Costar stabilizers are considered better than cherry for that reason.

do you think I can remove the costar stabilizer from the Filco and put it on the Ducky?

^ No.

Dump the Sucky Ducky for F*cky sake.
I always tell people Ducky Sucks for F*ck but no one ever listens to #2 keyboard expert in the world.

Some people call it first world problems, I call it #1 problem.

It sure does. I brought it thinking I would like it seeing it was 109 Aud, compared to the 150 - 160 Aud for a Filco but I was disappointed. One of my customers has a Ducky Shining with Brown switched and it felt mushy when I was servicing the computer it was connected to.

Seriously though... apart from the cherry stabilisers, the Ducky's not a bad board by any margin!  I'm with you guys... I prefer the costar stabilisers but that's my only complaint with the Ducky's and Leopold's (will be curious to see what Leopold do with their upcoming 700's)!

Well, most people buy a Ducky because it is cheaper...
I only recommend Rosewill RK-9000 as a budget keyboard. Any less would be rubbish and no difference from buying a overprice gaming rubberdome keyboard.
There are alot of Quack engineers and salesmen out there.

PS : Once you go Filco, you can never go back.

Tell me about it, I have 4 Filco's since I started on them. 2 TKL Browns, 1 fullsize brown I use at work and 1 fullsize Linear R.

I wouldn't agree with that last comment.

Bought a Ducky to start with, loved it, have since sold it on to my brother who fell in love with it while I was home over Christmas, have since bought a Filco, am selling this weekend since I need the monies.

While there's no doubt the Filco is better made, while typing I don't notice a massive difference, and I'd be happy with another Ducky :/
But then again, some things annoy some more than others.

Steelseries uses Cherry Stabilizers = Rubbish
No feet (height adjustment)

Probably made by Datacomp or Assemblink. Still crap either one.

Cherry Stabilizers on my WYSE with vintage MX Blacks, seems to be the only switch that works well with them. Never tried them with any other type of vintage switches however.

I'm lucky to have both Ducky and Filco... and  I do agree that the Filco just has that edge on the Ducky.  But the Ducky is by no means as awful as you make out mate.

Right now though my Topre is toppin' both my Ducky and Filco at the moment! :)

Most of the keyboard with costar stabilizer came from the same factory, thus they are more or less the same.
It's more of aesthetic differences and mild additional features.

None have Ctrl/Caps swap that I know of.
Only KBC and Ducky have DIP switches.

Noppoo Choc Mini with Dip switches? I've got one and it doesn't have any Switch on it. And the stabilizers are not very good. Or maybe it's the building of the keyboard: very noisy.

You know, there's a lot of hate against the Cherry stabilizers used by Leopold, Ducky, and others.  They're not "current development", but my Amiga 2000 keyboard is PCB mounted Cherry MX blacks with Cherry stabilizers and most Wyse terminals I've used (some for many, many miles) are also Cherry stabilized MX blacks.  These were great keyboards on which I noticed no mush, and I'm fairly observant to that kind of thing.  Of course I'm more likely to notice now as opposed to when I was using WYSE and Amiga keyboards on a regular basis, but I've been refurbishing my Amiga and the keyboard feels and sounds great (except that linear isn't my preference).  I also have a Filco, model M, Topre, some ALPS boards, so it's not like I haven't used other options...

I wonder if Ducky's use of the stabilizers is at fault for amplifying the issue?  Or whether it's just the new Cherry stabilizers that suck...  Or maybe the black switches covered up the faults?  I'm kind of skeptical of that.

It doesn't? maybe you have to press Fn modifier key with one of the function key on the top row.  That's how the ducky 9008g2 works.

Lube or not, Cherry Stabilizer still changes the feel of the switch whereas Costar Stabilizer retains the feel of the switch.

Maybe some people like me are after perfection or suffering from mild-OCD.

I don't mind Cherry stabs at all on LINEAR switch. There really is not feeling difference in my opinion. On tactile switch with plate mount, yes they make feeling different. I don't think of it as mush, but deader feel. Rubber domes is mush, it don't feel that way.

It's not a personal issue when you are paying such amounts of money for a keyboard.

Why do newbie always sound like cheapskate or apple cults?

$130 for barely any QC vs $150 for very good QC...
Looks like it's getting easier and easier to separate stupid people from their money.

Both stabs have their con. Cherry have feeling difference, especially on brown/blue. Costar ones are vastly more annoying when swapping caps, and the cheaper ones that use thin paperclip wire which more prone to binds and twist.

Yet another one, that think PBT is far superior.
All caps become shiny over time laser is stains which looks more disgusting than Filco's shine.

Ripster have proved that caps are more or less personal preference just like you mention stabilizer are a preference.

If you are a product designer, you did realise that Ducky is very poorly designed.
Ducky has poorer ergonomic compare to other as the front of the keyboard is taller than all other mechanical keyboards.

- tall starting row
- space-given for attaching the cable is too small (mind you, I have small hands)
- creaky case

these are just some...

I love the Cherry-style stabilizers on both of my Leopolds. Blues and clears on those boards. I also like these PBT caps I pulled off of a G81 because they look nice. They could be ABS for all I care, as long as they look the same. Who cares about shining!

There's a reason why at the end of the day, most of the long time mechanical keyboard owner still end up owning Filco(s) and recommending Filco.
I don't hate Cherry stabilizer, in fact they are nice if the QC is good. I own many Cherry keyboards and will continue to buy more.

Ducky's QC and poor design makes it bad. I have contacts with distributors for Ducky, They have many issues with sticky keys for larger keys due to poor QC.

Whenever you see a "Help me choose my first mechanical keyboard", rarely will you see that someone would happily recommend a Ducky. Most will immediately recommend WASD, Rosewill, CM QuickFire Rapid, Filco and other Costar OEM unless TS ask for a small keyboard in which KBC Poker and Race will be recommended.

I played with a Corsair K60 yesterday, it uses Cherry stabilizers.  It's an OK keyboard, I do wish it didn't have any rubber domes on it though.  Also, not on the list but,Deck Legend are Cherry stabilizers.

My contacts informed me that Filco is making a pure white currently.

The problem with OEM company is that whenever someone invest in a new mold for a new model, any other company that is interested can simply order the same thing but without the investment cost. It will be some time or some serious contender is needed before any new model will come about.

The stabilizers on the Black Widows kind of fail. The Enter, Backspace, Shift key all bend a bit. The spacebar is solid though.

I have experiences using both types of stabilizers, and I, for one, doesn't mind either kind being used. So I would be one of those who would actually find it hard to make such one sided comment. oh and did I mention I actually dislike Filco keycaps?

Since a lot of us don't get to try keyboards before purchasing, each board bought is a lesson learned for the individual who would have preferences over different aspects of keyboards. I would personally just quietly resell the keyboard and recoup most of the investment back. IMO, making such complaint is not gonna help you reselling the board on classifieds. :)

stabilizers on duckys = McRip effect

aside from the DK 1087XM, ducky's recent lineup just gets better and better. their build quality is really high and they have a large variety of keyboards.

so i dont see why there is so much hate for Ducky's.

+1

Thats what I said!  ... What we have here ladies and gents, is a case of one person's extreme negative opinions of the board and a few others joining in on the hatin' (I'm looking at you No. 2 Keyboard expert) (:p) hehe

In all seriousness though... There are people, myself included, who have no issue with Ducky's.  I love my Ducky's just as much as my Filco.  Their 9xxx series have been going from strength to strength... we just won't mention the 1xxx series.

it's not a hate on Ducky as a company, it's my hate against their 9008G2 and the cherry stabilizer.

I am also checking to get a glow in the dark Ducky, seems really nice. I own a Filco Ninja MXBrown, so I will check how this stabilizers determine your typing feel.
