so if all keys are row 3 profile we would order the base and the set that has the 1.75 shift and would not run into profiles issues (print, scroll and pause) with an 1800?

the orange contrast set is pretty awesome

I see that the base set has a spacebar in it, but then the universal 6.25 spacebar is listed as separate. What is the spacebar that comes in the base set?

It would be the same.

A lot of people prefer to have a spare space bar or two as that is the key that tends to show shine the most.

Nope, not yet.

Bugger. Any idea when SP thinks they'll actually go live with this?

That's the Geekhack spirit, you can never have enough keyboards in your possession  :thumb: .  Always in Group Buys you have to buy at least another couple of keyboards to furnish them with your latest key-set purchase(s).

I emailed SP about website issues when trying to order Royal Apollo yesterday, and also asked when Nuclear Data SA would be available.

According to the helpful chaps and chapettes at Signature Plastics, Royal Apollo DSA is up now (bought) and Nuclear Data SA goes live on Monday the 11th of this month.

Sweet.

love the "all row 3" on this and offering blanks and alt deepdish, you are a hero to ergodox and odd layout people

I told myself i wasnt going to do ABS anymore but they would look awesome on my metal dox and if they go shiny they will essentially go with the theme of nuclear :D

To me it almost seems a given that all SA sets should be shiny!

I seem to recall similar profile sets on olden terminals were all shiny.

..... and if they go shiny they will essentially go with the theme of nuclear :D

That raises a question.

I'm typing this on Calm Depths SA; apologies for my ignorance, but:
1. Is Calm Depths ABS? (I assume so)
2. Out of the box, is Calm Depths semi-matte, gloss, semi-gloss, shiny, or some other designation of finish that I'm not aware of? (Looks semi-gloss to me)

I quite like how Calm Depths looks after a month or so; shiny in a very good way. I wonder if that's how Nuclear Data will go?

I think I'm going to make a keyboard with this set for my dad. He served on a nuke sub and is currently an engineer at WCNOC "Wolf Creek Nuclear Operating Corporation" He will at least get a kick out of it.

P.S. I have webbed toes, I wonder if that had something to do with it?

<zork>

> Where am I?
You are in a keyboard forum.  You hear the sound of thread trimming in the background.

>Talk about keyboards.
You are talking about keyboards and keyboard-related things again.

</zork>

Back to keycaps...

All the other SP profiles are MATTE finish.

http://keycapsdirect.com/key-caps.php

This set will be SEMI-MATTE, so more glossy than all the other DSA and DCS sets.  Full gloss is only available on SA keycaps, and only on some keys.  Specifically the keys that were (I am guessing here) actually made for those old terminals.

So you should consider this set MORE GLOSSY than normal SP keycaps.

Also, with rare exception, all double-shot keycaps are ABS.  SA keycaps are thicker than most, so that is nice.

They've been doing it for ~18 months or so now...

They have said that due to the shrinkage rate of the PBT, doing an entire set would be impractical and extremely cost prohibitive. So basically SP will do double shot PBT novelty caps and that's it.

You could get IBM keyboards for terminals (in the 1970's) with textured or smooth keycaps. I have a few honeywell terminal keyboards from the mid 1970's with textured keycaps as well.

I'm curious, would the SP deep dish SA caps be a closer match to the shape of the old school terminal keycaps than just the regular SA sphericals?

it would depend heavily on which old school terminal you mean; I think the normal-dish SA caps are closest to the actual nuclear data ones.

Good point. I was thinking back to some of the pictures of the old honeywell hall effect keyboards, not the one this keyset was modeled on.

any chance of a Matteo style mock up? pretty sure though this is going to look good, especially on metal cases.

I was hoping to be the first order, but it looks like I was 2nd overall. LOL!

I did get in first on the Specialty Kit and the 9-Key Winkeyless Kit though  :thumb:

No I have learned it is better for me to wait for a few orders to go through on PMK buys....I always seem to have login troubles.

Note:  The set is up, but it is missing the Radioactive Kit on the live site.   I have contacted SP to investigate and rectify this problem.

Seems like they have it setup as a separate buy?

Welp.  Bought one of everything.

Not quite.  I just requested a last-minute addition of extra numpad kits for people who want to make the top row all numbers or use it for a programmable number pad.

I'm curious, would the SP deep dish SA caps be a closer match to the shape of the old school terminal keycaps than just the regular SA sphericals?

it would depend heavily on which old school terminal you mean; I think the normal-dish SA caps are closest to the actual nuclear data ones.
http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=36435.msg684704#msg684704

Good point. I was thinking back to some of the pictures of the old honeywell hall effect keyboards, not the one this keyset was modeled on.

Since I have both (thanks to bunnylake's penumbra keycap groupbuy) I did some head-to-head comparison. Keep in mind that Honeywell produced both flat profile and sculpted keycaps and they changed their moulds sometime in the early 1980's. The "normal" SP SA-profile keycaps are almost exactly like the honeywell ones.

This picture shows 789 beige from honweywell terminal (1977) 789 yellow from penumbra and a "deep-dish" 5 keycap also from that set. Everything is flat profile.

As you can see, the profiles are very similar in size, shape, and curvature to the "normal" SA keycaps. Note the honeywell caps are textured. I didn't feel like digging out my smooth ones (so there!).
Even the font looks pretty close to me. (some obvious differences of course.)

Now it's a race to make $60 before the buy ends!

Samwise, what happened to the Radioactive Kit?   Was there not enough interest?

Oops, sorry.  Missed your post on this.

So is the radioactive kit meant to only be available for a few hours?

Beyond the ISO kit?  If so, sorry about that.  Maybe if there is ever a round 2.

No, I did (or have them in my cart.)  I am going to have some chopped and stretched into a 10x spacebar for maximum old-skoolness!

To everyone else, the Numpad Kit is now up, and I have re-submitted the Radioactive Kit as a longer-lasting child.  Hopefully you will see that soon.

Well the I bought the radioactive kit when it was a separate buy. Does my order still count? Because the new child buy doesn't show anyone has purchased it yet. I also have an authorization of 12.10 in my bank statement.

Edit: for those who ordered it when it was a separate buy, have to reorder it. I think only 6 people were in it anyways.

Ok, everything is up now, and all children are listed as children.

I have no idea about any Radioactive Kits ordered when they were separate; I will check and see what can be done.  My guess is we will have to delete and re-order.

Also, I have no idea how to reply to PMK messages, so post here or PM me here with questions!

Thanks much,
