Looking For Some Famicom Keycaps
« on: Fri, 16 April 2021, 11:39:32 »
Hi! First topic, not sure if I'm going about this right, but anyway-

I was wondering if anyone knows about-and if so, could point me towards-some keycaps that resemble the ones on the Famicom's Family BASIC Keyboard, or just have Famicom-themed colors in general. I love the original Fami's colors, and want to put that color scheme into my keycaps, but aside from a topic from 3 years ago, I can't find anything that matches.
Preferably, I'd like them to have normal alphas with hiragana sublegends, but I'll take normal keycaps with the right colors.
Nice.

Well, I knew the possibility was there, but I don't think I have the funds right now to do that sort of thing XD I had been hoping someone could point me toward some similar colors, and I could just mash those together on an old chassis I have.
Nice.

i do remember an IC for key-caps in this color scheme, but i can't remember if it went into GB or if it was canceled because of Nintendo and fear of litigation... and i can't remember the name, i even think it was a GMK set

Dang, that does look pretty good. Though, I did some searching of my own, and it looks like this keycap set works for the red: https://shop.tai-hao.com/products/abs-104-c01rd101

Now, all I need is something for the grey. Many don't realize, but the original keyboard only had a white/beige case. The caps were grey. I think I may have found a good fit in this set: https://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=2505

The good news is that they're both Tai Hao, which means the font size and style will most likely match. The bad news is, of course, my wallet XD I'll post back here when I get these two sets. to show if they really make an accurate recreation. Would be nice if Tai Hao offered a set with Hiragana, but oh well.
Nice.

yeah if you want the same color layout you may have to get creative yeah, and spherical tai-hao caps may be a lot closer in shape than GMK, good luck with it

This is only loosely related, but you may be interested in this artisan key i saw today. Game boy themed, and one or two of the color options would probably suit your board well. It's just too cute  :)

Oh I was just thinking about buying a set of uniform colored keycaps, custom design the caps with your vision of the famicom, and then make them with sublimation paper. It has some cost, but probably under the 200$ asked for a keycap set for something that will be unique !
