New to nice?
« on: Fri, 28 December 2012, 19:43:23 »
Haven't really ever had a nice keyboard. Girlfriend told me she wanted to buy be something nice so I think I'm going to settle on a mechanical keyboard. Looking at a Ducky Shine 2 with blues but I'd like to try out the different types before I commit.
Thanks!

Welcome to Geekhack!

Try this first:  http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/wasd-sampler-kit.html

It's not the most realistic way to test keys, but it's way cheaper than buying 5 or 6 different boards, and it's cheap!

Welcome to Geekhack!

A Ducky Shine is a good keyboard (I have 2), if you want backlighting.  If not, a CoolerMaster Quickfire Rapid is a good, reliable alternative without backlighting (or a numpad), and is about half the price.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
