G81 Doubleshots?
« on: Fri, 17 November 2017, 10:45:47 »
Currently eying a  G81-8000HPCUS

The seller claims the keycaps are doubleshots but I don't believe it. To me its like sellers who put "CLICKY" on any old beige keyboard.

What do you guys think? They look too sharp to be the lasered POM's that some G81's come with so this leads me to believe that they are either doubleshot or pad printed.

If it's the one posted in Great Finds some weeks ago, they are indeed doubleshot. I own a set.

Yes, those are doubleshots. I'd be wary of the condition of that one though, you can find those NIB pretty frequently. Not saying its in bad shape but the incredible amount of dust makes it hard to tell

Thanks.

It does look quite dusty and the caps a bit shiny but the dust can be dealt with and NIB caps will shine anyway since they're Abs.

A lot of dust is usually a good thing, as it serves as a protective layer. And in most cases it only takes a quick rinse to remove.

For future reference: you could take the number, G81-8000HPCUS, and decipher it here.

It does indeed look legit. The Windows keys are off aligned and pad printed, that's usually a sign that the rest are doubleshot on a G81 board.

They can be incredibly filthy. What I did with my OG Triumph Adler typewriter caps and the G81-3000 set was wash them with dish soap to get rid of all of the gunk and dust. Afterwards they came out shiny but in perfect condition.

And the spacebar has MY stabilizers mounting supports so it's not MX compatible.
