Pretty sure they’re the same as the Chicony ones: pad printed on flimsy ABS. I really hate the keycaps on a Chicony board I got, good luck finding someone who wants these.

They are from a Monterey board, but that is not the news I wanted to hear.  They might be on the freevstuff pile soon enough.

The Monterey ones might be slightly nicer, I’m not sure. It’s hard to tell from those pictures.

The Monterey board I have has some nice-ish doubleshots, but those look like pad printed caps, the same ones you get on some cheap Chicony boards.

tl;dr: Do the keys produce what the labels show?

I have a couple J89 Maltrons (without trackball) now, and I was curious if all the keys are labeled correctly. I know it's an odd question. On my second Maltron that I purchased, I found out that some keys aren't as the keycap has them labeled. For example, on the left the ' and " key is actually ' and @. The " is shift-8 where the @ should be. There are a few other keys that are like this. Instead of # being on shift-3 like it is labeled, it is shift plus the key above Shift Lock. Suffice to say, it's a little confusing going from one Maltron at work to the other at home. I'm always trying to remember where all the keys actually are.

Yes, all the keys are labeled correctly.  The output of the keys might be affected by DIP switches on the back, or the OS language settings.

I still have an Ergodox that I like to use for experimenting with one-handed layouts.  I simply have realized the expensive ergonomic keyboards are not necessary to reduce my hand pain.  I find a nice ergonomic mouse to be more important.

I have been looking at your Maltron everytime you bump it, hoping that someone nice will buy it and do a teardown/ review with special focus on the ergonomics.

If you do list on Ebay, do put a link here. Who knows, people will bid. Especially if you start the bid at $0.01, heh...

I've done that before on here somewhere, but I don't remember which thread.  I did not get too scientific about it, just compared it to the Kinesis Advantage and Ergodox.  In my view, the only advantage of the other two are price and programmability.  But I found the layout of this particular Maltron to be so good, that I have no need for changing the layout.

How does the trackball work? Is it a separate adb connection?
Basically, if I were to buy this and adaptit via usb, would I need 2 teensy's?

Thanks for the interest.  The trackball is a little shaky and not totally smooth, but usable.  The keyboard and trackball work through one ADB connection, but I'm not sure if two separate controllers are in the keyboard.
