I have searched and searched for a post your buckling spring board, but found nothing (if you find one, I will close this one, just link it).  I see so many pics floating around a ton of different threads, so I thought it would be nice to have more in one place.   :thumb:

Post the model and date. 



I will start.
I have been looking for a while for one after hearing so many good things about them and finally came across one at Church today. 

My new (to me) 1391401 Model M.  Pretty dirty, but in very good shape overall.

I know, I replaced it with a blank anyways since the dirty enter didn't have a stabilizer leg that fits into the white inserts and the blank did.

found a junker and swapped out the cover (lid) from "blue label" to "black label"- blacked out area next to caps. drilled out LED area and stuck on a label i ordered from unicomp

also put a little insulation, duct tape, etc. behind the steel plate which reduced, space bar pinging, etc.

Insides from Dec '95: great shape, all plastic rivets intact. Case from a terminal keyboard from Jan '87. The keys are from both because the newer one lacked a few.

Just went though mine and cleaned out the case (and the 6 broken rivet heads).  Board is in great shape.  Caps have no shine as the dirt was protecting them quite well.  There was quite a bit of chow on the board, and a bunch of sticky stuff, but it all came off and now the board feels new. 

Ordered up a few caps from Unicomp to brighten it up a bit.

I bought a socket driver from eBay, from China.  A set of 4 was about $16.

Mine differs in that it's a vanilla Lexmark Model M.....in almost mint condition, the three LED indicators aren't working, will look into that when I'm in the mood...

Get the blank pebble keys by sanding?  Looks very nice.

no, I ordered a blank set at unicomp in complete pebble. normally its a combination of pebble and pearl. And mixed this up with a blank black set. I tried to make a good picture, but failed. Pebble is the color that normally only the modifiers have. It now looks very military in real. :)

Here is how mine turned out.  I used and extension to hold it and took it to a floor mounted 6" grinding wheel.  Took about 30 seconds.

This is my 121 key model M.   Obviously it began life as a 122 key keyboard, but I modified the layout of the numpad to include a more modern double sized plus key.

It is a terminal keyboard model number 1394324.  Knicker shot...

I bolt modded it so that I could renew some slightly slack springs and change the layout.  Unfortunately the space bar is misbehaving after the bolt mod so I will have to undo the bolts and try again to get it all seated correctly.  Apart from the misbehaving spacebar it is a really cool keyboard to type on.  All the springs are as good as new. 

The Keycaps are a mixture of the original set and a UK layout 101 key set from Unicomp.  The layout on the terminal keyboard was not what I was used to.  I chose to keep the simplest of the keycaps for as clean a look as possible.  The Lettered function keys open Windows Applications such as Exporer, Outlook and One Note.  The Geekhack functions as a windows key.  The Num Lock has been removed and instead now opens a calculator.

Conversion to USB is handled by Soarers mod.

Internals from an iso '86 M in a new industrial shell. Most of its time only in a box, cause I think its to big for my desk. And I prefer to buckle springs on my ssk.

Yeah blanks on the modifiers would look better. I've just been lazy to do it. Sadly no the person who made the keys is not doing anymore anytime soon. I doubt it he will ever do the mods in metal either.

If you do the spacebar mod, you could also use a set of unprinted black keycaps. I think this would look also very good in combination with the metal keys and one of the rwb clacks :D

Here is a little project I've been working on. A Unicomp 122 chopped down past an unsaver (chopped unsaver? =)). Big thanks to wcass, I pretty much copied his original idea and build. Also want to thank Dorkvader for his helpful troublehooting advice during my first bolt mod.

Not all the keys are working yet, I think I damaged some of the contacts on the membrane sheet so I'll be on the hunt for replacement membrane sheet. Once I swap it, it should be 100% functional. For now, it's just a shelf queen, lol.

Overall, it turned out better than I thought. The stabilized keys are all wonky and I'm trying to fix them, but otherwise it turned out well.  The case was hard to dye since I couldn't exactly fit it in the pot.  I had to pour the dye and hot water into another container and refresh it with hot water from time to time to keep it warm.  It took me about 6 hours to get it this color and it could have benefited from longer.  In either case, it didn't turn out poorly.

Oh, for reference, it's Black, Red, and Crimson iDye Poly.

Be aware, the case is a ***** to dye.  It took a good 6 or 7 hours to get it that color since I didn't have anything I could do it over the stove with.  I was afraid it wasn't going to turn out well since it still looked pretty bad at hour 4 or so and was only mediocre at hour 5 or so.

This is kind of a necro, but rowdy pointed me to this thread, so throw all sticks and stones at him :)

Anyways, I got my Model M keyboard last week. The board looks really nice, but it is missing the label on the back. Does anyone want to take a guess what year it might be from?

Attached are a couple of pics, the front and the back (yeah, I know that USB/PS2 adapter won't work; Soarer's in the mail). Can something more be known from the outside, or do I have to open it?

It seems to be a bit of an oddball.  It has a detachable cable, which I only have on my white label ones, but it has a blue label.  Different case on the chassis of a white label?

And several ps2 to usb converters work perfectly fine.  In fact, even that one might.  I actually didn't know there was even an issue with ps2 to usb converters until I found GH.  Mine always work.

Yeah its just sanded and painted. It was in pretty nasty shape when i got it. Basically i pulled it all apart and cleaned it with bathroom cleaner. I was able to save the foam which was good. The plate had to be sanded and primed and I opted to go with a hint of color. Wired up a Teensy 2.0 to the board and loaded up TMK i think and remapped some keys so that left shift and enter were in the right places for where my pinky's were hitting. I'm going to make a proper plastic molded usb port for the hole that was left from the oem cable and mount the teensy properly. I'll toss up some pics of that when i'm done.

Nope, they think it is ammusing.  I work in a food lab, so ther are scientists coming and going, so no one has to sit nearby and listen all the time.  And yeah, Unicomp for consistancy in colors.  At least they are cheap.  I was tempted to buy another set to see if I could get two that are closer in color but the difference is slight to the naked eye.  It looks much worse in photos.

I have actually seen a couple of sets where they are both the same colour, but most of them are not.

Quite a few people didn't realise until I pointed it out, but it was blindingly obvious to me as soon as I opened the box.
