After a failed attempt at painting my QFR without first sanding down the rubber coating I decided to do things properly.
I sanded the hell out of it and painted it with car grade 2 component paint using a paint sprayer. Well, my friend did it since I suck at getting even coats.
A tip to others eager to paint their QFR's - Don't take any shortcuts. Sand the rubber coating off properly and use high quality paints with hardeners in them for a lasting paint job.
And regarding the pictures... The camera is of high quality, I'm the potato.

Probably that shade of gray, plus the legends gives a bit of a clue.

I didn't realize they were from WASD keyboards. They look great! I also like that the function row is completely dark grey.

Yep, got them from WASD! I like that you can customize and get your own color scheme. Downside is that it's in the US and well, you're from Sweden aswell so you know how annoying taxes and customs can be :)

OP, aren't you worried about the ABS keycaps from WASD Keyboards? From other reviews I've seen that they're pretty thin.

I imagine the keycaps are temporary, and will be swapped out in a few weeks anyway.
Everyone swaps their keycaps every few weeks, right?
Or is it just me? :p

Naah, I mean. They are thin. Thinner than I expected, but I was very specific with the colors I wanted and ordering a custom set from WASD was the only way to go.
I'll probably try to sell them off in the classifieds to make room for other goodies :)

You are correct Sir! I just recently joined geekhack and money will be spent on different group buys in the near future.
The problem is that I'll have more key cap sets than boards, so I'll have to buy more boards. Simple logic :)

I'm might just have screwed up the actual keycaps though.
You can thank nubbinator for selling me that idye poly and letting me go wild with it.
For you guys that want to try and dye your keycaps, make sure they are made of pbt :)
I should post pictures of the failure and success! Might do that soonish.

Nobody ever said "I learned that the easy way." Mistakes help us become better people. Learn a lesson and move on to the next project. Or use it to teach others what to avoid! Either way, you're a little bit better than you were yesterday.

I love it! Something about white keyboards that has always appealed to me... I thought about painting my QFR case but the thought of sanding down the rubber coating has been a deterrant. Do you have any tips? Great job!

Thank you all for the feedback. I can say that the paint job is holding up nicely. I really recommend a 2 component paint or some paint with a hardening agent.

Of course a retrochick likes something retro-inspired! Im sorry to say that the rubber needs to go and I have no tips other that the fact that you can start with a high grit sandpaper to get it off, and then go over with a fine grit paper to get the plastic smooth.

That white looks nice. I am painting my cover now and because I bought the wrong shade of blue I think I will have to settle with matte white
