Awesome news, Alps fans. Thanks to a big order from a reseller, we're all set to tip the 100 MOQ!

I can't give any details at this time (per the reseller's request), but the order is for 15 sets, which as of this writing puts us at 105 base kits sold!

I'll be updating the order form shortly, but rest assured this is a committed order.

We did it, guys! 100 Alps keycap sets! Woohoo!!!

No waaaaay! Thanks reseller dude!

Speculate away. I guarantee nobody will guess.

BTW I won't comment any further, since it's simply not my place to disclose anything.

I'd totally go for the Monarch, but I've got a lot invested in another Alps build that unfortunately isn't compatible with the components of the Alps Party GB, so it's something I'm sinking a lot of funds into. :C

Excellent news about the MOQ!!  :D  I wasn't particularly looking forward to the price at the lower MOQs, despite still being committed ( :thumb: ), so this is very welcome news.  :)

Also, moar Alps for everyone!  Yeeeeeee!

Indeed. Although many of us who were committed are both the lower and higher tiers, are now officially spending more.

I was on the fence about whether to announce this at this point. Part of me really wanted to see whether this buy would tip 100 apart from the large order, and I didn't want the announcement to influence that. But I could tell a lot of folks were getting antsy so it just seemed like the right thing to do.

Agreed. I'm personally eager to see some folks get creative with the blanks offerings. I worked out an ErgoDox layout for someone based on what's already available, but I'm not sure about the best row profiles to use for some of the weird keys:

http://www.keyboard-layout-editor.com/#/gists/a1e7c87848951f52ec00

Any ErgoDox users want to chime in? Specifically, I'm wondering which profiles to use for the vertical 1.5U keys along the centers, and for the keys in the thumb clusters. The only 2U option for Alpine Winter is R4 Gray, so that decision is made for us.

You can make something like this:

Alpine winter set +
8 TGL R1 blanks + 5 BGA R1 blanks (for function keys) +
3 BGA R1 blanks + 3 TGL R1 blanks + 3 TGL R2 blanks + 1 BGA R4 blank + 3 BGA R4 blanks (for the TKL part) +
4 TGL R1 blanks (extra multimedia keys) +
4 BGA R1 blanks + 3 TGL R2 blanks + 3 TGL R3 blanks + 3 TGL R4 blanks + 1 TGL R4 blank + 3 2u TGL R4 blanks (for numpad)

TOTAL: alpine winter +
15 TGL R1 blanks +
12 BGA R1 blanks +
6 TGL R2 blanks +
3 TGL R3 blanks +
4 BGA R4 blanks +
4 TGL R4 blanks +
2 2u TGL R4 blanks.

The plus key on numpad will be wrong profile :( But I guess you can split the plus key in two 1u keys.

Here's the keyboard layout editor link

Doors! My dog is now old enough to have stopped scratching them when he wants to go outside, now he just stands in front of me and looks at me until I get the hint. But the doors look awful, so I had to paint the worst of them.

Quick update on blanks: I've stopped offering 1.25U blanks in rows 1-3 due to lack of interest. Row 4 1.25U blanks are still available in both blue and gray. At this point it's clear that rows 1-3 aren't moving, and I'd rather the order form was that much simpler.

Just in case anyone's wondering about the blanks and their individual MOQs, there's nothing to worry about. I'll be working with SP to make sure all the blanks get made. So if you're on the fence about blanks because you're worried about a certain cap not reaching MOQ, rest assured that you will get all your blanks.

Excellent time to make a change! If it wasn't for some important Visual Studio shortcuts (Shft+F11, Ctrl+Shft+F10, for example) I would use 60% keyboards 100% of the time.

Status update: 124 orders.

We're in the final stretch! Saturday is the last day to get your order in.

We've got a really good response on some of the blank cap sizes. I never bothered to get pricing for multiple MOQs, so I'm going to total up what we have and send it over to SP to see if we can't get some better pricing on blanks. I'm going to do the same for the spacebars and novelty packs. Hopefully we can all save a few bucks. I'll keep you posted.

A word about invoicing. Because of the recent PayPal lockdown garbage, I'm not even going to try to mess with that. I will be issuing invoices directly. You will have the option to pay via PayPal or directly with a credit card. I personally don't care which you choose. The fees are very similar on my end. The important part is that PayPal won't be holding onto the money this way, so they can't pull any of their gestapo moves. The invoices will be generated using FreshBooks and credit card payments will be processed by Stripe, so your financial info is totally secure.

Full disclosure: by issuing invoices this way, you will not be able to count on PayPal's buyer protection facilities. In fact, that's the very thing we're trying to avoid here. So if you really don't trust me, it won't hurt my feelings if you insist on a PayPal invoice (as long as not everybody does this). Just shoot me a PM by the end of the day Saturday.

If you're not familiar with the PayPal lockdown issues I'm referring to, see here and here. Basically, PayPal seemingly arbitrarily decides when you've collected too much money, then they lock down your account until tracking notices are issued. Trouble is, Signature Plastics won't even start on an order until it's paid up, and I can't float over $10K for six weeks while Signature Plastics produces the caps. And so there we are.

Fantastic news! But we can do better! Let's keep this ALPS party going!

I like you ergodox solution - I assume the light blue keys are ones that haven't tipped?
I'd really like to cover my ergodox so I'm willing to make compromises like duplicating rows on the 1.5u keys where I have to.
Did you calculate the cost of your mock-up there?

Light blue are just "ghosted" because the base kit already provides suitable keys for those spots. But if you want a consistent look you can get blanks all around. The 1.5U blue keys are available in all four rows, as are the 1U keys.

If you go by my mockup, you'll need a base kit and a novelty pack. Then (12) 1U blanks, (9) 1.5U blanks, and (4) 2U blanks.

12 * $0.73 + 9 * 1.49 + 4 * 2.47 = $32.05, or more if you want extra blanks for ghosted spots.

Feel free to shoot me a PM if you want help ordering.

Just to be clear, you can still pay via PayPal when I invoice you. The only difference is I'm not invoicing through PayPal, so they can't freeze my funds.

...and that's a wrap! Orders are now closed.

Status update: 130 base kits ordered, well above the 100 MOQ. All add-ons are tipped with the exception of a handful of blanks sizes, but as I've stated in the past I will make sure all the blanks get made.

This is where the really hard part begins.

I have an email in to SP with a request for some updated pricing based on some higher than expected MOQs. I'm hoping we can all save a few bucks on some of the add-ons. Tomorrow I will be focusing on some invoice prep work (turning all this spreadsheet data into something useful for invoicing) while I await an answer back from SP. Expect invoices to show up in your email inboxes by Tuesday. Ideally, I'd like to collect payment as quickly as possible, so please let me know if you won't be able to pay within a week.

Finally, I'm super encouraged by the response to this buy. I want to thank everyone who's joined, and another special thanks to everyone who has contributed in some way (see the acknowledgements in the OP). Alpine Winter is going to be something really special and we couldn't have made it happen without all of your help.

This has been an awesome group buy. From the interest check where we started from an ugly purple and orange mockup (no offense njbair) to E3E casually suggesting his blue and white/gray color scheme; and geniekid, the name Alpine Winter is genius. Oh and don't forget the one that suggested to use nubbinator's Alps legend  ;). I think what made this GB great was all the feedback you took into consideration like legend colors, fn keys, and even 2u blanks! So really, thanks for coordinating this GB. I'm sure it took a lot of work up to this point and there is still a lot of work ahead so I really appreciate it!  ;D
