Torgee:  Nothing has been ordered yet.  You can think of the deadline as scare tactic to get people to confess their true desires :)

Seriously though, I'd like to have everything payed for by Monday.  So only one white for you then?

By samples you could mean two things:

Color samples: Yep, I got them a few days after they sent them.  GAW was the best match for grey... it looks almost identical other than the texture (which is a little more grainy).

EDIT: Picture!

[ Attachment Invalid Or Does Not Exist ] 25147[/ATTACH]

Prototype key:  This is a $65 key that will be sent out before the rest.  This is so I can see exactly how their machine works and also compare my thickness values to the Cherry ones.  This will be the right shift key (it has all 3 line weights that I've submitted to them) and I'll be more than happy to take pictures when I get it.  This isn't an out-of-pocket expense of course, I factored it into the overall cost of all of this.

Part of my diabolical raising-of-the-shipping costs has allowed us to fall under 100.  These types of things are better unknown though.

I'm also willing to pay a little more for my sets... not thrilled about that.  Not for us to worry about yet though!

100 isn't the magic number of sets, the prices are tapered all the way down.  Well, almost.

I paid my $25 for my black. They better be perfect for costing 1/3 of a 99hk official cherry 104 set. That's 3.5x as much per key. I still can't wait... forever is taking ****ing forever... And GB4 is in the next universe after this one implodes... But at least I'll get this before then... hopefully...I guess...

Yeah, I was thinking this the other day.  Factoring in that 99hk's sets are brand new and only missing spacebar and caps lock, $80 isn't as crazy as it seems at first.

Hum, I kind of disagree.  Raising the price may have scared off some people and made some of them lowered the number of sets they order.  That becomes a self-fulling prophecy.  I would like to see a total count of how many paid and unpaid sets as of now and see how far we are from 100 sets.  And if we are within reach to 100 sets, we should wait a bit so we can the discount at 100+.

Litster:  Well, I've given a lot of thought to how I can do this if you can believe it.  Originally I thought we'd get almost as much additional orders as we'd lose them.  This turned out to not be true.

Do I start this new thread and give an exact price breakdown for each quantity?  Will this give unrealistic expectations as to what price to expect?  EX: If we have 112 orders, people would expect that price range, but if we lose 20 orders after everyone pays, then what?  We just wait for more orders to come?

If I list a price without a price breakdown, will people think I'm inflating the price just to make a profit?  Ultimately, despite this downside, I felt I could list the price at $19 ($19.25 was the price point at 100 orders), and lower the price later if we got a lot more interest.  I felt that lowering the price later would be fine, but raising the price was almost a non-option, so starting at $19 felt safe.

When we were above 100 orders, I felt I could lose a little bit on shipping, because I was making a tiny bit on the orders.  When orders fell off more than I expected them to, I had to raise the shipping costs slightly in order to make sure that I wouldn't lose money, since per order I was actually losing money now.  But raising the price of the orders would scare people the most I felt.

This has caused a lot more anxiety than I ever would have thought.  It sounds like you're worried about being ripped off here, when I can assure you the chances of me losing money are greater than gaining a few bucks.

Conclusion: I'm not here to make a profit.

IWuzHere:  I wouldn't worry about it.  So far the payment process has been going pretty smoothly.  Absolute worst case scenario, I refund everyone's money and we all go about our lives.  But we all want our awesome Moogle Kit too badly for that to happen!

No, don't get me wrong, I do not worry about getting rip off.  You do all the work.  If there is a little bit profit to be had, that is cool.  If anything we should pay for your time and effort.  Anyhow I don't think it wouldn't be enough to make up for the time you have to spend on this anyway.  So I do appreciate you organizing this group buy.  And thank you for that.

Take a look at Noodles' Starcraft keycap group buy here, and aggiejy's RGB keycap group buy here (originally started by Noodles).  Noodles lists out all the pricing for each level.  I think transparency is the best way to do it.  So people have clear expectation on what price to pay at whatever total size of the order.  And you wouldn't have to explain any price increase (which already happened) or decrease.

You are running the group buy, so you make the call.  I just want to get to a lower price if we can.  I already paid.  So I am going to shut up.

Thanks.

Transparency works great if I can change the price at any time.

The problem comes when people have paid, and then we're all sitting around because 20 people lost interest, stopped tracking the thread, or simply backed out.  In this case, transparency can cause the same kinds of problems.  Ultimately, you just have to trust the person running the thread I guess... and I'm new here too.  Things aren't easy!

In my opinion, the worst problem was if I was asking people to pay more after they already paid.  Now that's a total mess.

If I ran a group buy with this many people again, I'd do it exactly the same.  I'd set a price where I expected the quantities to fall.  If orders go up after you list the price, you lower the price before everyone pays.  If interest completely falls off, then you're screwed either way.

My inclination is to agree with litster.  Transparency seems to me to be best in any circumstance.  If the buy fails, it fails because the GH market couldn't support it.

That said, I've never run a group buy and I don't doubt your good intentions and reasons for doing it the way you are.  I'm definitely not suspicious that you are trying to swindle us, and I'm totally fine with you making a small "profit" (or perhaps getting a set or two for free), given how much time and effort you have put into this.

Yeah, I had similar things in my groupbuy. In the end it worked out, but I didn't get as many paid orders as people in interest check. I just ended up picking up the cost myself to reach the minimum order. I figured I could sell them later on either here or on ebay or what have you. I'd also recommend pm to all that have not paid, as some people might not visit the board so often, may not have seen the order date, need a reminder.

Yep, that's what it is looking like lysol.  I'm sure if you guys thought about it a little more you'd see the dilemma.

Transparent cost breakdowns are a horrible model to use if your goal is to break even in my opinion.  Unless everyone understands that you are going to set the price high to begin with.

Hashbaz: the dilemma isn't just: does it fail or does it not fail?  Failing is the worst case scenario.  The dilemma is: will you sell as many as you set the price at?  How can you maximize the chances that your buyers will go over your intended price point should be the goal.  Going negative after a ton of work doesn't feel good.  Selfless, yes.

As Ascaii already said, there's no gift option for paypal in Germany. Judging from the examples you gave the fee should be about 4.1%, so I added that and a little extra for your effort. Wouldn't want you to lose too much on this.

Thanks.

Gilgam: Yeah, shipping is a one time payment.  We have a box that can pretty easily fit one hundred keys and up to 4 pounds, so I don't foresee any problems.  You paid correctly, thanks for checking!

You're welcome :-)
Now just sen me my drug ....

Is it the same length as a Cherry or Filco?  If so then just sacrifice some old keys for the cause.

Filco Majestouch-2 with Cherry Corp. doubleshot keys - Leopold Tenkeyless Tactile Force with Wyse doubleshots - Silicon Graphics 9500900 - WASD V1 - IBM Model M 52G9658 - Noppoo Choc Pro with Cherry lasered PBT keycaps - Wyse 900866-01 - Cherry G80-8200LPBUS/07 - Dell AT101W - several Cherry G81s (future doubleshot donors) (order of current preference) (dang I have too many keyboards, I really only need two)

Thanks but I prefer sharp spacebars like SP/Topre over Cherry or Filco. The angle is just perfect if you reverse them.
