[IC] GMK Gold Rush
« on: Thu, 19 September 2019, 18:56:50 »
In collaboration with Project Keyboard, I welcome you to the interest check for GMK Gold Rush. GMK Gold Rush focuses on humanity’s desire for gold and is inspired by dusty mine shafts, gravel filled carts, and the glimmer of gold as it starts to peek through the rubble.

Please show your support and interest by filling out this form
https://forms.gle/f9zhuzFaZaAXKb6L8

Colors Used
GMK Gold Rush uses custom colors
Alphas: RAL 1013
Mods: RAL 8019
Legends: RAL 1023(mods), RAL 8019(alphas)

Similar Sets:
While no one technically can own a color, I find that it is important to acknowledge sets that have been run, currently running, or will be run. These are the ones I am aware of and what the similarities are.

GMK Cafe: Uses the same mod color as GMK Cafe - RAL 8019.
GMK Yellowjacket: Similar yellow on dark color(black/brown) mods with lighter colored alphas color scheme.
MG Ember: Similar yellow on dark color(black/brown) mods with lighter colored alphas color scheme.
JTK Yolch: Similar yellow on dark colored(black/brown) mods color scheme.

Kits
These are not the final kits and I will continue to refine them until GB time.
226626-3

These are not the final novelties and I will continue to refine them until GB time. Notice how the Sift key is actually the size of the Shift key (huhuhu)
226628-4

Gold Rush Special
To fit with the theme of rushing for gold. I will be offering a limited quantity of 24K gold plated novelty keys. Exact numbers and how to get these are still to be determined.

Looks good but the design looks identical to ePBT hive with monochrome kit... I mean idk who thought of it first but just an observation.

What he said. I think the Prospect key could change.

The set otherwise is pretty cool.

Eskimojo beat me to the punch, but I do dig the colorway! Great kitting too. Only one thing is missing, and that's a spacebar kit. I do have a tiny objection regarding the R3 '@, #~ keys; I'd say go with R3 \| instead (and possibly <> instead of R4 \|).

The font and size you chose for the "Prospect" and "Size" text reminds me of PBT Heavy Industry, which I like. Also, the whole aesthetic of the set reminds me of the 1993 Amiga/DOS game Diggers that I used to play as a kid :D

technically you didn't - EPBT Hive is the new version of GMK Yellowjacket.

Hello again! Today I bring you the GMK Yellowjacket revival I have been working on with GTRX,

ePBT Hive

Design

So this set probably looks very familiar and that's because it is! GMK Yellowjacket was a shelved project by GTRX and I wanted to get it going again, but as a pbt keycap set instead of the originally planned GMK. I've made changes to the kits, colors and renamed the set Hive. The colors are all custom pantones. I hope you like it!

Nice set! especially those novelties.
Maybe have all regular text mods to match the novelty text mods? Sift might look odd if the right shift is an icon.

I know GMK Merlin's 40's kit didn't do well - considering the ratio to base kits sold I'd say it did better than some sets actually - but we'll you please, please, please consider at the very least adding min. ortho support to the base kit or the spacebar kit? Yellow is one of my favorite colors. You'd only need 4, 1u keys:

r2: Out
r3: Data or Read
r4: Shift and Enter

Thanks for considering Merlin!

I wanted GMK Yellow Jacket. It got on hold. Then ePBT Hive appeared - that looked like a closest replacement, but would require two sets (since alphas in base are black). This one looks like it can be one set to get almost the same color scheme.

I'd honestly rather have the Sift key as a Shift key. But the Propsect key is still TBD. I don't like it as much as I thought I would.

I agree. Hiragana is at risk of losing its coolness out of overuse, especially in sets that are unrelated to Japan or Japanese culture in general. Doing a GMK GOJIRASTRIKESTOKYO set? Hiragana is fully warranted. Doing GMK MORTADELOYFILEMON? No Hiraganas, guys (no old Iberian scripts, for that matter, as even though both things do come from the same place, they couldn't be more far apart from each other).

The design of this particular set, as it stands now, is very good, so it doesn't need to artificially push up its coolness factor. IMHO, YMMV.

I never imagined this as a Japanese sublegend keyset. Those legends have no place in this set.

Japan does have a history in gold mining, but I think western nations especially the US has a richer history in it.

For me that's completely ok, IMO you, as the designer of the set, must stay to what you think the set is supposed to be. I talked about sublegends just because I really liked them, didn't even think about the suitability with the theme.
