Hi all!

I'm sorry for the long wait. I'm still waiting on PCBs to be made up. There has just been several connections of delays both as a cause of me not wanting to nag too on others to finish their part, and also external factors I can't control.

There are two other big parts of making a high end keyboard I don't have the skills and patience to do: Making a PCB and dealing with logistics and papers.
Leaving those two parts to partners to collaborate with, you sacrifice the option to have full control over a project. But in most cases though you really don't want full control because it requires you to be consistently motivated to work on it and pull it through.

I definitely am not consistently motivated, hence I credit a lot of this project to w3bb0, because he often took a lot of the initiative in the beginning, while we were working on the Arrow 40 and it made me want to finish working on the case.  This eventually led to the Eclipse. But with the second and current edition of the design, we've just had a lot of delays due to the global matters of 2021 and both of us being busy with work and university. It's still however, the result of us both imagining our dream keyboards and I'm confident it's gonna be a really pleasant and elegant looking keyboard!

Cheers to all of you who've been patiently following our project and have supported us with kind and generous words!  :)

Here's a little teaser render of what I want to do in the future :)

Hi!
PCBs needs further work, we will be changing the MCU so that we won’t need to wait until march for a restock (is what I hear!)

I’m afraid there will be no GB in 2020 :(

Considering the year it’s been, I’m not surprised things were severely postponed. There’s no need to rush things and I think there are plenty of great GBs going on to keep us occupied.

But i do think i will have a prototype ready pretty soon. New PCB should be ordered by the end of the week and might arrive next week and forwarded to me for testing.

I think my prototype case is just as eager as me, to be tested properly, as it’s just been sitting on display for 3 months now :>

I also just remembered that I need to do a render with a green case with Serika on, as promised!

No need to rush, enjoy the remaining days of 2020 and have a great Christmas.  Then we can get excited for this next year.  Better to be perfect and late and early and average.

Seb - That build is awesome! My grandfather was from Wales and he and my dad were huge Jackie Stewart fans, especially when he was driving for Lotus (even though Jackie was Scottish). When I showed that keyboard to my dad he nearly lost it, he was so excited. He's always been a tinkerer and he appreciates this hobby, even though he thinks it's crazy to spend so much for a few parts. But he understands it. More than once he's told me, "I spent my money on fast women, fast cars and whisky, the rest of it I wasted." Your build gave us a chance to connect over a mutual love for esoterica that only a small community is really passionate about. Thanks!

Happy new year to everyone who's following the Geekhack thread!

As of right now we are in the queue at JLC for PCB prototypes. Certain parts were not in stock, which led to our order being cancelled in December so it had to be tuned a little bit and re-ordered.

Thank you for your continued display of patience :)

NE 3-1-3 split SB avail?

Hi and sorry for the very late reply! There will only be 2.75 - 1.25u - 2.25u split spacebar available. We tried to accommodate for as much compat for the PCB as we could, without making it too complicated.

The hotswap is in process of being designed. We should be able to offer it as an option yes *crosses fingers*

Hi everyone!

Thanks to those who popped by my stream today!

I built the first ever prototype of Eclipse, with stock Mekanisk ultramarine switches, on an aluminum plate.

Dark Grey Eclipse, GMK Oblivion

Here is a quick sound test of the final result.

Moving forward, we're looking at doing some minor improvements of the PCB, as well as making a hotswap ANSI version. I will get back with further info/dates!

Thank you all!

Has the number and vendor finalized?

Number is around 150, spread across the different vendors though! We're working on this now. Mykeyboard is the main vendor :)

I would love to say that in about a month, we should be getting ready for GB!  Just need to finalize PCB design along with the hotswap edition, make  a few minuscule tweaks in the design:

Case:
  • Decrease clearance for the gap between the plate and the bottom case - to improve alignment.
  • Change radius of plate corners to match radius of the cutouts in the case.
  • + any possible additional feedback from poesjuh (the other streamer who will build the case)
Gaskets:
  • Enlarge holes for screws in the gasket sheets so screws don't get stuck.
  • Have adhesive surface of the gasket sheet be on the correct side lmao.
  • Possibly make gaskets of a slightly stiffer material.

O.K. sounds great thanks for the answer. I have another stupid question. This whole Group buy thing is new for me. The price is not interesting for me 400 or 500 is not the problem. My problem is how difficult is it to get one of these boards? Is 150 enough to get one on the first day or is this like the AMD or Nvida Graphic Cards and they are gone in seconds?  ;)

Honestly I think it should be fine! It’s mainly only the hype boards by Keycult, Smith
& Rune, Mekanisk etc that go immediately. I’m more worried about actually filling the spots :) In any case, I’m up for a second round if everything goes well and there is enough demand for it. Thank you for the interest!

I'd be super surprised if this doesn't sell out quickly, honestly. It's such a cool board and hotswap will really sweeten the deal. I'm planning to watch that GB opening like a hawk.
