Okay, here's what were going to do about the teensy.
For people who have already submitted their order, I'm going to add the same number of controllers as the number of PCBs you put down. The controllers will be $18 for now, and I'll bump it down to $16 if we hit 100.
The low weight of these shouldn't add to shipping costs.
These will be the Teensy 2.0 controller with pin headers pre-soldered to them.
If you have a problem with this, or what a different amount of Teensys than number of PCBs you ordered PM me with changes and I'll make them.
Does anyone know what the total approx. cost ended up being for a complete Phantom board in round 1?

Since we are not doing any modifications to the board, it will basically be a copy of the old one, so it's not a second revision, just a rerun.
Finally, anyone knows where to get hold of cad files for the plates? Im interested in PHANSI150 and 7bit?

CAD files are available on DT. Let me see if I can pull down a link...Last time I remember these being overly expensive and not a bunch being made. Also I dont think he posted the actual files to be cut either otherwise i might look into it...

I like the thicker size of a real header pin, but as long as you know about it that's the important part.yes ive done both prefer the header pins myself but idk if bavman wants to do the extra work to include them

I'm likely going to get on this even though it will be my first soldering experience. The real question for me is the availability of other required components: cases, plates and keycaps for the round 1 special plates (7bit layout). If someone wants to help organize the rest (and if the orders for this round2 PCB aren't already indicating, less than a day in), I'd order more than 1.

Yea putting on keycaps are so overrated. If cherry wanted keycaps on mx switches they would already be on them.
hasu and Tranquilite (based on hasu's code) have programmable firmwares available for the Phantom, if I'm not mistaken. I think that is what TheProfosist uses for his custom layout (Tranquilite's).yes I use Tranquilite's for both my Phantom and HID Liberation Device. The top half is just to give an idea of how the layout actually looks, and is not actually used. What you want to edit is the lower half which contains the actual keymap. Do we have anyone setting up a plate GB? I think I could find such manufacturers in my area to serve those buying PCBs in this group buy (American made). Let me know if The Beast or anyone else is already working on plates now that this PCB GB is going.

That said, I do think that something like the Phantom does deserve something special to house it in. Certainly a stainless steel case would fill that role perfectly. It'd be very unique and overall a grand keyboard. Just a bit overpriced.

I think part of the reason cases cost so much is because they start off with 2 blocks of the desired metal (like aluminum) and a machine just takes off everything that's not needed. It seems a little inefficient since its wasting metal, and you're paying for it. I think if someone can come up with a good design from sheet metal it would probably be more affordable. I for one won't spend $200 or more on a metal case...it's just not within my budgetWow, constructing from block metal is a huge waste. From that perspective the huge final costs per case makes sense. I'm sure we can get around that.

I'd be down for a full aluminum cases and if priced not stupid I'd go for it, but with quantities we'll get + what people want to pay that is kind of hard. Installing the Teensy is the trickiest part. That's how I killed my Phantom PCB, and why I really wanted this Round 2 to get off the ground. The diodes are simply tedious, not difficult. The switches are probably the easiest part.

You know you need both. A TKL and a 60%. This GB will be done collecting payments about the time the GH60 GB opens, I would bet.

Tell your CO that the difference is that the Phantom has customizable layouts, for instance ANSI 87-key, ANSI 86-key with 1.50 mods, ISO 88-key, ISO 87-key 1.50, etc. Also, the firmware is programmable, so you can have different layers, etc. You can have keys around the cursor arrows, below the "six pack," and you can have a full function row with no gaps.

I'm not the biggest fan of the PLU-87 either. I would prefer something with no labeling, very clean looking. I do like the acrylic case that DanGWanG had, however I don't want something that shiny, attracts dust.you can remove the labeling or you can just use a filco case

The QFR cases are basically Filco cases except for the branding. I'm not sure about the availability, but some QFR have been shipping completely unbranded. That's probably your best bet for the cleanest case.i know WFD dragon says theyll fit but has anyone actually stuffed one in yet?

I don't know about the SS caseIf we ever go there I'd like to put a Phantom in my MKC case...
For me an Alu case plus a SS plate is already heavy enough, it feels solid and it doesn't move but it's still possible to reposition without a forklift.
If there is no plan for a custom case with Treble, Oneproduct, imsto or anyone willing to carry this on maybe we could adapt the design of the PCB/Plate to fit in a Vortex case?
It's pretty good overall, not so expensive and it is supposed to be available soon in different colours...

are you aware of any tutorial about adding a bluetooth module to the teensy board? I made a google search but I can't find a comprehensive guidei think you would have to redesign the teensy to make that work sadly

Also, everyone should get 5 extra teensys. You can never have too many of those.
Carter said a replacement cases can probably be purchased separately so mod and replacement case might save you from buying a $150 Filco to use the case.
Still working hard on getting the brandless topcovers. Finished packaging this week, and will be ordering soon.

Ok I just finished talking to bpiphany. All that needs to be done for compatibility with a CM quickfire case is to drill one hole in the PCB. It doesn't hit any switches or diodes, however the problem is that there are a few traces that run through that exact location. If a hole is drilled there, those few traces needs to be slightly rerouted. Rerouting is a large enough change to warrant prototyping again just to be safe, and this will delay the GB. So in the end, there won't be any changes to the PCB at all. In summary, the plate design itself is fully compatible with a CM case, but the PCB can't be a straight drop-in.
These pics shows what I'm talking about. The small red dot is what needs to be drilled out so the last standoff in the CM case can go through the PCB.

As someone who is trying to design his first PCB, what makes is so high quality :x
I really wish I knew how to design PCBs. I really liked teaching myself about ICs and logic gates and all that stuff but its all theoretical, I have no idea how to implement it into real work solutions. I don't even know what diodes/capacitors do :D
To the people asking about payments, I will close the order form in about 24 hours, after that I'll start sending invoices out, and I hope everyone will have paid theirs within 7 days of receiving it (preferably sooner). The google doc in post 2 isn't 100% up to date so if you pm'd me recently it might not be reflected there. I'll update it before invoices go out. Please make sure you double-check your order is correct so we can catch any mistakes that were made.

Side note: What size wire should I use to repair/replace PCB traces? I broke the internal USB connector off the back of my QFR PCB (Stupid one-sided nonsense!) and now I seed to solder new wires from the controller to it. Also, is stranded or solid core better for this sort of thing? Feel free to PM me so this doesn't get off track.Wire size that's 24AWG or finer. Either solid core or stranded should be ok. Stranded might be easier to work with, but if you have too much slack after soldering, it'll flop around in there so just make you don't have too much excess wire in there. Solid core will stay put even with a little bit of excess wire. I repaired a diode trace with solid core, haven't tried stranded yet.

What makes it special is whatever you want to be special about it. You put it in the case you want, give it what cable you want, put keys where you want them and make them do what you want, put what switches you want on it, decide if it's gonna be PCB or plate mounted. It's your keyboard, it's just as special as you are.
Not to mention it's pretty cool to be able to say that it's unbranded. Someones asks "What keyboard is that?" you answer "Mine." Each Phantom is completely unique. Though to be honest, most of us will probably be doing standard 87-key layouts. Myself included.
I'm going for an 86 key layout...preferably in an unbranded case. This has options. I'm also thinking about adding 5 macros above the arrow keys. Why I haven't seen anyone else think of this, I don't know, but having 5 macros that you can edit in the Teensy firmware is nice, and it saves space. If you're gonna have macros, might as well have them appeal to the aesthetic of the keyboard, right?

Just looked at the dt wiki. The 125 is the standard modifiers with the larger numpad right? Does that many of you not like 7bit modifier? I could see it being useful for gaming or macro keys? Is 7bit that bad?
What do want from the 7bit plate that PRF125 doesn't have? If you're going to say the bottom row, make sure you plan carefully and you really want it. I bought the original 7bit plate but couldn't find a use for it because of that bottom row. I have one, so I'll offer mine up for grabs when time comes for all the plate stuff.
Profosist didn't find it practical either, that's why that bottom row was modified to his own layout.

I'm with you on this. I'm also hoping to get a 7bit plate with my phantom. I see it being useful for gaming so I can get some modifier keys under my thumb. On a standard keyboard I can really only hit two keys (space and alt). Those extra keys that the 7bit layout gives you look like a great way to increase your options.
Of course I've never used this layout but I don't see the down side other than a smaller space bar.

And the current offerings of phansi150 and phiso150 plates support original cherry, correct?Yeah. they use the original 1.50x mods from days of yore, so they use the spacebar from days of yore (measuring 7x. make sure it's a 7x spacebar. Wish they made them in metal. great way to add to the look of an aluminum cased keyboard with red caps.)
All this talk of other layouts is making me want to use the full right hand column. Only thing stopping me is getting a good case that supports it and proper keys. Have some nice DS on the way so I wouldn't want to use WASD on the remaining 5.I know i'm using the full right column, but it's just adding a few programmable keys. If there was an extra row, then I would go numberpad, but there isn't. Plus I need my Insert/delete combo.

Filco, etc. use a standard 6.25-unit spacebar with a centered stem. Cherry 6.25-unit spacebars have an off-centered center stem, thus making them incompatible with "modern" keyboards. :)

Can I say I'm not a fan on the Lister case, I don't like acrylic that much (seems easy to scratch) and I don't like how the bolds aren't counterbored (which I doubt you could do with a acrylic that thin)HERESY!? I don't see why you can't not like something others don't. Fine by me.

Is the cost mostly in milling time/quantity or material I guess is what I'm asking.

It'll cost you anywhere from $200 - $350 for a metal CNC case. The Vortex aluminum case was dirt cheap for $150, and it was clear the quality reflected this. The cost of the actual material is not much, but the time required to program the CNC machine and cutting time on the machine is very expensive. Stainless steel would be very nice, but even less practical for your wallet.

What about 3d printing cases?That might work, though I would be concerned about the structural integrity of it and the strength of the material. If the material type can't handle being the lower receiver of an AR-15, then I'm not sure I really want a keyboard made out of it.

So, I haven't been following this at all really, is there going to be a new set of plates made?
The controllers will be $18 for now, and I'll bump it down to $16 if we hit 100.My invoice has the teensy for $17. I know it is only a couple of dollars, and if it is for the shipping only that is cool, but I don't think it will cost $180 to ship them all. $16 was the discounted price from pjrc, but i forgot to account for shipping when I had written that update a while agoSo how much does it cost to ship one box of 180 Teensies? Probably not $180. I figured you would have just baked the Teensy shipping price into the other shipping price.
I understand that and I'm not trying to make a big deal out of an ant hill. When a thread says one thing it needs to stick to it, or just change what it says, or make it clear where the discrepancy lies. If I just arbitrarily decided one extra dollar was ok to charge on almost everything in my Toxic group buy I could make hundreds of dollars easily, but that is not what group buys are about. Does anyone know where we can buy switches in bulk? Don't say 7bit because I already know that. He gets the switches somewhere so it might be more cost effective if we put in a large order for switches directly from a distributor. I'm stubborn, but I want greens. If you look at the Cherry MX Guide on Deskthority, they say that Whites are a soft click while Greens are a soft click.
Greens are very much a firm click. Supposedly either the material or leg length of the whites makes them different. But greens really just feel like blues with a black spring.

If all goes well and it doesn't take a while for me to receive the plates after they've been completed I can hopefully start shipping them out 2.5-3 weeks from now. I think your i key is having issues and your statement is hard to understand. From my further research it looks like I can get the stabilizers that are 2x in size from Mouser and WFD will also be offering 6.25x and 7x wires to allow me to use one of those 2x stabilizer sets for the spacebar by replacing the included wire with a longer one.

Yeah, there is a little bit of info in the thread. I believe he's just laying the PCB in the case. He talks about movement of the PCB in different areas and alludes that the weight of it all may be resting on the teensy. It seems like it is ripe for someone willing to do some modding.

Already got the teensy controllers. The other electronics will take less than a week to get to me from mouser. Not sure about the PCBs though. bpiphany has been the middle man between me and pcbwing, all I do is pay :) So I'm not sure how long till those reach me.
I've been talking to WhiteFireDragon and if you ordered a PCB from me and a plate from him, he'll be sending me your plates and I'm going to combine them and we'll save you guys some money rather than having to pay for 2 separate shipments. Were still working out the details on it but it looks like thats what were going to end up doing.

That thing is going to get in the middle. I would guess they can be delivered around two weeks after it ends.
Production time alone is 12 days. So in short, not a chance =) The progress bar on the order status page hasn't started moving yet. So I think nothing will happen until after the festivities.

#2 cannot be solved: it'd take out about 7 traces near the teensy if you drilled there. The solution is not just keep the case closed with the clips, which is more than good enough. That screw basically does nothing.
#1 can be solved by filing the PCB and relocating a trace or (preferably) sanding down the standoff. I haven't done this personally, as I run my phantom caseless (on cardboard), but it should be pretty easy and still secure.

The PCBs should be almost finished in production. I think they may still be lagging behind a bit from the long holidays they were on. I wish I could give an exact time, but I haven't asked, and I think that wouldn't make any difference anyway. Soon is the answer I have to offer =)

First of all I picked the 12 day production time, working days that is. The order was submitted January 31, and didn't make it before their new year. Second I guess they may still be swamped with work piled up during their festivities. I believe they are in the final steps of quality control by now. Hopefully I will get the mail with FedEx tracking info after the weekend. After that they will arrive quickly =)

LEDs are always polarized, just FYI. LED stands for light emitting diode, and diodes only permit current to flow one way. Nice blue switches though, CLICK CLICK CLICK!You can get bipolar LED's but this is usually done to get a different colour if the current is flowing in a different direction (and they are, therefore, more like 2 LEDs in one)

However, I regret to also say the PCB is quite bent :( what do I do? Can I simply bend it back gently? Leave it and just have it straighten out when I mount it? Or do I need to claim insurance?

No. WFD had the plates made, but had to wait on the "low-quantity" designs to be delivered from The_Beast. Then WFD is shipping ALL the plates to Bavman, to be shipped out with the PCB orders that had plates.
ANYONE who ordered a plate with their PCB should NOT have received anything, yet. Unless you made some special arrangements with Bavman and/or WFD.

Basically all but 1 US order is out, but only some internationals. I finally got the rest of the boxes to ship everything else so they should be going out sometime this week.

I have genuine concern for bavman and that the delays are part of something going wrong. Almost a month inactive. Only way to clear that up is for him to log in and say he is ok.

Probably a stupid question, but do Phantom PCBs fit under stock Filco plates at all in terms of switch alignment?

With the passing of a close family member and some financial issues (car gave out and I had to replace it) it been a little rough. I can proxy the boards as long as the shipping/packaging costs are covered. I can't afford to cover them myself.

The LEDs I got were ultrabright whites, and the resistors are only 55 ohms. Yes, 55! The LEDs are so bright they hurt. I basically means I can't use Caps Lock. I would have gone with 470ohm resistors.

I've been in contact with Bavman and I plan on making the trip to see him this weekend (10/05/2013) to pick up the remaining Phantom parts. I will try to post an updated spreadsheet for everyone to review and make sure the remaining orders are accurate. I would have traveled there sooner, but it's a 7 hour drive for me (round trip), so I can only travel there on the weekends. Also, I figured since I'm spending the money on gas I might as well make it a mini vacation, (i.e. LEGOLAND! (http://www.legolanddiscoverycenter.com/kansascity/))
Edit: And to be clear, I'm still not 100% sure about the shipping money. I may end up getting creative to try to raise funds to reimburse the total costs to complete this GB. I mean, it's great others are taking over but I feel everyone deserves an explanation, not someone else to silently clean up the mess.
I don't think it is Wildcard's place to explain why Bavman dropped the ball on this one. Nor is it Matt3o's place. Only Bavman can explain his actions (or inaction), and he doesn't seem willing to do that. All we can do at this point is to be grateful to those who have taken it upon themselves to step in and try to salvage what can be salvaged.

I picked up one large box from his father and some packaging materials. I'll be in Kansas City overnight and will try to do an inventory count before I head back to Omaha tomorrow. I'll be calling Bavman or stopping by his home before I leave to ask about the postage fees he collected. Communication wasn't that good towards delivery and there was around two months (I think) of no word at all. Then someone stepped in, drove the the previous members house and collected what hasn't been shipped and that's where we stand.

Ok, I think I see that now. He must have been crossing out metafour and he tacked on the extra orders including yours as a separate line (your on the list but all of your info is missing)
I'm still trying to figure out what to do about being short one order essentially, but I don't think that's directly related to your order. I'm hoping some orders were shipped but not marked.
Short Update. Bavman was initially stating that he had remaining shipping funds and items that he would transfer to me. This has not yet materialized. Shortly after my KC trip he also stopped answering phone calls and also stopped responding to my emails again. I know I've had a few people contact me directly about taking legal or criminal actions against him, but I believe we can resolve this without it coming to that.
Fortunately I was able to speak with his father who was the person who met me when I picked up the items at his home. I explained the situation and he reassured me that he would have a discussion with him and get back to me by Friday. I should have another update this weekend.

Wasn't WFD taking on some of the orders from TP? This could be what he's referring too. But I have no idea other then that. My feeling is that, if you want your stuff, you're going to have to pay Wildcard for shipping. It sucks, but Bavman probably blew the money like a jerk, and doesn't have it to give to Wildcard. So you can either pay Wildcard the shipping for him to send your stuff to you, or just let it sit at Wildcard's place. He was nice enough to go get the goods from a guy who was unresponsive, but you shouldn't expect him to foot the bill for shipping everything out.

I'll clarify a few things. I made a very large shipment to bavman, which wildcard now has. However, I never sent Prof ANYTHING because first of all he never paid what he owes me on many things, and second, with all the BS coming out of this mouth, I knew he would never send it out when requested. I completely took over for the people from Prof's group. Check THIS SPREADSHEET (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AraAg2A1x5csdHlwNWpJSnl0OFAyZHdzMVA5TWg2UkE&usp=drive_web#gid=2) to know if I have your plate/PCB, or if wildcard has them.
I sent out packages from Prof's group and almost everyone from my group already. But what's holding up the remaining shipment or assembly service is that I do not have the switches that you ordered from Prof. He was suppose to send me a large package with everyone's stuff, but we all know how much of an asshat he is about shipping stuff out. At this point, if you want to cut your loses with the parts and assembly service that you already paid, I'll send out the plate/PCB that I have. Just shoot me a PM.
As for shipping costs, I'll have to go with what JD just mentioned. I never got reimbursed for all the shipping cost for the orders I already sent out, so if you want your stuff, you'll have to pay me or wildcard for shipping. I don't mind covering if it's only a few people, but for a whole GB, it adds up. I already took a hit on the plates and some of the shipping.

Got my plate a few days ago and finally able to put the rest of my phantom paraphernalia to use. Even though the plate has been around, probably in multiple people's closets/basements, multiple shipping trucks, etc, it came perfectly intact, not bent or damaged at all. Regarding international orders, I'm going to get my butt in gear and come to a decision on how to handle them. If people are fine with their items shipping without a tracing number, I will most likely ship via the US postal service. But this is still TBD.Is it much more expensive to send them with a tracking number through USPS? I'd prefer to have it. I trust you Wildcard, but I don't trust my mailman.

Good to know. I recall when I was in the post office they provided a number but I'm pretty sure it doesn't track the package through its complete transit in the same way UPS does. It will provide a shipping confirmation. Shipping to Canada was around $18, ouch.

dude wildcard you look like you are shipping that stuff proper. I lost the picture of how bavman shipped my phantom order but it was horrible, no padding just pcbs sandwiched in plates in envelope and it was bent. but I guess I was lucky to just get my phantom from bav at all.
