Title: Is Glorious Model O really the finalmouse killer?
Post by: Sintpinty on Sat, 04 May 2019, 18:56:48
There has been many hype about the Glorious Model O, from Glorious Gaming Race. It's the first mice they've ever designed. They wanted to make a light mouse that is affordable unlike the finalmice which are very difficult to find.

Is this possibly going to be an equivalent to fight the king of light mice?

All that honeycomb is going to be DISGUSTING in short time and it will be a pain in the neck to clean out and it all l leads right down to the switches and electronics.

I'm not saying it's a bad mouse and I'm trying real hard not to just tear it down for some of the silly claims (like the "state of the art Omrons") but that honeycomb is a disaster waiting to happen.

All my cheetos dust will get into the mouse..

I wonder why they don't coat the inside with a layer of paint or something, that would help.

But as is, it's theoretically possible , that a wet sneeze could kill the mouse

definitely, just for the price and availability if nothing else. it's also supposed to come with rounded pure pfte skates and a shoelace cable so that you don't really have to mod the mouse in any way. I preordered one, am excite

Wow it is like they aimed the design at gathering the owners expelled DNA.

It's just a gimmick. Total bull****.

I think that if they instead have chosen to do a closed continuous surface, they could have made it thinner at the same weight and it would have held up just as well: like an egg-shell, its curvature would have kept it strong by distributing the load evenly.
The lattice is not even even, following its curvature: it is instead as if it was laser-cut away from above.
I can also see some internal structure underneath the lattice that is at least as much plastic as what they have "removed".

If you want to save weight, you could omit the unnecessary side LEDs and light guide.
If you want more accuracy, move the sensor forward 1/4" to move it between the fingers and more aligned with the mouse's centre of gravity.

I agree that the honeycomb design is a bit ugly, it does feel really nice. Combined with a rubbery texture it gives a nice grip.
The Glorious guys do make some nice products, so I'm interested to see what the reviews say about the Model O :D

I know, i can imagine the pain of getting Monster in your mouse and not being able to clean it out D:
But hey, at least it makes it lighter, which is a problem that i have with most mice because i have to speed up or to slow down to click the target.

20 million clicks and 3360, $49,$59 what is so special about this besides it it lite? I would take a Logitech over this any day. Plus how sloppy I am it will be fattened up in no time. Also there will be new sensors. There is already 3389 and this is 3360. I don't get it.

Not nearly as much as you think.
I'd be shocked if they save much more than a single gram and that gram is going to disappear within a few weeks just from the gunk that this thing collects.

Want to save actual weight?
Reduce the number of screws used to assemble it, use lighter weight switches, a thinner pcb, or how about just less RGB. This means less wires, less pcb, less screws...You can't even see much of the RGB when in use.

I'm not against trying new things.

But, the g100s from my sig is already 68.8 grams.

It doesn't have a 3360, but Lightness isn't the end all. and it doesn't NEED honey comb to get there.

How much does it actually weigh? I think I would prefer the G-Pro. Well, I prefer anything by Logitech. As mentioned all the gunk is just going to get into it.

Matte models are 67 grams, and glossy are 68

I love how it's reached the point where a single gram needs to be specified...

For those who don't understand, here are some things that weigh one gram.
A pinch of salt
A pen cap
A thumbtack
A dollar bill

If one gram in your hand effects your gaming, you need to stop playing games and pick up a set of weights, though in this case making a salt shaker might be more appropriate starting point.

Mm... well.. 1 g may not be alot to lift. Momentum Change is where the small amount of weight makes a large difference.  If you're swiping 2 diff mouse really fast,  even with 5 grams , it will feel quite different.
Title: Re: Is Glorious Model O really the finalmouse killer?
Post by: Leslieann on Tue, 21 May 2019, 04:41:01
It's 1/67th the the weight of the mouse, in many things you need a 10% difference to notice a difference in something. So yes, you could possibly notice 5 grams or more difference, but I highly, HIGLY doubt you can feel a single gram.

If you like weight saving's that's fine, but like I said before, you could shave more getting rid of a screw, a pcb, or the RGB which would eliminate almost all those things and possibly a processor. I would bet you could shave 5-10grams or more by shedding the RGB.

Are those still a thing?

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong.

I have a Finalmouse Ultralight which is essentially the same mouse. I've used it for over a year with at least two hours per day of use. I took it apart a month ago to replace the cable, and noticed no dust or grime on the inside. I thought it would attract a ton of debris but it doesn't.

Glad to see there is some competition with Finalmouse as I had to pay a bit for it, but it is hands down the best computer peripheral purchase I've ever made (other than my 910, ofc). I recommend this type of mouse to anyone who plays FPS games.

That's anecdotal and from a single sample size.
All you have to do is tip over a few keyboards to know it's going to happen.

Well I will see shortly. I just got my Model O. Seems super nice, going to be coming to this from the Zowie FK1. Used the EC-1A before that, and the G502. The FK1 made the G502 feel super heavy (even with no weights in it), and the Model O makes the FK1 seem heavy. Quite the experience. I don't really see the mouse getting super dirty though. If the holes were on the sides of the mouse maybe, but they are just on the top and bottom. Dust will get in it for sure, but nothing canned air cant get.

Skin flakes and oil from your hand is another issue. humans are actually actively shedding. it's just not typically visible except on black people where the contrast brings it out.

Matte black. I hate glossy mice. My Zowie sides were starting to shine and get slick which I hated. The texture is nice on the model O. Not too rough but certainly not smooth.

I'm well aware, my keyboards I use for gaming it is especially noticeable around the WASD, Tab, Ctrl keys. But still not that big of an issue if you just wipe down your keyboard/mouse every now and then.

Just saw this fad flood /r/mousereview and feel.. well I'm not sure. It's nice-ish, but agree on the skin flakes and 'cruft' build up that others have mentioned.

Honestly I'd like to see the market more lean in on customization in other ways than fashion keebs/mice. Like, maybe configurable scroll wheels, or more hotswap options like the Gladius 2 I picked up. I like the lightweight trend, just think it's somewhat too laser-focused atm.

My point is simply that they DO NOT need the open hexagons to reach 68g.

The Logitech g100s is 68g with the metal ballast removed, and it's fully covered.

So really, the hexagon is a gimmick, with no real benefit.

I don't mind it as an aesthetic choice, but they haven't properly engineered the design to compensate for stuff falling into the mouse.

Simple design modifications such as acrylic coating the pcbtop, or adding a wax paper film above it,

It would add less than .1 gram.

The honeycomb kills it for me. The G Pro Wireless is light enough and is enclosed to keep out all the dust an skin flakes. The price is one of the big things for the Model O. I am personally waiting for the next revision of the FK2.

Those are the same people that use the configs/settings of their favorite players, buy the peripherals of their favorite players, etc

Having nice peripherals undoubtedly does help but only to an extent, but so many people are in denial about their abilities thinking their gear is what is holding them back. I personally have never understood it. There is no shortcut to getting good at a game.

I will say though at least for me, finding the RIGHT mouse is important. My hands are HUGE and most mice I have found out there are incredibly difficult to comfortably play with for any extended period of time and can definitely impact how I play.

On a random side note but somewhat related it just comes back to people thinking mechanical ability is what makes them a good player. I have found so many people who have ungodly aim and 1v1 abilities in csgo (on 1v1/ffa/pistol servers) but they are gold nova/MG because at the end of the day they have no idea how to actually play the game.

It's something they can "fix" by throwing a few dollars at it.
Screens are expensive, cpus, gpus and ram are expensive, skill takes time and (at least to reach the top) natural ability, but a mouse is something well within reach that they have been told can give them an edge (thanks to marketing).

Honestly I dont hope it "kills" the final mouse, rather that if forces final mouse to address the issue with keeping their products in stock. At least for me the waiting around to see what the next drop of the same mouse and then having to make a rushed decision to buy it or not got old real quick.

I wouldn't worry about it going away, at least not how you think.

It's a white label product from a Chinese company, my guess is Final Mouse paid for the initial R&D and then after a specified amount of time the manufacturer put it in their catalog (a common thing to do). GMO is basically just revision 3 of Final Mouse with some RGB added to make it different. Same manufacturer, same internal design, same construction methods, right down to the uncommon switch choices (Omron clones for all but the main switches).

To me, the most important things in a mouse are shape and size. Almost every mouse it either too small or forces my pinky finger into some weird position that hurts after a few minutes. The only mouse I've found that is truly comfortable is the EC-1B. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's slippery.

The shape of the Model O looks promising, and the length looks good, but the width is probably too small for me. I'd like to give it a try, but I already have to many pointing devices.

Really, I can't appreciate the open case. The board needs some kind of coating so you could at least spray some cleaner in there
