It is time to move on
« on: Wed, 25 September 2013, 10:08:22 »
Hey folks.

I´m a 32 years old german geek

After years of abusing soft-dome keyboards it is time to advance! Really, my future employments most likely involve modest times of typing beyond occasional web-browsing, so it is time to look for something more ergonomical. Have been lurking here for a few days now and finally convinced myself to invest such a ****load of money xD I guess my second post on this forum is going to be a thread about helping me decide which board suits me the best.

I hope I can give something back in the future.  :thumb:

Thought this was a leaving thread :(

Welcome brunder!

Have fun here!
unless they have some unforeseeable downside (like they're actually made of cream cheese cunningly disguised as ABS)

Due to the constrain of cash  :)) I´m actually hunting for a cherry g80-1800. Seems to be a good starter and you get them pretty cheap around here.

Now that you're done with soft-dome keyboards it's time to buy a $300 Topre soft-dome keyboard!

Welcöme :)

Maybe for a starter keyboard the Cherry MX Board 3.0 is something for you. It's also not that expensive and uses the cherry switches. But it seems it's in ANSI and not in ISO (for example ANSI means a smaller enter key instead of a bigger enter key, usually used in Germany).

As funny as it might sound - they are only available with black switches in germany.  :'(

I got a Cherry G80-1501 HAD from eBay.de, it was around 20 Euros if I recall correctly.  There are also G80-3000 keyboards available, with MX Black or MX Clear switches, but I think those are more expensive.

Black switches are best switches.

The G80-1501 is one of my favorite keyboards, I can attest to the silky smooth action of the vintage MX Black switches.  But I tend to use the Marquardt military keyboard for my daily driver at work, stable as a rock and nice linear action on the switches.

My bad, I didn't know.. I thought they are available with every switch type..
I got one with MX Red Switches. Maybe it's better (if you are searching for reds) for you as they aren't as heavy as the black switches but still linear.

No need for excuses! It´s plain funny that in the country of Cherry you don´t get a minuscule of their products.

I´m especially looking for clear MX, so tactile is what I look for. Neither black nor brown are going to cut it. Blue are simply to loud,

But my only definite requirement is the possibility to swap all keycaps to blanks. Seems rather difficult....  :(

One of the other forum members picked up a Cherry G80-3000 with MX Clears, new from Jakob Elektronik.

Product code: G80-3000LQCEU-0

Might be worth giving them a call to check stock?
