Title: sth's blog - new update! pinball and keyboard switches... who knew!
Post by: sth on Mon, 10 August 2015, 05:36:11
new blog time

new blog post: i hope your typing technique does not require you to flip your spacebar!

side note: i was just back in the US for a few weeks and drank a lot of rainier. coming back to EU... there is no cheap beer of compare but at least i can get delirium tremens at the bar across from my house for fairly cheap.

I tried flipping my space bar once, and it made no difference to the feel, but did irk my mild OCD as it looked different.  Wrong somehow.  So I flipped it back again, and I've felt better ever since.

we also have very easy access to la chouffe which is pretty similar (kinda sweet tasting, deceptively strong) and leads to similar results :))

you dont need to add a stem for flipping purpose because you dont need to flip

why would you come onto my blog to flame against my deeply held beliefs

I've flipped in the past, on two separate occasions actually. I won't be angry at those who do, but I personally don't see a need.

yeah it's great and it will **** you up real quick, so whether you're a drinker for pleasure or whatever, it's at the very least non-offensive. if you like darker beers it's probably not up your alley and you probably know of equally-strong beers in that category.

Most of the time, if I'm looking for a strong dark beer I'll get a Blue Chimay. But next time I go to the store I'll be sure to grab 1 or 2 Deliriums to give it a try

I've tried to get into bourbon but I just can't do it. Somehow just too sweet on my palette(even though I can drink sugary stuff).

I dislike Jameson as well as john is walkers(some are alright but overpriced).

I love me something peaty. Ardbeg or hmmmm forget the name of it!

Sadly the scotches I like the most here cost around $100. Considering I'm the kind of guy to drink a bottle in one sitting, I don't drink it often. I miss Nevada prices on booze.

Have you tried any Japanese whiskey? It's really good. 12 year old Hibiki is the biz.

It comes in a smaller bottle so you can drink the whole thing in one sitting and not feel bad...actually, you'll feel really good =P

new blog post: reminiscing

sometimes i miss my old blog. it was a pretty good blog. lots of cool people were hanging out and discussing the issues of the days. my old blog made me feel young again. my old blog was a friendly place. then i made the decision to close that blog.

i started another blog on deskthority. i still have that blog. you want to know something funny? i generally like the discourse on DT - it's usually very polite and i guess high-minded or whatever, but i get some crap on my blog there. why would you go to a blog you dont like? i can't figure it out.

anyways, that blog's still around and sometimes i post in it, but i really liked having a blog here. so i started a new blog here. it's off to a pretty good start. thanks to everyone who comes to my blog here and there and special thanks to all my friends who visited my old blog. i really hope this blog can reach the level of my old blog, but if it doesn't, it will still be just as good but in a different way.

here's some questions: what are you typing on today? why? where'd you get the board? did you buy it new, used? or did you build it? is it your favorite board?

i saw this picture on the internet today and thought i would share it with you:

and hey, i will be creating a banner for my blog that u can put in your signature if you want. would anybody be interested in this??? would it be OK if it featured FIERCE HORSE??? or is that overdoing things?

I am typing this on my HHKB.  I bought it secondhand through eBay from Queensland, I think.  It's a Feb-2011 model with a little shine on the space bar, but otherwise in pristine condition.  My one regret is that it did not include the original box.

It is one of my favourite keyboards, the other favourite being a Model M (or SSK).  But the buckling springs are too loud to use at home at night and early in the morning, hence my quite willing switch to the HHKB during the week.

I'm using an black HHKB pro 2 made in late 2014, bought new from EK.

In good condition and spacebar still doesn't have any shine yet, I've modded it with 55g domes, and I'll start lubing and silencing it once I get my JT sliders.  :)

And so far in the keyboard world, it's my favourite.

Confused about the blog stuff, but typing on my Realforce, which I bought used. It is by far my most loved keyboard I have and use. Here's a pic of mine also with cucumber I brought for the colleagues from our garden, and I am making a break right now, which I should not take because of lots of work which should be done, but I want to make a break and post for example in this blog.

nice to see so many topre users on my blog!

rowdy - i've got my og-hhkb pro1 but it was sent to me in a pro2 box :( i feel your pain. my spacebar is pretty shiny but that's because i use it a lot... no time to baby my keyboards!!! i am however looking forward to the pbt spacebars from matt3o because i am starting to feel the shiny spots and my thumb "grips" the worn spot in a weird way now.

madhias - nice cukes! those are chubbier than any i've ever seen. i too have a lot of work to do but sometimes a blog break acts as a nice reset.

The work keyboard is a Dolch 1800 case with a Leeku 1800 and plate. I just call it the Leeku Dolch 1800. Has stock MX clears, a butt load of LEDs, and Cherry WoB/GMK CMYK. I *need* the numberpad for the work I do and I really like the 1800 layout for work. I haven't rotated it out since I got it. It's nice but my favorite keyboards are at home: Kingsaver with Complicated Blue Alps and the IBM 6019284 with capacitive BS switches.

Looking forward to the fierce horse banner. Fierce horse is best horse.

Is that 65g in Korean measurements or Cherry measurements?

Right now I'm using some crazy Frankenswitchs, that were made with the bottom half of the switch coming from MX Blacks, the top and stem from Gateron Blues, and springs from MX Clears. So far I think I've really been liking how they feel

slow day on GH
slow day in irc (shhh)
slow day at work

i watched taxi driver for the first time today
i also finished scarface (which i started yesterday)
now i'm watching king of new york

i should probably watch something less violent next, eh? i'm just trying to catch up on stuff i've never seen - i was pretty movie-deprived as a kid (not that these are kid movies) so i've got a lot to see. coming up soon: goodfellas and the godfather movies, i think.

i guess im a fan of rambling/uneventful/pointless movies (taxi driver isn't any of those specifically but it doesn't really go anywhere, either). then again i also love stupid big budget action movies like the fast series...

fixed.

i have hhk layout gh60 but time and again i return to my hhk. i'm a faster typist on my hhk than with cherry -- maybe because i modded with dental rings for quicker actuation? maybe it's something else. topre feels more stable to me than flimsy cherry mx too.

does anybody have any recommendations for stuff to learn on guitar? im trying to work on folky fingerpicking like this (i've been playing this one a lot with a slightly different, very simplified picking pattern... sure wish i had a 12 string to play this though):

If you're talking about University/College when you say school, I had quite a lame experience. I did a Computer Science degree.. already having been programming in my free time for several years before. Unfortunately we had to start from the basics, so I didn't learn anything really. Ah well.

new blog post

Dear Mister Nachos Representative
Hello Mr. Representative, I have received a new product offering of your company (Nachos) and I have to say I am disappointing in your food-related product. I would like to enumerate this problems:

-Software Update for Nachos Explorer hang on "Verifying Sour Cream Post-Install" and when I hard reboot the Nachos the Nachos turned black and now my kitchen is on fire
-The store I purchased your product (Nachos) from (Circuit City) will not honor your reseller-warranty agreement (attempts to rectify this in person have gotten me tresspassed from the Circuit City which is now empty)
-My wife left me because of your product's Jalepenos add-on. Come back Sherry
-The packaging did not do wonders for me but I suppose you're a Nachos expert, not a graphic design expert.  Please do the needful.
-they gave me the poops. My doctor is furious with me. I'm furious with my doctor. These issues are unrelated to your product (herpes  goes both ways, Dr. Flannegan)
-You're not my father. Please be my father
-The Product does not fit into my old carrying case (a double gulp cup from 7-11 that has Vin Diesel on it (NOT fast & furios related))
-The Product does not fit into my briefcase (my briefcase is also a double gulp cup but this one is a Forrest Gump promotional item)
-The Product does not include a carrying case
-The Product is not a carrying case
-The Product is not a double gulp cup
-Carrying Case

I am hoping we can rectify this. A few suggestions:
-Free coupons
-Arthritis medication ( i'm out lol)
-Just admit that you slept  with my wife, you rat bastard, and I won't sock you right in the nose
-  take me out to lunch. your choice. I like picnics too. lunchables
- Provide me with a Nachos-Themed Double Gulp cup (please include UPC so that I may purchase refills of Nacho Cheese at 7-11)

no, no MX boards left. waiting on gh60 + zeal switches. i'll probably build that up and sell it pretty quick though. working on an alps 60% project.
i love potatoes in nearly all forms. au gratin is not my favorite.

heck i don't know why that's the name of the blog post, i don't think i've ever even HAD cherry sherbert. i haven't had ANY kind of sherbert in probably 15 years. i should track some down.

hey, i'm going to ireland tomorrow, how neat is that? it's probably going to be raining the whole time. i oughtta buy a rain coat... there's 200 bucks down the drain. clothes are expensive in holland :( i think i'll go to cork (yeeeee), maybe limerick, tryna check out the cliffs of moher since i didn't do that last time, and maybe a day in galway. i'm going with my gf and a friend of ours. should be a great time!!! plus beer is pretty cheap there, especially compared to here (under 4 euros for a pint, heeeyyyy).

Season 2 or 3?

The mystical ending of season 2 killed it for me, first time I'm stopping a show while it's still airing. If you're talking about S3 finale, I'm so happy about my choice. S1 was killer tho.

Futurama before the reboot is amazing. Just didn't find it as good in later seasons though.
I also love the Simpsons up till about season 14/15. Seasons 3-9 have some of the best episodes ever though.

We need to bring awareness to how important snacks are in the office. Helping some dingus configure their printer? Grab a snack while you talk them through it! In a meeting, or on an important conference call? You better believe it! Grab a snack! There are truly infinite reasons to snack.

Stay stocked, and #snackstrong

I'm surprised that IPv6 hasn't had more backing from the industry.

If they had started selling only network gear capable of IPv6 several years ago the problem would be a lot less than it is now.

It's not like if you ignore it then it will go away, and it's not vague like Y2K was, it's specific, and the expiry date could, and was, estimated.

Now that it has arrived, what are people going to do about it?

IPv4 is definitely here, for those who have their addresses already.

But for anyone else wanting to join the club, they are now officially out of luck.

If they go IPv6 now instead of IPv4, at least half the world will not be able to find them.

It's like saying petrol will run out in 20 years, start switching to electric cars now.  People won't.  They'll just keep driving their petrol cars around with petrol getting more and more expensive, until it finally runs out.  Then cars will probably be abandoned at the road side wherever they run out of petrol.

whoa!!! nice. that sounds awesome. last christmas my girlfriend took me to the observatory where we live and we got to see a supernova -- that was pretty cool but i would love to check out something closer!
How is your night??
it's morning now :( i live in europe atm. just chugging coffee and trying to wake up!!

Did you grow up in Bellingham?

as a matter of fact yes i did. i haven't been to canada since i was 10 though (not including flying out of vancouver) -- i ended up having to work on my 19th birthday so i didn't make the run like most people, and i had friends before I turned 21 who liked to hang out and drink at home as much as they liked the bar so they were always around to drink with. never had the need to get drunk in Vancouver although i wish i had at least once!

yes  also extremely weird that an american would prefer an american layout, no?  :)) iso would drive me nuts :(

although it is pretty weird/interesting that of all the countries i could have possibly moved to, i ended up in the one EU member state that uses ANSI. serendipity i suppose.

you guys!!!

i dont really have it in me for a FULL ON BLOG POST today because my job is killing me
i have some neat stuff to look forward to -- alps 60 is coming along! i need to find a Sweet Ass Case To Put It INTO - nobody makes a beige case right now. how stupid is that? beige rules. beige > all. beige overalls. beige.
anyone else buiding an alps 60? what are your plans?
i'll be doing one matias quiet tactile board and one with undecided switches. i found a Real Rare set of complicated linear browns but the Alps police will arrest me if i desolder them for a custom. also i don't really like linears. these ones are okay though. but i'd prefer some tactile browns with the weirdo tactile leaf (not the standard 1pc metal tactile leaf -- check out DT wiki for more info). that or maybe taxi yellow? i dunno. clicky switches get on my nerves and clicky alps feel weird to me. these linear browns ARE pretty cool. who knows if i'd get used to linears though.

as i said earlier my job is killing me. sometimes i just wanna walk out the door. sometimes i want to go take a nap. most of the time i dont caaaaaaaaaare. i have a headache.
one upside to my job! i just got an ssd in my work machine. sofast - after my bootloader starts, my framebuffer resizes and i have a login prompt immediately. sofast. wow. that's neat. whatever.

still waiting on my FRICKIN GH60. where the hell are my plates? come the frug on already, this is stupid. got zeals on oreder too. gonna put this dumb thing together and test the zeals, then probably sell it because alps. aaaaalps. palp some alps. GET N OR GET ALP

HALP

 NEW BLOG POST: project idea

you guys!! making stuff together is so cool. but it's really unorganized.
how do people like the idea of a site dedicated to custom keyboard resources? maybe starting as a jump-off point for PCB/matrix design, free/open source firmwares, plate resources etc? it would be so dang cool to have build guides, walk throughs and other sorts of tutorials as well but that is not really my domain Tee Bee H.

would anyone be seriously interested in contributing to something like this? let me know :thumb:

new blog post: a fancy strikes me

you guys! a fancy has stricken me. i should have a Blog Related Giveaway. i have a fairly cool think to Give A Way but i'm not sure exactly how i should give it its way. a contest, perhaps? to give you an idea, the thing is Cherribly Related and is about One Honderd And Fifty US Banknotes' Worth of Valuability.

spoiler alert: it's a frickin keyboard

there are a few reasons i want to give it away but the biggest one is that my coworker is currently using it (it IS mine but he's using it) and it has loud-ass cherry MX greens. i hate that it is in my office. i hate that it makes noise but most of all i hate the noise it makes. so basically, i have a pretty neat keyboard that i hate and i need a good way to get rid of it.

WHAT SAY YE? HOW SHALL I DOLE OUT THIS PUNISHMENT THAT IVE BEEN GIVEN?! WHO WANTS A FREE KEYBOARD? HOW SHALT YE PROSTRATE YESLEF TO MINE

woof too much fantasy novelage. who has a good idea for a contest that's not something like "post a picture of yourself doing X thing" or "who wants to give sth a click clack" or "who is a cool dude because we REALLY need another thread about cool dudes, thats definitely the way to combat the negativity surrounding this community while also distancing myself from the stupid **** i have done in order to make a profit" ?

"2 GIRLS, 1 CUPRUBBER"
(Guest Blog Post Inspired By sth's Title)

I have natural tits
I have felt fake tits at a strip club on a 40 year old hot af milf
I didn't just feel them
She basically begged me to fondle for a solid minute after I told her I was considering getting some new ones when I get older
Now that you are partially erect let me tell you how this relates to keyboards

A stock HHKB is like nicely sized, young real boobs
A 55g realforce is like big ass fake titties
I like the soft feel of a HHKB that has just the right amount of soft bounce-back and a really soft landing
Real tits aren't always so perfectly perky and I just like the way they sit on a woman
The 55g with the plate is more solid feeling, harder to press, and it feels like you just can't get the right squeeze without a harsh bottom out
Most fake tits are just too round and too pointy
There is nothing wrong with either but each boy and girl has their own preference

I have not tried 55g transplanted into a HHKB yet but I'm always open to experimentation
Just like the stripper I'd love for someone to share their fake tits on a HHKB so I can feel them up
Perhaps I will convert my HHKB to 55g when I'm recovering from upgrading my boobies to 55g in a few years
Hopefully later than sooner

To sum it up
I love boobies and topre
I'm straight as can be and I still am fascinated with titties

abswyfe: thank u for guest posting.
i also have not tried 55g hhkb (maybe once a while ago, couldn't tell much of a difference). i may have tried a 55g RF but i forget.

i have never felt a stripper's boobs of any kind! strip clubs are wild as hell and i won't be too bummed if i die without visiting one.  but now i'm curious about fondling fake boobs, purely for the tactile experience.

Absyrd tells me that you sorta tell when they rub them on your face if the stripper is a good one
He has never really grabbed onto fake ones as that is a no-no at the clubs we go to
I suppose we could try to make a behind-the-scenes deal with a willing stipper so he can feel them before we "invest" haha

cant you get him a private dance? i thought things were a little more liberal in the back room if you throw the right kind of cash around
i guess it depends on the state you're going to clubs in too though huh?

NEW BLOG POST: B. LOG (THE B STANDS FOR BUILD)

you guys! i promised and now i deliver.
here's a very short build log of my Apple Enshortened Keyboard (AEK).
i will try to update this later with some of the issues I had but here's the ol' jist of it:

fig 1: bralps. with a yellow linear for the space. the yellow came off the board I got the bralps from. it's about 10g heavier than the browns.

fig 2: PCB. i already soldered the diodes on this a few weeks back. you can tell because i am a certified butcher with a soldering iron, and i dont clean my iron tip enough. dirty tip.

fig 3: the plate. this was a custom jobby designed by jdcarpe with a split backspace. it's 3mm matte acrylic or something. kinda flexy, not a big deal when the switches are mounted to a PCB.

fig 4: the case. one of those vortex massdrops jobbies. not my favorite for AEK caps because it leaves a lot exposed on the sides. other than that i actually really like this case - very simple, pretty heavy, no frills. frills are dumb.

fig 5: the most important part. dont not drink and solder.

fig 6. what, you wanted pictures for every switch? c'mon. here it is with all the switches mounted and soldered. deal with it.

fig 7. closer upper. dat yella

as mentioned, there were some issues with the stabilizers. alps switches and stabs are designed for what, like, 1mm plates? metal guys. i have a 3mm plastic plate. that means things dont really snap into place as they're supposed to. not a huge deal for the switches (although you have to be careful when soldering because the switches may not be pressed down all the way) but for stabilziers it's an issue.
what i ended up doing is using a knife to cut off the plate-clip parts of the wire clips, then dabbing a bit of hot glue around the sides of the wire clips. then i quickly pressed them into place in the stabilizer mounts on the plate.  hot glue is good becase you can easily remove it. the softness of the glue helps as a friction fit more than the tackiness keeps it stuck to the plate.

i will hurt u

Guest Blog Appearance time again!
"MIGRAINES SUCK ****!"

If you've never had a migraine don't even try to tell me you've experienced this pain or that pain
No way to compare
Migraines literally suck ****
It is like getting skull ****ed by hellraiser's cock
You want to sleep but can't really get rest
You want to puke but it just hurts to hurl
You can't see straight
Everything smells funny

I go to a world renown headache center and I still have 1 a week
And the meds knock you off your ass and often don't work
Gotta swallow pills 4 times a day, take rescue meds orally, shoot **** up my nose, and stab myself in the leg
Even from the best docs I get crap
And they think 1 a week is success
Success will be migraine free for at least 5 years
Then they can start saying that ****

i never had migraines but my stepmom and stepbrother get them pretty often, sounds horrible

they smoke weed to deal with them (among other remedies), but i dont know how much that works for my brother or if that was just an excuse for him to smoke when he was younger

you guys!! don't you hate it when you're hungering? and when you need to eat? here is my solution to the problem. step one is to eat food. step two is to digest it (this is important).

hey. who remembers the mystery key cap mystery? did anyone find out the identity of myster mystery? did they ever come forward? i am curious. pm me if you have any details because i would like to write another blog post about this for my keycap lore series.

damn. i could really go for some hash browns right now

my favorite meal (besides burritos and nachos) is a big plate of hash browns, some veggie sausage and scrambled eggs (especially if they're cooked in a pot and not just pan scrambled like an ommelete, but either way is still great), with ketchup and covered in crystal/tabasco. i love mexican hot sauce but i usually prefer vinegary stuff for breakfast food.

My family looks at me odd when I put ketchup on my hashbrowns for some reason. I think they are quite odd that they would it it without, I'll need ot add some hot sauce to mine next time I whip up a batch.

Is ketchup not as popular in Europe, sth? Or is that just some kind of misconception? Maybe I've watched pulp fiction one too many times.

I get a line from a song stuck in my head while I'm walking, and I just keep repeating it to myself and walking in rhythm with it.

I also think that's the first time I've used the word "rhythm" on GH.

Ketchup is pretty big in the motherland, but on the continent it's less common. Though I think that's largely because the British diet is pretty diffrent.

i actually prefer hashbrowns with just salt, pep and hot sauce but i end up mixing everything together if i get them with eggs and stuff. but yeah man, tabasco on hashbrowns is great.

pulp fiction is on the money when it comes to fries. people kinda look at me weird when i get patat met ketchup.
in fact, if you translate the words, it means fries with ketchup -- but if you just order 'patat met', the literal translation is 'fries with' but in practice it means 'fries with mayonnaise'. /
i hate fries with mayonnaise. i hate mayonnaise, except a little on sandwiches. it grosses me out otherwise.

thankfully you can still get bottles of heinz here... i shouldn't even say i like ketchup, i like heinz ketchup. hunt's will do in a pinch.

i should do a "sth's american breakfast" post. my gf and i do "american breakfast" a few times a month which is just potatoes in some form, veg sausage, eggs and coffee. perfection.

new guest blog post: what is your alarm snooze interval set to?

mine is set to three minutes. I need to get myself out of bed and into a shower asap or i'll never leave

how about you guys
Title: Re: sth's blog
Post by: madhias on Fri, 12 February 2016, 09:25:40
I generally get out of bed after the second or third ring. When going to work I would not need an alarm snooze, because of waking up automatically more or less at the same time. But when I am drunken, or was drunken the day before, I need a long time to get up, or don't even wake up when the alarm rings for minutes.

before i used to hit snooze like 3 or 4 times, but then i figured i could use that time for more actual sleep.  so now my alarm is set for a bit later, and i get up after the second alarm.

I don't, and I've got a really annoying alarm sound so I have to get up to turn it off to stop it annoying me.

new blog post: pinball

you guys!!
i like pinball. do you? i found a couple machines in the town i live in. there's a lost in space (sega) at a fast food place and i feel weird staying there for more than like 30 minutes, but they do sell beers.

the machine sucks, i dont know if its just this one or the game is not very good in general. i dont really like sega/data east games but im sure there are a few good ones.

the other one i play a lot is in the lobby of a laser tag place (with a bar!!!) - junk yard, which is an awesome machine!

a few things are broken, like the toilet and the magic van, but most of the high scoring modes dont need those to work perfectly. it's a really fun addictive game without a lot of frills, but it makes up for it in strategy.

i also go to rotterdam's dutch pinball museum sometimes.
they have some kickass machines and a handful of dumb ones like ORBITOR 1:

it's nutty. they have some modded machines:
super high tech updated Guns n Roses and a fully converted The Matrix machine based on the johnny mnemonic playfield:

and of course classics like the full size indiana jones, addams family, tales from the crypt. i've been playing a lot of cactus canyon there. it's got this rootin tootin rascal dude in the upper right that you have to hit in the face with pinballs. pow!

now i'm drinkin store brand wine and it's cool

also, i have to say i've never really thought about it, but there's a lot of switch technology in pinball machines!
typically, pinball machines use leaf spring switches for the cabinet buttons (those ones you slap):

but imagine my surprise when i discovered that Pinball 2000 machines (you know, Revenge from Mars! they had a star wars Episode 1 machine that is less common as well) use cherry MX blacks for the cabinet switches!
[here's the schematic illustration i found in the operators manual, cute little mx drawing!
here's the button-side of the assembly followed by the inside where you can see the PCB and the bottoms of the MX switches:

small world, huh? and hey, if pcb-mount is good enough for a pinball machine it oughta be good enough for a keyboard
