GMK Yuri R2 / GMK Skydata

It has been few years since the first run. I have been asked to do another run and here it is. Round 2 offers similar kits to the first round and introduces GMK Skydata, which combines Yuri's light blue with fiery orange as monocolor set. Additionally there is a forties kit and it will bring Yuri's bright colors to smaller layouts. I know not everyone is appreciating working class sign (hammer and sickle) and as alternative for novelties i am offering Cherry Picker kit. I might extend Novelties and Cherry Picker kits with other novelties.

The Group Buy will start in November!

I vote for removing the numpad sublegends (or making them front pad-printed like SysRq and Break).

I also vote for adding 1.25u space to spacebars (both in Forties and Spacebars) and R3 PgUp, R4 PgDn to bases

Second 2.25u space in Forties was probably intended be a 2u.

Nice! And there is also a couple of interesting additions for R1 owners!

BTW, please, consider adding an orange 6u (uncentered?) spacebar. Not really popular nowadays, but I had to ask.

I don't know about the GMK capabilities but I second this. A dual-legends one will legit get me to buy two base kits -- not that one more kit matters to the overall GB, but I love this set way too much to let it pass

Yuri Base kit
- Added numpad accent key

Skydata base kit
- Added numpad accent key
- Changed accent keys symbol color to light blue in order to follow monocolor rule.

Cyrillics
- Removed obsolete numrow keys which are already available in base kits

Xtra kit
- Introduction. Xtra kit might be extended with other not necessary but nice to have keys which are not included in base kits.

Cherry Picker
- Added Skydata accent novelties

also this is a weird one but a 1u r3 caps lock in the forties kit? would love to have this for a preonic.

I agree with your suggestion of putting second 1u Alt and 2× 1.5u Super in the Xtra kit.

But I don't think R3 1u Caps is common enough to warrant including it (see the ortho keycap survey). A generic legend like 1u Code, Hack or Meta would be better since it would also be able to cover Ctrl and Fn as well as Caps.

i didn't know about this survey. very helpful. it'd be nice if it got refresh somewhat frequently.

Regarding dual Latin-Cyrillic legends, there is another IC currently running to create them in GMK. It would be cool for those to be used in this project as well.

Nah this are not the latin-cyrillics i would use in my project. The existing Cyrillics which i introduced in Yuri R1 can only be used as they are currently (single Cyrillics). And to make latin-cyrillics properly i need to make completely new Cherry alphabet (say whole alphas) and i got no time for that. So there will be no latin-cyrillics in this round but cyrillics only.

The renders in that post are not yet representative of what the set will use. Tom is looking into producing proper sublegend molds, with the correct Cyrillic letter shapes, much like what Yuri uses. You guys should probably get in touch, even if Yuri R2 won't be featuring a sublegends kit.

At least I can put together a 40% ortholinear using just the cryllic alphas kit & 1 or 2 40s kits. Thanks for having 2x 1u shift keys.

What is the inspiration for the light and dark blues in the kit? Curious as to what made you choose those colors, for example Godspeed has beige colors for the alphas reminiscent of computers from the Apollo era.

I've planned Yuri themed keyset long time before and struggled to find proper colors. Typical colors for that would be mostly green/olive (because of space programs military roots) with white/beige, orange and red accents. I made it more abstract as back in the days almost every kid wanted to become cosmonaut. Say almost everyone had that childish dream for space travel. So i approached it with more bold colors to reflect that child dream. In the end it still has orange color like Yuri's space suit, sky like light blue and space like dark blue colors.
