[IC] MiCo60 | mint-copper | new colorway added | TELEPORT
« on: Wed, 14 April 2021, 06:25:12 »
Hi everyone!

We are a small keyboard manufacturer from Germany and in the game since last year. When we experimented with Cerakote, we realized that the mint of our prototype perfectly matched a copper plate that was still in our workshop. Philip immediately set about polishing the copper plate. The idea for the MiCo was born. (see the pics below, no render!)

266490-0266492-1266494-2

A idea from the community: What do you think about that new colorway? May we should rename in Bu(rgundy)Co60 ... :)

267040-3

Now we would like to present the idea to the community and find out what you think of the design. As a base for the board we could use our standard 60% with gasket mount.
In detail it has the following specs:

- Mounting: gasket-mount with brass weights as support (see exploded view)
- Mounting plate: polycarbonate, aluminum or brass
- Typing angle: 6°
- Front height: 17 mm
- Possible tops: WK, WKL, HHKB
- Case color: mint (ceracoated) + polished copper bottom-plate
- Possible Keyboard-Layouts with Teleport PCB: Ansi and Iso layouts for Standard, Tsangan, Arrows, HHKB, WKL (Stepped Caps, Split-Shift right and Split-Backspace, see pics below)
- Connector: USB-C connector with daughterboard for a horizontal cable exit
- Lights: none

We have prepared a Google form for the interest check. Please let us know what you think of the idea/board, what other suggestions you might have, where you are from, etc. In any case, interested or not - we are looking forward to your answers and are excited about the results, which we will discuss with you in two weeks! End of the IC is the 28th of April '21.

If the interest check was successful, we should be able to launch the Groupbuy around May!
As the small manufacturer we are (and only producing in Germany), our maximum quantity is 100 boards. From 25 boards the groupbuy could take place.
The target price is around 300 - 350 € (excl. taxes). (depends on the results of the IC).
Currently we only ship within EU, but we´ll try to make them available to a broader audience, so no one feels left out.

As a quality reference you can have a look at our current Groupbuy - the MKD-Custom 60%. (https://www.theteleport.de/en/collections/teleport-60-mkd-edition/products/mkd-60-board)

And the related typing video (raw! no post production)

For the ones interested in us, here´s a little backstory:
We´re a bunch of three, who got sick of the stock keyboards and found ourselves deep down the rabbit hole of custom keyboards during the end of 2019. What started as a project between two brothers and a childhood friend turned into something we figured we could share with the community. We went from, what we call “the beer prototype”, towards our first CNC-Milled prototype and finally our first complete custom keyboard. Now we want people to be able to use the case as a base for their own project, that´s what the DIY kit is for. We may consider special wishes, just get in touch and we´ll see what we can do. So from what I can see it seems like the keyboard will have a lot of empty space inside due to the fact the bottom lid is just a flat sheet of copper. Am I right or there is something to fix it in the design that is not visible from the renders/pics?

On another note, it’s a bit weird to have both brass and copper visible in a single keyboard. Is it possible to have all brass parts replaced by copper ones so the whole thing is just mint + copper?

Hey, thx for feedback, thats why we're doing this. Nice idea to have a copper-mountingplate - would be possible!

not so much empty space - our standard 60% fit really well because of the engineering and small pcb. for the rest you cann easily add some foam or silikon. the typing video u can watch is without any foam and without any post production (and no expensive equipment). we're really proud on this.

imo that should be half for a simple one piece with a flat bottom plate.

this will may be our first board shipping outside the EU so we have to evaluate all aspects around taxes - but for now thx for your feedback! i change the target price in an excl. taxes price

Would it take a generic (e.g DZ60) plate and PCB so it could be set up with split spacebar?

Found the IC :)
I hope a 65% is considered instead. I really prefer to have arrow keys.
The colour scheme is perfect for GMK copper!

I still prefer a 65%. 60% is mainly for the symmetry. The arrow key bottom row requires an iso Enter, and breaks the symmetry.

I think you can have ansi arrows with 60%, too. or may i forget something?

Edited.

Sorry you are right. It supports ANSI enter and arrow keys. There are some changes to the R4 row, eg 2u shift and 1u shift instead of the more regular 2.25 and 1.75u shifts.

Besides arrow keys, the other benefit of 65% is that u can add delete, pg up and pg dn keys.

The biggest benefit of 60% is the perfect symmetry, and adding arrow keys break that symmetry, which diminishes the point of having a 60% in the first place. My 2c.

No, there is no glue anywhere. Yes, it is part of the bottom piece and we are looking forward to improve the inner bottom for less space inside
