[GB] SA Retro [Closed]
« on: Tue, 05 May 2015, 17:04:26 »

The successor of DSA Retro is finally here! Always lovingly designed by Matt3o (me), this time proudly powered by CTRLALT.io.

The keyset is of course in SA Profile, sculpted with the following row profile:

ROW 1 - Function keys
ROW 1 - Number row
ROW 2 - QWERTY row
ROW 3 - ASDFG row
ROW 4 - ZXCVB row (with the exception of SHIFT keys that are row 3)
ROW 4 - Modifier row

Unfortunately I don't have a picture of the final product but we got plenty in DSA fragrance to evaluate the color combo.

This one is full brown (True retro) REMEMBER THESE ARE DSA, the GB is for SA!

.
This is with burgundy

.
.
As I said the group buy is handled by the mighty guys at CTRLALT.io so you can expect this to be a pro and smooth buy as BunnyLake has spoiled us with :)

If you had enough of my blabbing go directly to the...

Order form

Just to wet your appetite these are the two main kits. Just $80 for a hell lot of keys!

True retro

Burgundy

There are 17 kits to choose from to dress up a wide range of keyboards! Be sure to grab everything you need. If in doubt, or you don't know if your keyboard is supported, just ask.

Although profetionally managed this is still a "community" project, the "fixed price" model Bunny has in place is straight forward for the buyer but still very risky. Some of the kits that have been asked in the IC phase need really a lot of love (such as the intl kits, dvorak, apple, ...).

Good hunting!

Order form

Payment
CTRLALT accepts creadit card payment via Stripe. But you can also pay by Paypal.

To pay with paypal: place your order and do not pay. Send your order number and your paypal email to ctrlalt from the contact form https://ctrlalt.io/contact . All done

Getting that all too familiar feeling when it comes to getting involved with another Matt3o's Special Key-set   8) .

I don't know why Italians get me so worked up into a frenzy when it comes to their designs.......

20 days left to place an order, hence this baby is going in fast  :o .

Yes, but with addons, this one gets very expensive very fast. (And thanx, Matt3o for the stepped caps - didn't see them in the IC layouts.)

It's always been that way,  addons are not cheap PLUS certain people don't want to pay extra for a couple of keys they might not need so CTRL/ALT made sure you get maximum benefit for the STANDARD TKL layout.

They should be all off-center (have to check but I'm not sure SP has center-stemmed stepped key in SA)

not a kinesis advantage expert, what's the size of the side keys? 1.5 or 1.25? can't tell from the pictures. If they are 1.5 (as I suspect) you probably just need the base+ergodox kits.

PS: Does SA work on the kinesis?

there are 8x (23 mm width) 1.25 .. with 1.5 id need to dremel around .. not a huge problem .. but still id be great if i could avoid it .. right now is the time to think about the advantage as well .. (there is a current massdrop)

it actually looks fantastic in SA :)

unfortunately nobody chimed in during the interest check and asked for additional 1.25 keys. There should be enough 1.25 to cover the whole keyboard but definitely not on the right row.

There are 11 1.25x size keys in the main set, but they're all Row 4. Still, as long as the main key areas have the right profile, it may be okay to use them, but they may feel a bit odd. An option is to invert the upper caps, so you have something like 2-2-4-4 where the main area is 1-2-3-4-(4). I don't think you can just dremel around the 1.5x caps, since they will impact both the case AND the other keycaps, so you'd have to dremel the caps themselves (I don't see it being an easy task to move the switches further out, considering they're soldered to a flexible PCB).

You'll still need the Ergodox kit for the vertical 2x thumb keys, though.

Absolutely top notch job on the design and kits, Matt3o! It's looking awesome! The only thing I have to decide now is... one set or two? For the real classics I tend to get two (one for posterity and one for use) and this definitely qualifies, but my wallet is thin this month... I know I'll probably just get two anyway, though. ;)
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

...Some of the kits that have been asked in the IC phase need really a lot of love (such as the intl kits, dvorak, apple, ...).

Hopefully the combined layout package will up the chances for it to tip. Even though all I need is the colemak caps, I'm very pleased with your decision of a combined kit.
Will you provide status here whether kit got the love it deserves or not?

God I'm looking forward to test this profile.

Order:
2xBurgundy Base
2xErgoDox
4xBlanks (I'll let you know how the R1s work in the top of the thumb cluster.)
2xDvorak/Colemak (Let me know if this one is looking like it will cause you pain, we can probably work something out.)

Very nice!

You must do the the PETSCII kit!  That would make this the ultimate C64 set.  I WILL order that.

In your mockup, I think that your £ has an incorrect glyph:

The rest look correct.  If I were to nitpick, perhaps the quarter circles on your U, I, J, K should be a bit smaller.  They should line up with the middle of each side.

Perhaps a "RESTORE" key for that set?  In either 2.0u (in place of backspace) or (my preference) 1.5u (in place of PIPE) and having it in the original location?  Who doesn't remember hitting RUN STOP + RESTORE?!

I have not ordered yet.  You need moar orders, I will happily get on that ASAP to help show support for this set (with or without PETSCII I'm getting it).  But, can I then go back later and add the PETSCII kit to my order (and not pay double shipping?)

Thanks,
Rick

I have a reference picture that is actually different... I have to dig deeper into this. Probably there are two (or maybe more) versions.

EDIT: I uploaded the wrong image :D

"Restore" will be also included in 1.5u.

PS: You can add kits to the order at any time.

Originally the plan was to make it R3, but the hordes attacked and forced me to make it R1. In R1 it is definitely easier to reach.

Is the R4 Control key meant to be R3 in the Pro Mods set? Or.. if not, is there an option for switching Shift Lock for Control in this set?

Also - is the 7u spacebar R3 or R4?

Is the R4 Control key meant to be R3 in the Pro Mods set? Or.. if not, is there an option for switching Shift Lock for Control in this set?

Also - is the 7u spacebar R3 or R4?

there should have been both, that is an error by my part. I'll do my best to include the R3 control.

All spacebars are R3.
