Ok here is another idea suggested to me.

Maybe as an extra key we have a Cherry corp logo :} like this one below
http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datei:Cherry.svg

It would then look something like this but a grey keycap with black outlines

So that the color will be matching this color scheme

Any thoughts ?

But, feel free to ask Cherry if we could use the logo.

I guess it can only happen if someone here who knows German can ask them for permission :} Any takers ?

What if we don't use the entire logo? What about just the "cherries" image?

About the font, the Cherry double shot font looks custom.

VAG Rounded Bold works, but the R is off.
Helvetica Rounded Bold works, but the G is off.

Hi pylon.

the lettered key replacements for the kit is

1. 2 x alt

2. 2x control

3. 1 x shift (right side)

None of them have the R and G, however the alphabet fonts look much more bolded than say capslock, shift, ctrl, alt etc.

Is it the same font your talking about but a reduced size and less bolding ?

The contenders:
http://new.myfonts.com/fonts/adobe/vag-rounded/vagrounded-bold-2/
http://new.myfonts.com/fonts/adobe/helvetica/rounded-bold/

Looking through Ripster's pics, neither VAG Rounded Bold nor Helvetica Rounded Bold are spot on.

The problem with Helvetica is the t's -the Cherry t's on "Control, Shift, and Alt" don't have the hook on the bottom. Helvetica's t's have hooks, while VAG Rounded doesn't. VAG wins here. +1 VAG

However, the C on the Cherries reach around more (hard to explain, but the C's go more around the circle than the VAG Rounded C's). Helvetica's C's are closer to the Cherry board than the ones on VAG rounded. +1 Helvetica.

Overall, I'd say go with VAG for those specific caps. But then, not every one is a font snob, and this is such a minor point to nitpick.

Also, while not on those caps, VAG's a is also off (the ones on the Cherries are double story a's, while the ones on VAG are single story a's, Helvetica is correct with its double story a's), which is another score for Helvetica Rounded Bold. Also VAG's numerals are off, while the ones on Helvetica are almost spot on. VAG also has a different R than the Cherry caps. Neutral because neither show up on Control, Alt, or Shift, but if you do different keys this will factor in. On the other hand, Helvetica has a different G than the ones on the Cherry caps (VAG's is almost spot on). Also, VAG's * is correct (6-sided), while Helvetica's (5-sided) is off.

If you ever want to do the whole set, consider mixing VAG and Helvetica.

What font size do you reckon for the kit we are doing ?

No idea. You probably have to convert them to vector files and send them off to Signature anyways, so just scale it against the whole key compared to the caps you already have.

I don't have double shot Cherry caps lying around so I can't make comparisons.

Outside of my rubber dome MX-stem compatible Gateway Anykey (which already has double shots, though low contrast) , I don't own any Cherry boards. I'd like to try out blues some time though.

I'm just helping out with fonts to match the Cherry Corp doubleshots.

12 point seems exactly like the Cherry key i got for control and alt.

For Shift it's somewhere between 12-14 point. The S looks slightly off, but you'd probably only notice close up.

@Pylon

Just one snag. This font seems like it's commercial :/ hm... yeah.... gonna be a problem :{

Well, if it saves you a ton of money and the people buying the keys don't mind, you could just use the stock Signature Plastic font. It's quite different from the Cherry font, but if everyone else agrees I don't see why not. Saves you money.

You can also get away with Arial Rounded Bold (comes with some editions of MS office) instead of Helvetica Rounded Bold, or you can ask around geekhack to see if anyone happens to own those fonts. I don't.

well, if the cost is the same might as well add the right shift to all kits?

Also, is the centered CAPSLOCK in the black/white kit? I want to make sure this is official.

yeah centered capslock for both colors.

if it doesn't add to cost sure we can add the right shift for the beige/white although i don't really see the point. Unless your assuming you can harvest white/beige doubleshot cherry 1800 board which i never heard/seen before :x

Just spotted a white/beige double shot donor board g81-1800 HAU

So yeah sure we will also add a right shift for the white/beige set as well (although if you get sixty's set you won't need it)

Put me down for another core kit(black with white fonts) and 2 right shift keys(1 white/beige and 1 black with white fonts). Decided on buying MY7000 boards since two of my boards are tenkeyless (won't need the numpad keys). Rather someone who has a full board take advantage of sixtys keys.

As for the cherry logo key cap. I can gather up a few cherry silhouette designs. You think cherry would get sue happy though?

Seems the Koreans may have beaten us to the punch.

http://keyboardporn.com/keycaps/cherry-spherical-replica-keycaps/

These seem to be blanks, but the color is a matching beige/white if i'm not mistaken.

But the ones we will be ordering will be double shots :X

Anyways does anyone have high resolution pictures of those OTD keys ? So we can get a better idea what our kit may look like >:D

*found it

http://geekhack.org/showthread.php?t=14680

*updates

Anyways theirs are spherical, and the one we need is cylindrical. Also theirs is all blanks. We want some doubleshots, and maybe 2 blanks (in case you don't like windows keys).

Their color is slightly off i'm told. Maybe if we are lucky we can get a full picture as a rough demo :x

price is already mentioned by 7bit in the first post. also window keys are doubleshots.

If your talking about windowED keys for led lighted switches, those are unconfirmed and probably unlikely.

Since Moogle wanted these, just for color comparison:

Ignore the keycap profile and the bad pic (I snapped it before leaving to work, had no time to take a proper picture). Top is real Cherry Corp, bottom is  Signature Plastics. The grey is maybe one shade lighter on the real Cherry Corps, but its very close.

This Windows-logo keys are double shot, but not the LED-window keys. SP just can't do that.

I will check the price with SP as soon as I get a list of what should be ordered and sixty came forward with the color-codes.

Good luck with that. This is GeekHack bro!

Speaking of random ****, that pic is not the real SNSD. Just some Japanese fans dressed as them. :)

Good to know...I didn't recognize any of them but didn't say anything so as not to appear racist. I can tell them apart for the most part. Except sometimes they change their hair, get surgery, etc...

Judging from sixty's picture for the previous work of SP, i'm pretty confident it will turn out good.

Probably more so once Sixty finds his SP plastic color key ring :X

As for the LED-window key; it is possible though it may have to be a blank. The only doubleshot part is the window bit (correct me if i am wrong 7bit).

But the text will have to be pad printed which will cost more than most of us would care to pay for.

So if there are led windowed keys on offer it will be blanks.

The window key won't look the same as the cherry's as in the window will be like this

Blank would be fine with me. I'd only want one for my numpad key (because the led shines through the part of the board where that key is a bit). And I'm getting a LITTLE tired of waiting for ClickClack's clear keys to come out!

I got a message from SP:

The good news is:
Yes, they can make keys with transparent sections.

The bad news is:
No, it can't be the Cherry-style window, and ...

If they have got a window:
Nope, they can't do them double shot, because ...

It would be tripple shot in fact, which SP had not yet invented. :-(

There are 2 options:
- Pad-printing the text (costly, bad quality)
- Window only.

The window could be any simple shape like a circle, square, rectangle and triangle.

3 of these symbols (circle, square, triangle) are very classic. These appeared on the legendary Space Cadet keyboard and also on the later Symbolics keyboards.

I will make a graphic of the Ducky layout with those key caps.

I still wait for the prices by the way....
.................................
... $3.85 each! (if produced 25, as always)

OK, forget it with the Symbolics-like shapes, here is a pic I just received (hope it is allowed to post here; did not ask)

As you can see, no Cherry-style window.

What would come closest, would be an upright rectangle at the bottom of the key-top (not shown here).

What a shame rally, they can't do them with double shot labels.

There found the quote. This is what SP has in regards to LED windowed keys.

My preferred choice is the authentic cherry windowed keys, but seeing as how they are scarce, then i'd say SP's lower rectangled window key is alright or better yet the upright rectangle on the bottom side of the key although he doesn't have a picture to show what that may look like. Eitherway, ducky led is situated bottom center hence why i prefer that.

Anyway the led will be some sort of extras for the set, so i'll put you down for one.

Took this photo tonight just because I was curious to see how the rest of Sixty's set would look on my board:

yeah thats what we are aiming for.

But the windows key probably won't be rounded (personally i like the rounded look but probly won't happen).

Anyway the windows key will be the same like white rice's, and the color will be matching beige like the cherry set.

Menu key also will take after white rice's, color also matching beige for the cherry set.

Just curious but is it possible to do a led capslock? If not it's cool, I'll just drill a hole when this group buy takes off. :D

well the windowed keys i had in mind was the small sized ones with blanks.

A windowed double shot key for the capslock may not be possible since they can't have a lettered print (unless pad printed) when adding the window. Also not sure how many people would want that.

Once we get the full 25 required for the core kit, we can vote if people want to include the full ducky kit, and other extra keys.

Cherry key seems unlikely since nobody has managed to get Cherry corp's permission yet. Also i think people want to save on costs and just get the core kit foremost. But we will do a vote and see later.
