Sorry if this is a silly question, are we required to purchase the parent deal to get the add-ons? I just want the novelty pack.

Nice set design, congratulations, I just do not have an ALPS board now, otherwise I'd jump on the buy immediately.Buy a set for when you do have an alps board :)

It is so tempting; but, I just fell in love with my recent modded GON with my own version of Ergo Clears and vintage Cherry caps, that I'd feel unfaithful with, if I'd go for an ALPS now. I am sure you have been in my shoes.

Pictars and detailz plz :D
Being a SP set I assume the big keys will use Cherry-mount stems for stabilizers, am I right?

Yes, the main pack is required. It says that on the order form, but I didn't see it in the OP.
FYI, most community-run GBs used to do this in the past. If you were a collector of those novelties, you had to buy in to the GB (and help us meet MOQ) in order to collect your caps.

For blanks, is Row 1 or 4 the bottom row?
Holy cannoli you did it! :D I'm just about to dive right in, but I have a dumb question because I'm a weenie and don't understand haha. When you say we can apply for different MOQ's does that mean we are commiting to that price range and should that price range not happen we wouldn't get the kit? And lets say we put "1" in all three MOQ's, do you add all three of those up as three separate kits, or would we get the lowest one? I read on the form we get the lowest price, but I was just unsure haha.
Thanks again for doing this GB! You are an Alps angel njbair! :thumb:

Yes, if you sign up for 1 set for the $75 MOQ and it isn't reached, you would not get the kit. If you sign up for 1 at $50, 1 at $75, and 1 at $100, you are signing up for 3 kits. If the $50 MOQ is met you will get all three kits at $50. If the $75 MOQ is met you will get two kits at $75. If only the $100 MOQ is met, then you would get one kit at $100.
A couple of fun updates to share...
Alpine Winter is featured on KeyChatter! Thanks, livingspeedbump! Check it out (https://www.keychatter.com/2015/09/25/whats-clacking-hardwood-60-case-on-massdrop-along-with-104u-realforce-alpine-winter-alps-group-buy-and-more/).
Major milestone update: We have met or exceeded the 50% mark for all three MOQs! That means that in less than two days' time, we're already halfway there. We are also well past the halfway marks for all three spacebar add-on packs (60-80%), and the novelty pack has blown past MOQ at 144%.

Just kidding. I'm already way post my MOQ and yours still needs a little love. :p
But in all seriousness, if your GB doesn't pass I'm going to start cracking skulls.

I'm zero worried at this point, so far signups have been waaaay higher than I expected, and I've got a longer deadline than your buy.
I have a little question about blanks.Yes, 25 each. But I'm going to try really hard to see that they get made.
All combinations of these colors sizes and rows has individual MOQ?
Could you do me a favor and make sure i added a novelty pack and a aek2 bar to my order?Yep, I have you down for both.

You may have seen some of thesiscamper's work in his Joker/Eva IC thread. As soon as I saw his keyboard renders I knew I had to have some for Alpine Winter!
Be sure to view these renders full-size and check out the extreme detail. And if you need any 3D work done, I highly recommend him. He's friendly and courteous, and his prices are very fair.

@njbair: Which Alps mount will SP use as the standard for molding the keycap stems to fit Alps-mount switches? The reason I ask is that I ran into some issues fitting caps from some vintage boards into mounts on Matias switches. The caps would appear to fit, but in some cases the stem was slightly too large for the mount, which apparently caused enough expansion to cause the switch to bind.SP is not making any new tooling for this set, so fitment should be the same as their existing Alps caps. I have some DSA Alps PBTs from an Infinity kit and they are tight in Matias switches, but DSA are always tight since they were designed for industrial applications.

I've got Badwrench's mods coming in the mail this week, so I'll be able to try out DCS Alps caps on Matias switches. I'll get back to you then.
My recommendation is to take a spare switch or old board and mount each cap once. It removes any flashing. I found that after being mounted once and removed, the caps were much easier to mount and remove.@njbair: Which Alps mount will SP use as the standard for molding the keycap stems to fit Alps-mount switches? I forgot, I actually bought an Alps keyboard from the classifieds last week, and it came with a DCS "GEEK HACK" keycap. It arrived this morning, and I was able to check the fitment with a Matias switch on my Infinity keyboard. I'd say it's just right; not to loose, not too tight.
Alps caps are a bit harder to remove in general versus MX. I find the best way to get them off is to rock them side to side while applying slight upward force. Using a long-handled key puller, this motion looks like moving from left to right over and over again on an Atari joystick, if that helps illustrate what I mean.
Side to side rocking is a good way to break the cap stem. It's harder, but a straight pull is what I recommend. Only rock if you have to.Listen to this guy not me.

I'm thinking the blanks are a bit lower because the base set does so much. It's a first world problem, I presume.
I'd buy some blanks, but since the base will support any layout I can imagine I'd want...I haven't.
Orders have slowed down a bit after the weekend (as was expected), but we are looking good for 5 days into the buy. Were 84% of the way to 50 sets, and 66% of the way to 100!
The interest in ala carte blanks has been a little lower than I had expected...We've still got a long while until the buy closes on October 24, so hopefully the orders for blanks pick up so that everybody can get what they want. I'm working with Signature Plastics to figure out the best way to make that happen.

Kind of a shame there are no 2u keys, otherwise there could have been more interest in blanks from the Planck/Atomic crowd.
Just checking. If I sign up for the 50 MOQ and the 100 MOQ is reached, I would be charged for the 100 MOQ price -- correct?Correct. Unless you want to pay me more!
Hey njbair, I just submitted a new form for:No problem. I'll know to combine them. Thanks!
19 Blue 1U, Row 1
3 Blue 1U, Row 2
4 Blue 1U, Row 4
I hope that didn't complicate anything.
In case anyone is wondering why I ordered 26 blanks (which is probably nobody), I plan on using the blanks to get full coverage on a TKL keyboard. It only costs $19 more and I could have saved a little more since the kit already comes with two row 4 1u blanks. Yes, I know this is supposed to be a 60% GB but I like to be creative. :DGB leaders generally don't hate people for spending more money.
I might order 8 row 1 grey blanks for the F1-F4 and F9-F12 keys to see if I like one looks over the other - but that depends on if njbair will hate me for submitting yet another order form. :))

I was actually wondering what poeple are going to be doing with all the blanks. I didn't realize you could specify the row you wanted. Even so, there are some sizes which aren't available, so I assume you are just going to use regular keys with legends for those. The escape, F keys, arrow keys, insert, delete, print screen, etc will all be blanks while the alphas and modifiers will be the regular keys from the gb. Actually now that I think about it I'll probably put a sadster on the escape key :)

Does Signature Plastics do SA with Alps stems? I honestly don't know the answer to this.
Either way, this will be the first community-run group buy for a full set of Alps keycaps, so it's already the first of its kind.
Hmm. I would love to have a set of uniform Row 3 SA caps mounted on some clicky white Alps switches. I can't think of a better cap style for those crunchy whites.

Is there a way to order extra 6.2u space bars in grey?
I didn't add that as an option because it's a standard size so not as hard to find as the others.
My advice is to hit up this thread and see if anyone who is planning on using this set with an Infinity or AEK layout is willing to sell you their 6.2U gray spacebar.
I can make a note to include someone else's spacebar with your order. Is there a way to order extra 6.2u space bars in grey?

Good call. :thumb: I'll make a post when delivery time is closer.
There have been a few mentions of adding 2U blanks to this buy, and I was reluctant because that's a lot of extra MOQs (4 rows x 2 colors = 8 MOQs). But if I were to add just gray row 4 2U caps, would anyone else be interested in that? This would allow you to build a planck with a 2U spacebar.
Of course, if you've already ordered I can add this to your order.

Hey Nick just wondering what you think the turnaround time for this keyset will be - I know SP is completely backup on SA keysets but I'm guessing DCS should be pretty normal wait times right?DCS lead time was about six weeks at the time I posted the OP, I'm assuming it's still pretty close to that. Although that puts us right into the middle of the holidays, so there may be some delays here and there, depending on how long invoicing takes and how the seasonal shipping rush affects things.

My guess is you'll have the caps by mid-December.
So October 24 the buy closes. Figure invoicing takes about a week, that's Halloween, a Saturday, so the order goes in on Monday, November 2. Six weeks later is December 14, I should be able to get the caps out by the following Monday, the 21st.Hey Nick just wondering what you think the turnaround time for this keyset will be - I know SP is completely backup on SA keysets but I'm guessing DCS should be pretty normal wait times right?DCS lead time was about six weeks at the time I posted the OP, I'm assuming it's still pretty close to that. That is a tight timeline. Depending on how things go with the MOQs, I may start invoicing during the last week of the buy just to speed things up. There will be some folks, I'm sure, who can't pay until the 1st or whatever. But if I get a good chunk of the funds in hand before then, I will place the order as soon as the buy is closed.
Guys, we're at 96% for the 50 MOQ, that means there are only two more spots to fill if you want a shot at those nubbinator caps!
We're also at 75% of the 100 MOQ, which is a great spot to be in with a few weeks left in the order window. I'm open to suggestions on how to help promote these caps. Please share your ideas!
And we're at 50!Yay! :thumb:

I think what Vinny was saying is this:
100 sales @ $70 = $700
$700 / MOQ 75 ($79) = 88.6 ~= 89 main kits.
So as soon as you have over $700 worth of money from the main kit sales, you could buy it at the lowest price, no? Sorry if that is totally naive :)
I'm not sure if that's what he meant, but you forgot a zero on that $7,000.
I'm not sure either. But right now the total to collect for base kits is less than $5K, even at the higher price point. He must have just gotten confused.I'm not sure if that's what he meant, but you forgot a zero on that $7,000.
Dang. I fixed that, thanks. I still think the maths works out though and it's the only way I can get to his number of 89 :)

Actually, two of those 50 are nubbinator and me, so there are actually still two spots left for the nubs raffle. Shoot me a PM if you want to change your order to the 50 mark and get one of the last two spots.

Well, nubbinator and I don't count, and you're #52, so yes you're in.

Quick and easy.
I think he means the actual announcement. He said it won't be before invoicing, so you won't be able to back out after you find out you didn't win, but he's not sure how to do it. Just post a list on the forum like you said, send out letters in the mail announcing, or have a parade with fireworks, etc.
(assuming I'm interpreting both your message correctly :)) )
Hoff is right. I meant the nature of the announcement. Some folks might prefer a surprise when they open their box. I kind of like that idea myself.
How close are we to the 75 mark?
How close are we to the 75 mark?
15 orders.
I don't get how we're closer to 100 than 75... That's gotta be some advanced level math.
Nope... Not getting it... But it doesn't matter, I'm used to it.
OK, I got it now. I didn't consider that the numbers for 75 were so low.
Well, now that we know the caps are being made the thresholds don't matter as much. They still matter. Because right now only 54 sets are guaranteed to be made. The 75 and 100 people still need 15 or so more people to join before they'll get their caps. So if you're joining at this point you need to evaluate how badly you want these. If you don't want to risk your caps on 14 other people's decisions, you still have to join at 50 and just hope that the price makes it down to $70 by the end.
There is also the group that says "I'd be willing to pay $79 or less for a set, but not $94." :)
Also, I don't think I announced it officially, but I did end up adding 2U row 4 gray blanks to the list. So if you've already ordered but want a spacebar for your Alps Planck, or maybe some modifiers for your Ergodox, PM me and I'll add them to your order.
I think what Vinny was saying is this:
100 sales @ $70 = $7,000
$7,000 / MOQ 75 ($79) = 88.6 ~= 89 main kits.
So as soon as you have over $7,000 worth of money from the main kit sales, you could buy it at the lowest price, no? Sorry if that is totally naive :)
EDIT: missed some zeros when transcribing, the maths still checks out though... I think.
That's precisely what I meant, but now I see that I worded it in a pretty confuse way.
Are you seriously asking the highest price tier people to subsidize the costs so that those unwilling to pay more don't have to? I want this set to happen, but that just establishes a ****ed up precedent.

Ok I'm confused. Is the structure not like a Massdrop buy where the pricing changes depending on who joins and when things tip? Or am I locked in at the $94/set?
Can someone please clarify that once the quantity ordered reaches the next price bracket that everybody who is purchasing gets the same price?

Thanks for clearing it up - I was just reading through Hoff and Nubb's posts and got a bit confused
PSA: anyone who wants to pay extra, I'll talk to nubbinator about getting some of those Hoff Noodz for you.
To anyone who is in for one set at 50 MOQ ($94): please consider adding a second set at 100 MOQ ($70)?

Yup...Posts 184, 188-190 were confusing. Thanks njbair.

Yeah sorry about that. I was basically just saying "no, that doesn't make sense and is not how this will be done."
What's the going rate for noodz? I have an infinite supply. :3
OFFICIAL STATEMENT: Everybody pays the lowest price depending on the MOQ we hit. So if you committed at $94 but we reach 100 sets, you only pay $70.
This is just like any other group buy in that sense. I'm not sure where the other ideas came from but it's just making things confusing so let's put it to rest.

I have also thought of doing this, but I will wait for the inevitable late minute rush first.
I have also thought of doing this, but I will wait for the inevitable late minute rush first.
But if everyone waits for the last minute rush... then there is no last minute rush.
If you feeling like going in for another set at 100MOQ, do it straight away! I'm going to assess my finances this evening and decided.
But if everyone waits for the last minute rush... then there is no last minute rush.
I'm happy just to be in the 50 MOQ tier. It's a fair price to pay for the SECOND community driven alps keycap buy.
Mind you, I don't feel a need to order 2 sets of Alpine Winter, but I do sincerely hope that this will result in more community alps buys.

Corrected it since it's the second real Alps buy, the first for a full set though.

Whats the best way to add something, seeing as I already submitted the form once? Already feeling the regret of not stocking up on spacebars :)Just PM me. I'll update your order.
I was thinking up a reason to buy blanks, but now I can't remember what my plan was.I'm buying blanks for a possible future Planck build.
Hey, any plans for a 1.75x blank or fn key?Nope. Haven't had any interest in one. What layout are you thinking of?

standard ansi, but i replaced the caps lock key on my v60 with fn.
also, since i rarely use/check geekhack, would it be better to put my reddit username in the gb form?

so triple checking, only 1.75x keys are ctrl, bs, and shift?Ctrl, Caps and Shift. There's no 1.75 backspace. And BTW, the 1.75 Shift is in a different row profile than the Caps Lock key.

Daaaaamn. Guess i'll just be getting modifiers somewhere else then :(

more like i'll be buying only blanks and then sourcing other pieces from mechmarket later... my wallet simply cannot handle this :(
We only need 12 more... Anybody have rich family members? :))
Don't worry, everyone. I've got an announcement to make this weekend. Hang tight!
Awesome news, Alps fans. Thanks to a big order from a reseller, we're all set to tip the 100 MOQ!
I can't give any details at this time (per the reseller's request), but the order is for 15 sets, which as of this writing puts us at 105 base kits sold!
I'll be updating the order form shortly, but rest assured this is a committed order.
We did it, guys! 100 Alps keycap sets! Woohoo!!!

My guess is one of the smaller ones. Not OLKB or MK, but something like TechKeys or Feng...Speculate away. I guarantee nobody will guess.
I'm just bored literally waiting for paint to dry so I can do another layer.Do you have your furnace fan running? That helps a lot.
Sort of. A hot air pump, no idea what it's called in English. It's a sort of aircon.Heat pump? (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heat_pump)

Now it's time for us all to join the Monarch buy.
Excellent news about the MOQ!! :D I wasn't particularly looking forward to the price at the lower MOQs, despite still being committed ( :thumb: ), so this is very welcome news. :)Indeed. Although many of us who were committed are both the lower and higher tiers, are now officially spending more.
Also, moar Alps for everyone! Yeeeeeee!
Fantastic news! But we can do better! Let's keep this ALPS party going!
Dumb, repetitive question time. How do I check my order? I'm not sure if I ordered space bars.Just PM me with what you want and I'll either confirm you ordered it, or add it to your order.
Doors! My dog is now old enough to have stopped scratching them when he wants to go outside, now he just stands in front of me and looks at me until I get the hint. But the doors look awful, so I had to paint the worst of them.Sort of. A hot air pump, no idea what it's called in English. It's a sort of aircon.

I have used 100% keyboards most of my life. I'm ready for a change! Winter is coming!
60% keyboards 100% of the time.
60% keyboards 100% of the time.
Isn't that Binge's signature?
Fantastic news! But we can do better! Let's keep this ALPS party going!
Agreed. I'm personally eager to see some folks get creative with the blanks offerings. I worked out an ErgoDox layout for someone based on what's already available, but I'm not sure about the best row profiles to use for some of the weird keys:
http://www.keyboard-layout-editor.com/#/gists/a1e7c87848951f52ec00 (http://www.keyboard-layout-editor.com/#/gists/a1e7c87848951f52ec00)
Any ErgoDox users want to chime in? Specifically, I'm wondering which profiles to use for the vertical 1.5U keys along the centers, and for the keys in the thumb clusters. The only 2U option for Alpine Winter is R4 Gray, so that decision is made for us.
Light blue are just "ghosted" because the base kit already provides suitable keys for those spots. But if you want a consistent look you can get blanks all around. The 1.5U blue keys are available in all four rows, as are the 1U keys.Fantastic news! But we can do better! Let's keep this ALPS party going!

I like you ergodox solution - I assume the light blue keys are ones that haven't tipped?
I'd really like to cover my ergodox so I'm willing to make compromises like duplicating rows on the 1.5u keys where I have to.
Did you calculate the cost of your mock-up there?
This has been an awesome group buy. From the interest check where we started from an ugly purple and orange mockup (no offense njbair) to E3E casually suggesting his blue and white/gray color scheme; and geniekid, the name Alpine Winter is genius. Oh and don't forget the one that suggested to use nubbinator's Alps legend ;). I think what made this GB great was all the feedback you took into consideration like legend colors, fn keys, and even 2u blanks! So really, thanks for coordinating this GB. I'm sure it took a lot of work up to this point and there is still a lot of work ahead so I really appreciate it! ;D

When we all agree'd on Romer-G profile, we also agreed on nipples for the homing keys, right?
That spun off into a separate thread. AFAIK they decided the set should come with no homing keys at all. It's too sensitive a topic and we want Alpine Winter to be a trigger-safe keyset.

Hey, folks. I know it's really late but I have some great news. We're going to be able to lower some prices! Here's the rundown:Awesome news! Savings are savings and it underlines what a success this set was in terms of MOQ.
6U & 6.5U spacebar packs were $7/ea., now $5/ea.
Novelty packs were $7/ea., now $5/ea.
Blank 1U caps were $.07/ea., now $0.60 (some even cheaper).
It's not much, but it's something!
In other news, I've also finalized shipping costs for CONUS orders so I can begin sending out invoices in the morning. Taking a cue from other wise GB leaders, I'm going to invoice shipping separately for non-US orders. I'll send out international shipping invoices once the caps are packed up and ready to ship. That way I can provide exact package weights.

International shipping is a *****, just ask Massdrop - they keep listing 30 USD to send me tiny things like full-size keyboards or over-the-ear headphones! Should be easy to slip in an envelope if you ask me...
And with that, all invoices have been sent! If you do not receive your invoice via email, let me know ASAP.
Paid :)
With the 30 days invoicing period does that mean the order will not be sent off until end of November?

Sorry if I missed it, but what type of homing f/j marks will the set have. Saw that it was what was standard for DCS but I'm not sure what that is - spikes, bars, or scoops?

Spikes... you must really not like homing dots, or nipples as the popular term seems to be. :))
The set will use homing bars! :thumb:
Glad to hear bars. Just put my new modern selectric on my KUL and with the nerve damage in my hands I gotta say nibbles, dot ps, pungy sticks - not a fan.

Ordering for Alpine Winter is closed, but I am personally ordering a small number of extra numpad kits for Monarch builds. If the Monarch doesn't get made this time around, I'll keep them handy for whenever (and if) koalapear decides to rerun it.

So if I were to join the Monarch Group Buy this Friday and choose the option in that order form for a blank Alpine Winter set would it not produce an order? If not I would contact Koalaspear and maybe have that option removed from the google form for the remainder of that GB, as to avoid confusion. If however it's separate and does process an additional order then disregard that.
Okay. I will have a few extra numpad kits to cover Monarch orders. When the Monarch GB is done, koalapear will forward the numpad orders to me and I will make sure they get shipped with the Alpine Winter base kits. If koalapear has to call off the Monarch GB due to lack of interest, nobody will have to pay for numpad kits and I will shelf the kits I ordered for a possible future re-run. But you will still get the AW base kit that you ordered.
Help sort caps? I thought we were just going to go for a swim in them :(.
Thanks everyone for your kind words. It wouldn't be a group buy without some kind of spanner in the works. And as Zealousy stated, it will be here before you know it.

Hmm. I am kinda interested in helping with sorting, I've always wanted to see more of Cleveland and meet another keyboard geek. However, I'll be in France for Christmas time, so I don't think I could make it (humble brag).
Anyways, have fun with the new house!

Also you're close to Cedar Point.

Nice guy, I would probably extort as much profit as possible on the unpaid extras.
From my perspective, it's either sell them quickly or float the cost indefinitely until someone is willing to pay inflated prices. I've got other things to spend money on than a bunch of extra cap sets, especially since I'm already buying three personal sets of AW plus blanks for an Ergo Dox and a Planck (neither of which I even own yet).those of us that do not enjoy roller coasters

Okay, folks. We've got some unpaid extra sets available. If you missed out on the order window, now's your chance to score some Alps goodness! Here's what's available:
Base kits $70
6U Spacebar kits (Infinity) $5
6.5U Spacebar kits (AEKII) $5
Novelty kits $5
To order, just shoot me a PM with the items & quantities you want, your shipping address, and email for invoicing.

I'm now offering a Snapchat and Periscope subscription for the cap sorting party at njbair's. We're going to sip on the finest, swim in keycaps, and generally talk **** about all things not Alps related. $5 to lolno@gmail.net.
In slightly more related news, I'll probably make a mini-zine (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=70769.0) with pics from the cap sorting party.

I can do January, but not late December, unless my Christmas travel plan are affected. I'll need something to look forward to in January, winter in the Midwest has a tendency to darken my soul.
Just wanted to check in and see how things are going with this one.My last communication with SP was on November 23. Melissa was just double-checking some details for the add-on packs, presumably because they were getting ready to start churning out keycaps.
The good news is, I should be settled in to the new house by that time. The bad news is, I may not end up having the help I expected for sorting and packing. We'll see what happens. As we get closer to the six week mark, I'll start bugging SP for a more specific delivery estimate. This will help me make plans for sorting, packing and shipping.
Don't sweat it, CPT. We'll make it work. I think viva and Hoff may be able to help, depending on timing.
Damn, I wish I wasn't -10339 miles away from Cleveland.

In the meantime, I'm getting the packing supplies figured out. I already bought a big roll of bubble wrap. We're using it to pack our plates for the move, and I've still got a ton of it left for shipping orders.

I'm grateful for any help I end up with. Worst case scenario I'll have to box up about 130 sets on my own, could be worse.

I'm old enough to remember Bone Thugs 'n' Harmony (I graduated in '99), but I don't think I could name even one of their songs. My buddies and I were listening to and making punk rock at that time.

I have always characterized Indiana as the place you pass through on your way to somewhere else.
But don't get me started in Ohio's obsession with being the birthplace of flight...

Breh. Birthplace of flight. Wright brothers are from Ohio. Which IMO is more important than where they happened to do the flying - but that's just me. ;)
Also there were more presidents born or raised in Ohio than any other state.
It's also got the only non-rectangular state flag.
I did a report on Ohio in 5th grade.

Yes, they did. :D
My grandfather had driven from Ohio in a Model T (this was in the late 1930's), and he sold it for the salvage value, $10, when he got to Texas. He bought a cowboy hat for -- you guessed it $10. They worked on a ranch near Junction, TX for about a year, then they hitchhiked back to Ohio. My grandfather joined the Army Air Corps a couple years later when the war broke out, and was a P-47 pilot. Funnily enough, he did his pilot training in Brady, TX, and that's where he met and fell in love with my grandmother. She was about 14 or 15 at the time. After the war, he returned to Texas and married his true love. They are still together, and they now live in New Mexico. :)
My grandfather is a pretty smart fellow for a high school dropout.

Just checking in, since I haven't been on GH for about a week and I don't want anyone seeing my "last active" date and getting worried.
I just posted some IRL problems over in the What's Bothering You thread, related to a delay in our moving date and the loss of a close friend to a sudden heart attack, but rest assured neither of those will impact this buy. The funeral is already over and I don't expect to see the caps before our new move-in date anyway.
Thanks for the update njbair :). Sorry for your loss.
And my offer still stands if you still need help sorting caps at the end of January.

Not to be that guy, but will there be extra aek spacebars to buy?I ordered a few extras of certain pieces to cover error margins and stuff like that. If I end up with any extras I may sell them, but that will have to wait until all the GB orders are accounted for.

Lets see it! Especially with that beautiful blue plate
Sorting update: We are well underway with the sorting process. As a huge bonus, the base kits arrived pre-sorted. I had figured on receiving separate bags full of Q's, W's, E's, etc., and having to assemble all the base kits manually. It turns out SP already did that part for us, which is a huge time savings.
The bad news is, we've got some mistakes with the spacebar add-on kit orders. Long story short, none of the three add-on spacebar kits are complete. We only have the blue spacebars for the AEKII and Infinity add-on kits, and only the 6.25U for the blue add-on kits. I'll connect with SP via email shortly and get to the bottom of this. Rest assured, the order I placed was correct, and this fact is well-documented. So I expect SP to make good on this error ASAP, just as they did with Badwrench's modifiers.
The good news is, if you did not order any add-on spacebar packs your order will be assembled in full by the end of the day today, which means I can start shipping those orders early this week. If you ordered spacebar add-ons, I can ship your incomplete order as-is if you are willing to pay separate shipping for the add-ons later. It's extra work, but I know you guys are all getting your Alps Party boards in the mail right now and it seems silly to let a board sit there without caps because of some spare spacebars that you probably don't even need right away. If you want me to ship your spacebars later, shoot me a PM and I'll get you sorted out.
Finally, here's a quick video of our sorting setup:
Stay tuned later today for some glamour shots!!!

I got the HHKB plate but I wasn't sure when I could find a specific case for it, but that looks really good.I've had this acrylic TEX case for a while, this is the first build I've used it with that I actually like.

Thanks for the offer, but again, this is a simple vendor error which I fully expect SP to correct at no charge. Also, I don't have any extras, just incomplete sets.Sorting update: We are well underway with the sorting process. As a huge bonus, the base kits arrived pre-sorted. I'm surprised by how many people it seems went for the HHKB layoutI almost didn't get this layout. The idea of sacrificing 3 modifier keys on an already compact board always seemed silly to me. I had ordered a Dell ANSI kit (as a showpiece for standard keycap sets) and an Infinity kit (all the benefits of the HHKB layout without the missing keys), and I was fine with that. But the more I thought about it, I decided I really do like the look of the HHKB bottom row. It just has character.
Glad I did :)

I added a 3rd kit in the HHKB layout at the last minute, and since the plate would be more exposed in this one I got the powdercoat option as well. By the time the kits finally arrived, the HHKB was the one I was most excited about.
I already have a hasu Alps 60% from round 2 with one of nubbinator's AEKII plates and stock Apple keycaps. I also have two Infinities, one of them Alps. So I really didn't need another Alps 60%, but the HHKB called out to me.
I definitely think the HHKB layout is an incredibly aesthetically pleasing layout because of its symmetry, much like the WKL layout on vintage boards or TKL customs.
Any news on when shipping will occur?
...I can start shipping those orders early this week.
Any word on when you'll know how many extras you have? :)I don't have any extra sets. They are all accounted for.

The shades are a little brighter than I expected from the renders, but I'm not complaining.

Good news. As expected, SP is going to make good on the spacebar error and get them shipped out to me ASAP. Unfortunately I don't know exactly what "ASAP" means, but probably a couple of weeks.
Of the 96 orders placed, 49 are on hold waiting for the corrected spacebar add-on packs. Surprisingly, only two of those people have contacted me so far about shipping their partial orders early. If you want me to box up your partial order and send it out with the others this week, PM me ASAP. Just know that you will be responsible for separate shipping charges for the spacebars once they arrive.Any news on when shipping will occur?...I can start shipping those orders early this week.
Hey all. The group buy gods struck my whole family ill this week (including me) so I didn't pack or ship any orders.
The good news is, the replacement space bars came in. According to the job slips, two of the three missing sizes were produced around the same date as the others, but must have mistakenly been left out. The third one was produced on the 13th and then they expedited the shipping to me.
I didn't get a story, just a short message mentioning "confusion on the production floor." But they were dated late December, so I'm chalking it up to someone being on vacation before they actually left, if you catch my drift...Hey all. I'm wondering where they went if they were produced. Did they go on strike and walk out of the factory? Fall into an HVAC vent? Hibernate for the winter? There has to be a good story here regarding those spacebars.
UPDATE: We got the add-on spacebars sorted into sets today, and boxed up about 50 orders that are now ready to ship this week. I couldn't exactly go in join order, because the boxes I've got on hand were too small for multi-set orders. I've got larger boxes on order now for the remaining orders. I honestly thought I had more time, then the spacebars arrived more quickly than expected. Those boxes will arrive some time this week and I'll start packing the remaining orders and get them shipped ASAP.

He might be holding off on the Dollies and Fn caps. They're going out to him this weekend. Each one is a bit different since I was playing around instead of aiming for identical caps.
You're not alone. If you can figure out how to ship first class from the stupid USPS login, please let me know. I hate their website. Hang in there bud, we appreciate you and your shipping efforts. :D
I definitely think the HHKB layout is an incredibly aesthetically pleasing layout because of its symmetry, much like the WKL layout on vintage boards or TKL customs.
The actual HHKB isn't even symmetric though! :P (speaking mainly of the bottom row, which is usually adapted to be symmetric for MX boards)
It's not actually nubbinator's fault. It's just been a bunch of stupid little irritating things holding me up.
Firstly, as I already mentioned, I was sick last week. So this week I went on to Stamps.com to create my account (it's only free for the first 30 days so I didn't want to do it before I was ready to ship). That's when I found out that Stamps.com doesn't work on Linux. IT'S A WEBSITE GUYS. So I tried a user agent spoofer but still ran into issues. I tried a Windows VM but never got anywhere with getting the printer working. So I'm making arrangements to use the shipping scale and computer at work, but that restricts me schedule-wise. Who ever heard of a website that cares what OS you're using?
In the meantime, I got the bigger boxes in for the remaining orders, and I got about half of those packed up then ran out of bubble wrap. So I ordered more of that and it should be here on Monday.
Since most of the orders are sorted and boxed up, all that remains is weighing and labeling them. I'm trying my hardest to carve out the time to do that this week, but the evenings I had set aside for that earlier this week were wasted on the Stamps.com compatibility issue. And I have family obligations tomorrow and Saturday night.
I'm a bit frustrated because so far in this buy I felt like things were going so smoothly, and now all these stupid little uncontrollable speed bumps have come up and completely deflated my ego. Should I have anticipated the Stamps.com issue? Should I have done more to prepare while waiting for the caps to be produced, like estimating bubble wrap usage? Those don't sound like things a normal person would think to do. I guess just chalk it all up to lack of experience...
So I guess if I could get just one point across to you all, please just know that I am not just sitting on my hands over here. I'm working on getting these things out to you, and believe me it's on my mind all the time. You've all been incredibly patient so far, but I've been on the other side of the table and I know that while we all appreciate good communication, at some point you just want the stupid stuff to ship.
njbair, would you still want me to head up your way to help out?I appreciate the offer but the sorting is basically done. SP having all the base kits sorted and collated was a life saver.
Dollies and Fns are in the mail. There may be more than 5 sets that go out to people.

After some furnace trouble earlier this week, I've finally made some time tonight to make some shipping labels! I'm starting with the US orders. Then once I get all those labels created I'll do the international orders and send out invoices for international shipping. But the first wave of US orders will go out tomorrow.

In other news, I broke a stem yesterday while pulling caps. Fortunately it was a modifier key so I can steal a replacement from my other set which I'm pairing with Badwrench's mods.
PSA: Please, please take care removing these things, especially if you are new to Alps. DO NOT rock the key puller back and forth to jiggle the cap loose. Take your time and try to minimize your cap swapping. Take Badwrench's advice and use a loose Alps switch to break in each cap and remove any excess flashing before mounting to their final home. Remember, I do not have any spare sets or replacement keys.
I like the lube idea. I don't know how the epoxy would help, though. Seems to me like the middle opening could only help with wiggle room.In other news, I broke a stem yesterday while pulling caps. Ouch, that sucks. That's part of why I wish SP used a more robust solid stem with a chamfered lip.
And definitely want to reinforce that with pulling caps. The only time I have even broken a stem with Alps is when I've rocked the cap when pulling it. Just you a constant gentle pressure to pull it.
Filling the stem with epoxy putty and lubing the stem (like some people have done with MX Clears) might help if it seems like it's still a problem.

My logic there is that it flexes more which weakens it over time. I could be wrong with that, but it's what I've noticed.
So the first batch of orders made it out yesterday.
Can it be assumed that if you didn't get a pm, you probably weren't in the first batch?Yeah man you're like at the very end. I didn't get that far yet.
Is that a picture of one that has had the flashing filed down? Not quite sure what needs to be removed and how much.No actually that's an untouched cap, which I grabbed because I had it handy, just to show the support braces I was talking about in that post.

Have you shipped my package yet????? LOL
LOL. I'm totally just playing. I understand that shipping takes awhile and as I mentioned in the previous post, serves me right for being indecisive and buying at the last minute haha. Meanwhile I have another ALPS project keeping me occupied.
Moral of the story: Don't procrastinate haha.

Just boxed up and labeled another handful of orders. I also sent out tracking links for every one I've shipped. Check your inboxes. As always, it may take 24 hours for tracking links to update, but most of the links I sent out today were for orders that I dropped off yesterday afternoon. The rest are going to the post office today.
This puts us just over the halfway mark for shipping. I have another evening's worth of boxing & weighing to do, then I will be able to send out the remaining US orders and shift my focus to international.
For those wondering why I'm doing it this way, it's because international participants haven't been invoiced for shipping yet. I need the actual package weights before I can calculate shipping costs. US postage was easier to estimate since it doesn't change a whole lot based on the destination address. I just weighed similar keycap sets on a postage scale and used that as a reference to get postage rates to a dummy zip code (90210, of course). That means some of you US participants may have paid slightly less or more than your actual shipping (and as it happens, with the USPS' Jan. 17 rate change, pretty much all of you paid less than actual).
I figured this was the most efficient way to handle it without causing further invoicing delays. I'm not sure how other GBs have handled shipping, but it's hard when you don't have the actual product in front of you. I'm used to dealing with e-commerce sites with a catalog of products and fixed item weights, where you just query the UPS or FedEX API and get a shipping total based on the items in the customer's shopping cart and the seller's pre-negotiated shipping rates. It's more efficient because you program the software to handle it for you, but that method doesn't really scale down to a one-off group buy with <100 orders.
I don't think it's going to be that much of a difference, but I won't know where I ended up cost-wise until I've shipped all the US orders.Just boxed up and labeled another handful of orders. Sounds good. Would you like a couple $$ more for shipping?
I'm happy to contribute to covering the balance. There's no reason you should have to go out-of-pocket on this.I appreciate the sentiment, guys. I built in some extra funds to the GB pricing to cover boxes, tape, etc., and i think I figured high on that, so I just have to see where things end up. The big lifesaver here is that I didn't invoice international orders yet. That would have killed me.
So after some trial and error, I believe I've found a good solution for the extremely tight stems on these things.
It appears that all of the holding force on these caps comes from the four corners of the stem. So I tried removing two of the corners from the equation. I took a sharp utility knife (x-acto knife would probably be easier to use) and cut a relief on the two back corners of the cap. Here's a pic to show what I'm talking about:Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/QCDn8eS.jpg)
Now the cap is still held in place by the two front corners, and it provides just enough force to keep the cap snug, much like a well-fitting MX keycap.
If you foresee the need to remove these caps more than once or twice, I strongly recommend making this small modification before installing them. A little bit of extra time will save you a lot of grief later.
Yeah, it's a problem. The cross shape of the Cherry stem is so much more suited for replacing caps. Supposedly the key is NOT to wiggle the caps, but to simply pull with an even force - you know, like you absolutely don't feel like doing cause you're sure it's going to break it :|Yes but that's only going to do so much. SP Alps caps, and these ones in particular, seem like they're almost too tight for their own good.
And here my plan is to first put them on the AEK2 plated keyboard, and then move them to the Dell plated keyboard once I get some proper AEK2 caps...Just do the stem mod I posted earlier. They'll be fine and it's pretty easy, if a little time consuming.
Oh well, gingerly gingerly...
[...] Maybe I'm just crazy but it appears some of the caps on rows 2 and 3 have varying levels of height. Unfortunately I don't have any good way to photograph what I'm seeing.

You're not crazy. I'm putting on the caps right now and my 'R' is higher than the 'E' and 'T' next to it. It seems to be the cross on the bottom of the cap is higher than the others around it. I'll make a note of all the ones that have this issue and see if it was similar across runs.

This time I took pictures:
Here you can see T is lower than R and Y:Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/P3bWEEw.jpg)
Here is a bottom comparison of T and Y. Y is the closest cap:Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/t5lNRyI.jpg)
As you can see the cross on Y is much taller than the cross on T.
Rows 2 and 3 seem to have varying levels of height to them, but Y, I, A, D, seem to be the tallest and Tab, T are the lowest. I also have one Row 1 blank and one row 2 blank that are shorter than the rest.
Wow, there's definitely a difference there. I'll have to check my board when I get home. Meanwhile, it would be good if others can share their findings as well.

You may want to reach out to SP as there are a *lot* of keys that are different. In the first set I pulled out the two 1.25 Alps Mountain keys have a different height on them. Looking at the front of the board it basically looks like a roller coaster.
Amazing colors and design, but I think SP totally botched the stems.

Well, guys, I don't really know what to say. It's starting to look like this is a consistent issue across sets, which suggests a problem with SP's molds. And it's not like we have any other SP Alps sets to compare them to.
I'm open to suggestions regarding how to handle this. In the meantime, if you have issues please share your photos in the thread. This will help us determine the true nature & extent of the problem. I'll hold off on contacting SP until we have more data.
I guess it can't hurt to keep shipping out sets. If SP ends up replacing caps we'll have to cross that bridge when we get to it.
Received this yesterday. The Matias stabs include Cherry clips, so they will work with these caps. However, the stab wires won't match up perfectly so you'll need to do some surgery on those.
Thanks for doing this group buy. I really don't know what I was thinking at the time, but I ended up with like 10 spacebars (just 1 base kit).
Something that confused me though is why the spacebars have crucifix (cherry style) stab holes. I'm still waiting on my matias stabilizers, but I guess thats not a mistake?
Thanks

I just hate that njbair is the sole person that has to deal with this hassle. QA must be really low at SP for something like this to slip by...

Regarding QA, don't forget this is the first set of Alps alphas SP has produced for the community. Who knows how long that tooling has been idle? There's just a lot that's unknown right now, but one thing I'm confident about is that SP will make this right. They always do.

That's the way SP does it. While it doesn't make total sense to have cherry stabs they work just fine.

That left alt is up too far in that picture. Mine was like that. Was. I fiddled with it to try to get it to push down properly onto the switch, breaking it in the process. Super glue holds it a little higher now.
Lots of errors in my set, but glad we are on it. If there is anything that I can do to help the process along, just ask. Thanks NJ!

A big thing you can do for njbair is to take pictures so he has evidence to show SP. Any picture that shows a height between two or more keys will be helpful. Also if you can note what specific keys/rows are problematic, that would be helpful.
I have a feeling most, if not all sets will be consistently malformed caps..It only makes sense that they would be the same. Injection molding is pretty repeatable. I imagine the issue is that SP didn't realize the height of the cross braces was a critical dimension.

WOOOHH!! They're in! ;DEveryone gets ISO keys. The only add-ons were spacebar kits and novelties. But if you are unsure what you ordered PM me and I'll double check it for you.
I was also one of the lucky winners of the Dolly sets haha. Pretty funny because I've literally have never won a raffle in my 22 years. I'll take more pics tomorrow when I have better lighting and I don't have to study for a midterm :/
Also is there anyway to check the form we filled out? I think I got an ISO set by accident, but I just wanna make sure it was my error and I'm not holding back an international person (Actually that probably means I didn't win the Dolly set HAHAHA)
Thanks again for the great set njbair! Even in the bags they look beautiful :-*

Sadly my spacebar is a bit rough, so my wire will need some tweaking or some lubing, or something.

If we're placing bets my guess is that they have 2 different alps mounts and one machine had the wrong mold used. I know in my grab bags I sometimes run across MX stems that are strange heights.
I got mine today, and I'll join the circle-hate.
One problem with DCS caps, regardless of mount, is that they don't have a very tall skirt. You can see the gaps underneath the cap far more prominently than with, say, Tai Hao's ALPS caps or indeed most OEM caps. This gives you the floating-keycap effect, even if you don't want it.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/PmXuUag.jpg)
This is a beautiful set. Is this same GB planned any time in the future?
If there ever is a round 2, I wouldn't mind running it to take the load off of nj the next time! :thumb:
I think the problem, like any Alps cap buy, is ensuring that there is enough interest to reach the MQO we want. Not to be impulsive here, haha. I would love to help though as I think Round 2 cap buys are sorely needed in some cases.
I think a TKL would strike a good middle ground. Those who use 60% can still use all the TKL keys without issue too :)Yep, offer the standard ANSI layout keys, then all other layout support as a big, all-or-nothing add-on kit.
Alright. I got all the keys stabilized on a V60 tonight, all I used were the bars from my matias stabilizer kit, two pliers and the wire cutter from one of the pliers.
I took a bunch of pictures of the process that I'll put up a little later. But the gist is to use a spacebar stabilizer to measure the height you need the final bent stabilizer to be: straighten the ends to make a U and then mark the new height and bend in. You may have to cut the end a bit as you need to make sure the bar clears the housing.
The pita was the right shift which needs a completely new bent stabilizer. I used one of the 7u's that I won't need, but a 6.25 is fine.
Not too hard, just a little time consuming. :)

So to install these on a V60 (which is what I hope to do if/when the next GB comes along), you need an extra stabilizer kit? Is it possible to use the already-provided stabilizers that the board ships with, or do these keycaps fit totally differently?
Re-bending Alps Stabilizers for use with Cruciform Stabilizer Inserts
Tools Necessary:
- Two pairs of pliers (I used a small locking pliers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locking_pliers) and a needle nose pliers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Needle-nose_pliers))
- Heavy duty wire cutter (I used the pair on my needle nose pliers)
- Alps stabilizers for the < 2.75u keys, and an extra spacebar stabilizer
Step 1 - Bend the 'C' into a 'U'
Place one plier just below the bend and one right above (I found that the locking plier underneath the bend was easiest for control) and straighten each side of the stabilizer. Perfection is not necessary here, you're looking for "good" not "ammaaaaaazing".
Step 2 - Mark the new bends
Grab a spacebar stabilizer (which just so happens to use cruciform inserts) to mark where your new bend will go. Use a dark colored sharpie and mark both sides of the stabilizer.

They really don't. The blue is nice and vibrant and plays perfectly with the gray.
Someone with a lightbox needs to get some glamor shots in.
How bout a little cross-posting? I took a razor to the flashing on each cap and mounted them a couple times each on a spare board before putting them on the V60. They all mount and come off like butter. Also, confirmed that R,Y, U, and O all sit a little higher that the rest.Looks awesome with your mods as well. Shipping update: every order is now packed and weighed. I'll produce labels for all remaining US orders tonight and get them in the mail tomorrow. Depending on time, I may send out a few international invoices tonight as well. If not, then later this week.
This is a very good point. I just finished creating labels so I can take some time to evaluate my own set and see where the issues are, and maybe compare against others' posts so that I have a starting point to bring up to SP.How bout a little cross-posting? Thank you. Great job of the group buy, it seems to be going very well.
As for international orders, you may want to talk to SP about the 4 caps that a bit off before shipping them out. If they can get the caps out quickly, it will save a ton of $$ on shipping.
might be best to wait for international shipments depending on the lead time from sp as they are more expensive. and as a Canadian the dollar really hurts usI will leave this up to you international folks. It's your money and your inconvenience, so who am I to weigh in?
When you do talk to them again, can you also check what their MOQ would be for a second batch? I'm down for what you suggested earlier, as far as going for a TKL set in round 2.Anyone who's ever worked with SP knows that communication is precious, so I'm not going to bring up anything that's not directly related to getting these mistakes fixed. We'll worry about round 2 later. Besides, their MOQs and pricing probably haven't changed.

When it looked like the replacement space bars were going to cause delays, I told folks to PM me if they were willing to pay extra shipping to get the caps more quickly. Otherwise I would hold off on shipping until the replacements arrived. Maybe I should do the same thing here.
Let me find out what SP has to say and we'll go from there.

That hasn't been documented yet so I think it would be useful to add. I'll do the same as well in a little bit.
If this is an issue of the cross sections in the bottom being too high or the stem being too deep, then I wouldn't mind doing some cap surgery to correct these caps. However, if it's an issue of the cap sitting too low... Well, then COULD be corrected, but it won't be as easy.

Pretty sure it's caps sitting low. There are many more caps on my board that are in the higher state.
Got mine today. Looks way better than the photos and more similar to colors in the mockups.
I also didn´t realize the spacebar mishap meant I would receive twice the amount of spacebars. Holy cow. Looks like I need to buy about 10 more Alps-mount keyboards.

Welp, I broke the stem on the one of the spacebars because I was being an idiot while taking it off. Looks like I'm break them all before I can sell or use them all!
My keycaps came today!

As you can see, they seem to sit higher than both OG Alps caps (doubleshots), and the Alps DCS Modifier set by Badwrench.
I think they used the molds that have the caps sitting higher up for EVERY blank cap. I'm pretty sure that most caps in this batch sit higher as well, whereas the odd ones out are the ones that sit lower, though I could be wrong.
Badwrench's caps are definitely the lower-sitting kind, so this in itself creates a conflict among these two sets.
I have two blanks that are lower on row 1 and 2. I think there is some truth to be said that that just about all of the blanks do appear to be sitting higher.
Just finished modding the wires to work with the crucifix stabs so set is complete and working on a HASU alps64. However, is it me or are all alps as "rocky" as these? Seems like there is a good amount of back and forth play in the caps/connection with the switches. Just wondering if this in my head, if it's an alps thing... or?

This is a result of fewer points of contact within the switch housing, which is also the reason why Alps are so smooth.
So I think we finally have enough data to take up the mismatched heights issue with Signature Plastics. After looking over all the photos, it seems to me like there isn't particular set of caps which are off. Some of you have the same problem keys, but some of you have issues with other keys.
I've compiled an Imgur album of the issues (http://imgur.com/a/xQriH), which I've sent along in an email to Signature Plastics so they can see what's going on.
There is really no rhyme or reason to the inconsistencies. I can only imagine that, whatever happened, it either only happened with some of the molds and only some of the time, or they just all got mixed together before SP sorted them out into sets.
As far as what this all means for the resolution, I do not know. The caps are wrong, that's plain to see. We just have to trust SP to make this right.
I'll keep you posted when I hear something.
As an experiment, I placed all my caps on a table top. They all seem to be the same height. Lucky? I put a ruler across the caps and all touch the ruler at the same time.

Unfortunately, that won't give you an accurate measurement, since it's more of a stem issue than it is the cap body itself. The reinforcing cruciform material on the base of the stem is sometimes too high (or too low?) to be even with the other caps.
Even on the blanks I have, I looked at the underside and noticed a lot of inconsistencies.
I heard back from Melissa at SP this morning. She was both concerned and contrite. She had a few clarifying questions which I was able to answer. She also voiced some concern regarding the apparently random nature of the issue, as that suggests worrisome production problems.
Melissa came right out and asked whether I thought the entire order needs to be re-run. I replied that the random nature of the issue makes it difficult to imagine any other resolution, but that I would be willing to meet her in the middle if she can think of something less drastic which still results in a full set of correctly-sized caps for all buyers. At this point I don't know what that would be.
The most important thing right now, I think, is to give SP time to investigate the issue and make sure that it's addressed before any replacements are produced.
One more thing. In responding to Melissa's questions this morning, I did a bit more investigating and uncovered some interesting info.
Here's a shot of E3E's board with some row-1 Alpine Winter blanks, with OEM keycaps to the left, and a Badwrench DCS modifier to the right:Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/Kk7Pqv0.jpg)
There is an obvious difference between heights. The AW blanks are taller than both the OEM keycaps and the Badwrench DCS keycap.
Looking at the AW sets I have on hand, and all the photos reported in, it looks like Alpine Winter's row 1 are mostly correct. This suggests that DCS row 1 is supposed to be taller than OEM.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/VGLCmXR.jpg)
But if that's the case, why is Badwrench's ESC key sitting so low on E3E's keyboard?
Based on this data, it looks to me like this heights issue was present on Badwrench's modifiers as well. Only nobody noticed it because there are very few modifier keys next to each other. Anyone care to take a look at their Badwrench sets?

I'll issue new invoices once everything's here in my hands.
I'm thinking that with the USPS rate increases, it might make more sense to use flat rate boxes this time around. I'll have to look into it and see what fits.
Good news indeed! Did they say what went wrong?
I love all the details provided, thanks to SP for the explanation and njbair for relaying. This is the sort of stuff I deal with every day at my job, so it's really interesting to me. :)+1
Interesting, I'm really glad it's a fixable problem. Did they mention if they would still offer 1Z molds if a GB leader wanted shorter keycaps? I can't see why anyone would, just wondering. They didn't say they were converting all of their 1Z molds, just some of them. So I suppose 1Z would still be available. It's worth noting, though, that when I contacted SP about Alps keycaps, they never presented options like this. It's as though EX is the standard, and 1Z is a special case. Their decision to increase their capacity for EX production would seem to support this theory.

My manufacturing background also leads me to believe that someone likely received quite a royal chewing-out as a result of this error.
Looks like these baby step GBs are really testing SP's Alps mettle. Both sets, badwrench's and Alpine Winter, have had errors and needed to be rerun to an extent. This one is an even bigger mess up.

When you stop to think about it, custom keycaps is an extremely detail-oriented business. As such, there's just a lot that can go wrong. Here we have a company that's been chugging along since the eighties, primarily as a B2B enterprise, then along comes the keyboard enthusiast community, which is still less than a decade old, and SP is trying to seize the opportunity to grow their consumer business. But it's completely uncharted waters. Their offerings are far more diverse than their closest competitors--GMK is Cherry only, with limited support for nonstandard keys, and most other keycap makers only spit out 104-key Cherry MX base kits. SP is the only one offering such a wide variety of profiles, mounts, fonts, custom legends, custom sizes, etc. Also, we take for granted all the things that SP gets right every time. For instance, I've never heard of any problems with SP's colors. I've never seen any flashing issues like Tai Hao caps sometimes have. They are also very responsive and a pleasure to work with. And in recent months, we've even watched them change the way they do business to better serve the enthusiast market, as they've overhauled their PMK online store to try and do a better job meeting demand and circumventing the long wait times characteristic of group buys. They even took the time to respond to forum posts and provide good answers right here on Geekhack regarding Massdrop price breaks, which they didn't have to do.
Anyway, I get what you're saying and you're correct, SP is learning some lessons the hard way. But they're also doing a lot of things right. And more importantly, when things go wrong, bending over backwards to make things right.
I 100% agree with you, Nick.
I 100% agree with you, Nick.
Whoa, are we allowed to use real names here? :))
Just a quick heads up nj, my gb was specifically ordered in the 1Z profile. I wanted it to match the height of existing escape keys from sp and some of the older alphas on random boards that were also made by sp.
Late to the party, but I've heard that there will be reruns of this keyset soon, so does that mean I could join later?
Does this mean that everyone who ordered will receive a new (corrected) order automatically? Do we need to sign up and/or return the originals?
Does the re-run include space bars as well? I know those had mistakes already, but not sure if they also had the stem issue resolved in the re-run.

I was told they are going to re-run the entire order.
If we haven't, will we get both sets?Does this mean that everyone who ordered will receive a new (corrected) order automatically? Do we need to sign up and/or return the originals?
If you already have your caps, you will be getting replacements. No questions asked, no returns necessary. I don't think SP wants the defective keycaps any more than we do.
If you haven't gotten them yet then you're international. Which means double the sets will cost double the shipping. I guess I'll leave that up to you. I'll have to think of a way to organize that first, though. If we haven't, will we get both sets?Does this mean that everyone who ordered will receive a new (corrected) order automatically? I'll have to think of a way to organize that first, though. If we haven't, will we get both sets?Does this mean that everyone who ordered will receive a new (corrected) order automatically? Do we need to sign up and/or return the originals?
If you already have your caps, you will be getting replacements. No questions asked, no returns necessary. I don't think SP wants the defective keycaps any more than we do.
What a plot twist o.O
I'm not against people getting caps but I have to admit I'm kind of against all the extra work of separating the existing presorted sets. Just build a keycap sorting robot. It can't be that hard. :))
Having done plenty of keycap set separating myself, I think it should be an all or nothing thing. Sorting one set ain't so bad, but sorting dozens is asking a lot.
There may be a misunderstanding here. The base kits will come pre-sorted, as per the original order. Only the blanks will need to be resorted and that's not so bad.
This discussion had to do with whether or not international buyers want to pay extra shipping for the mistaken sets, and someone suggested breaking up the mistaken sets and just sending a handful of extras from them (logo caps, for example) along with the corrected orders. I was just pointing out that I'm not thrilled about the idea of digging into all those pre-sorted mistaken orders to fish out a few special caps. I'm thinking you either pay to ship the whole thing, or only pay for the corrected set.
US buyers will end up paying shipping twice. But international orders haven't shipped yet, so I figure it's only fair to give them the option. But I don't think breaking up the mistaken sets will be an option from my standpoint.
I just had an idea, though. Once all the orders are shipped, if I end up with a bunch of leftover mistaken sets, maybe I can do a little fundraiser. It may be possible to piece together some self-consistent sets, which could then be resold in the classifieds with all proceeds going towards Geekhack's operating costs. Just an idea, but I could take my time with the sorting because nobody will be waiting on them.
I'd like to know the price difference, if possible, before deciding.
Which means double the sets will cost double the shipping.
International orders have not been shipped yet. And I'm not sure that double weight = double price for all packages. Weight is only a part of the equation.I'd like to know the price difference, if possible, before deciding.
You already know it.Which means double the sets will cost double the shipping.
Whatever you paid in shipping originally, that is what you will have to pay again.
I was just now checking my Alpine Winter set. I discovered that the profile of Alpine Winter is different from that of the Matias keycap sets and vintage IBM 5140. The IBM and Matias sets match, but Alpine Winter is different from each of these other sets. I assume that this is inherent to the SP set and will be the case even with the corrected set that SP will be issuing. Is this a correct assumption?Correct. These are DCS profile, which is similar but different than the OEM profile of the other two sets you mentioned.
Regarding international shipping prices, not sure if retail or commercial applies here: http://pe.usps.gov/text/dmm300/Notice123.htm#2521047I think you would want Priority mail (not First Class) for tracking numbers, right?
There may be a misunderstanding here. The base kits will come pre-sorted, as per the original order. Only the blanks will need to be resorted and that's not so bad.I think you could just sell them uncorrected, I doubt sorting them will bring in *that* much extra to justify the work. I like the idea though.

Three cheers for SP and a moment of silence for njbair who gets to do this damn thing twice. I say we pitch in and buy him something nice.

A Pony?
All that packing and shipping is gonna take its toll physically.
How about we pitch in for a 1 hour massage voucher.
I tried to remove one of the caps today. I applied steady upward pressure like we are supposed to do. I ended up ripping the Matias switch apart. At least I have spares.Indeed. I know it's tedious, but I really, really recommend trimming the corners on all SP Alps keycaps. I posted earlier about how to do this, but I know not everybody keeps up with the thread.
Remember to be careful folks.
That's odd. I don't see any height difference from my set to this one:
(Attachment Link)
Do note that without first trimming the flashing from the stems, they are very tight and take more force than most people feel comfortable using to push them all the way in. I have a video tutorial uploading now and will post it when it is done.
As far as overall height differences, It is mostly the qwer row keys that are most noticable (R,Y,U,P), but also the G, K, V, B, and M keys. None of my mods are off and the heights of the non-offending keys from this set match the height of mine perfectly.

Edit: Tutorial Video.

I'm thinking about breaking this info out into its own thread and linking in my signature. Then I can include a little instruction sheet in the package with a link to the thread.
I must have missed that video, either because it was an edit or because it doesn't show up in Tapatalk. But thanks for sharing it.One more thing. In responding to Melissa's questions this morning, I did a bit more investigating and uncovered some interesting info.

It took me about an hour to do the entire set.

Hey all, just a quick non-update update. Nothing new to report. My last correspondence with SP was exactly one month ago (Feb. 24), which means based on a six-week lead time we've still got a couple of weeks to wait before the replacement keycaps arrive.
Just to be clear, everybody is getting a replacement set, no questions asked. Everyone will be re-invoiced for shipping costs. If you are an international buyer, since you have not received your caps yet I will present you with two options: 1) pay shipping for both sets (correct & defective), or just pay shipping for the corrected sets. The choice is totally up to you.
If I have any defective sets left over, I can try to piece together some complete sets from those, and sell them in the classifieds with 100% of the proceeds going back to Geekhack.
So let's all hang tight, and thanks as always for your patience!
I REALLY should have purchased more than one set! :(I don't intend to run another GB any time soon. But I hope to see more Alps sets come up.
What are the chances that this will run again, either with this, or a different colorway?

Any spare full sets I would love to get in on!
Any spare full sets I would love to get in on!
Stay tuned! There's a chance there may be some extra sets depending on if some international orders only want one set; and of course it'll depend on what njbair wants to do.
I finally got a chance to get my board assembled this weekend. Blue tex case, blue painted HHKB layout plate, blue alps, and this lovely keycap set.
Timelapse of the build:
Thanks njbair! You rock! :thumb:

for those looking for extra sets or missed the gb, there'll most likely be other custom sets coming for alps,as this gb have paved the way for other custom sets to be made with the already calibrated tooling. all thats need is someone to manage the group buys LOL

I happen to know for a fact that there are one or more parties interested in leading another Alps GB.
Cryptic enough?

BTW did all of the nubbinator already make it out to their new homes? Is there even a slim chance one could be heading up to Canada?! :p

Nubbinator did send me some extras because that's what a great guy he is. Not sure how I'm going to distribute those yet.

also if anyone knows of a kingsaver for sale, please tell me, ive been looking for one, since like forever
Is there any good info someone might have on bending stab wires to work with this keycap set?
I just got my build done the other day and am absolutely loving the colorway and the feel of these caps on my blue alps, but I don't have any stabs! So the spacebar, left shift, and enter are all feeling quite off. I'd love if someone had some good details on getting the right wire and the proper measurements for a 2.25u wire and a 7u wire.

I used K&S #502 music wire and it worked like a champ. The only challenge is keeping all of the bends in the same plane.
Bending jig is definitely worth the investment. Even for one board's worth of bending. Is there any good info someone might have on bending stab wires to work with this keycap set?

Thanks! I'll have to check that stuff out, and I will probably just use a bending jig and a lot of measuring to make sure everything goes smooth.

No question, it was the best $20 that I've spent in a long time.
I think I spent an hour measuring and bending my first three test springs. Once I figured it out and documented the dimensions, I bent all of the springs that I needed in 20 minutes. Just be careful about keeping all of the bends in the same plane. A small error on a long spacebar spring, for instance, gets magnified, due to the length. There is nothing difficult about it it just takes patience and attention to detail.

What bending jig do you have? I'm needing to make some stabilizers, and I can't seem to find one that would work well for the small diameter wires.
It's a Du-Bro #480. They can be found in hobby shops as they are commonly used for bending control rods and landing gear for model airplanes. I got mine from that "Big River" store.
The music wire that you want is from K&S Precision Metals, #502.

Thank you! I have come across that tool before in my searching, but I wasn't sure if it was strong enough to bend music wire. Good to know that it will work for this application.

Hey guys, I'm going to buy some of the K&S Precision Metal music wire #502 to make some Alps stabilizer wire. Let me know if anyone else wants any. I will have way too much for myself.

THanks. Yea, per foot cost is cheaper with McMaster. Higher costs shipped, though, if you are just buying for yourself.
Never had an ALPS board, are there any extras of these by chance?
Good news, the replacements are here. They arrived today.
I've got commitments tonight and tomorrow, but I hope to have time to dig into the sets this weekend and look them over. I'll do my best in the coming weeks to block out time for sorting, packing and shipping. But frankly, because SP didn't provide notice, it's going to be a bit of a scramble. I'll keep you updated.
Originally I had set aside international orders until last due to invoicing. This time, since everyone has to pay for shipping again, I think I'm going to pack and weigh everything, then invoice the sets on a first-come, first-served basis. US-based orders, please remember that the USPS has raised prices since original invoicing, so expect to pay a little more this time.
Thank you all for your patience through this ordeal. We're nearing the end of the tunnel.

Thanks for all the hard work. It takes a special kind of crazy to organise a gb ;D
And yes I suppose it does take a measure of insanity to do this. But who wants to just do boring, non-crazy things? That's no fun. Now, the real crazy one here is BlueNalgene, who is doing it again.
I am not sure why I ordered the Infinity Hacker Spacebar (6U) 2-Pack when I really needed the AEK II Spacebar (6.5U) 2-Pack. Is there anybody that wants to swap or who doesn't need their AEK II Spacebar pack? PM me.

Oh staaaaahp. I'm blushing.
Well I finally managed to carve out some time at home without the family this evening so I could dig into this new shipment without "help" from a 4-year-old. Because although he means well, these caps are too valuable--and too lose-able--to risk it.
So here's what we've got:Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/QM4tZHr.jpg)
I went through and checked a few sets, and indeed they all have stems the same height! The only problem I could find was that the replacement ISO enter key has an MX stem. But after going through and checking a bunch of original sets (I still have all the international orders on-hand), it looks like the mold for the ISO enters was correct, so the original ISO enters already match the new, corrected caps. So basically everyone gets a free Cherry MX ISO enter, I guess.
If you already have your order then all I need to do is box up your replacements and invoice you for shipping. If you don't already have your order, I'll cherry-pick the spacebars and ISO enter from the original order and pack it up with the replacements. I'll contact you to give you a choice whether you want to keep the mistaken originals as spares and pay for the extra shipping weight. As I've mentioned in the past if enough people opt not to keep their mistakes I'd love to eventually sift through them and put together as many good sets as possible using the mistakes and other leftover extras, then sell those extra sets in the classifieds with the proceeds going towards GeekHack's operational costs.
I'm going to start invoicing, but don't worry if I don't get to you this weekend. There's a good bit of hand-work involved here and I want to make sure I get it right. Thanks again for your patience.

Does the re-run include space bars as well? I know those had mistakes already, but not sure if they also had the stem issue resolved in the re-run.
I was told they are going to re-run the entire order.
Wait a few pages back you said that the spacebars would be part of the replacements.
I got rid of the first batch already. Did I mess up? Am I going to be without spacebars for my replacement pack? (I ordered 1x of each type of spacebar)

I'm still waiting to hear back from a number of international folks about whether they want their mistake sets.
Just heard back from Melissa at SP. She sounds as frustrated with the production issues as we are. She told me they'll start on the remakes ASAP.
Shipping-wise, this weekend I managed to get over half of the replacement orders boxed up and ready to be weighed, invoiced, and shipped. Some of you may start seeing shipping invoices arrive this week, depending on how my evenings go. It's looking like domestic orders will ship for around $8-$10. This is higher than the first time around, mostly because I undercharged last time and the USPS raised their rates in between when I sent out invoices and when I mailed out the sets. Your shipping cost will just be the cost of shipping from my address to your USPS shipping zone, plus a small flat per-buyer amount (~$1) to cover the cost of more boxes and packing materials.
I'm still waiting to hear back from a number of international folks about whether they want their mistake sets. In the meantime I'm prioritizing orders that are ready to go (i.e., not waiting on blanks), both domestic and international.

Hey everyone, apologies for my absence the past few weeks. I've been putting in 70+ work hours due to special projects. But I took this week off for vacation and I'm sitting down now to send out invoices and hope to finish packing up orders today.Life and Family first buddy. Don't kill your whole vacation working on this stuff. I am no hurry for mine, get those who don't have anything yet done first. :thumb:
In the meantime, the replacement blanks have arrived and I'm going to start sorting them once I get some invoices sent out.
Seriously everyone, thanks for not biting my head off after all the delays. Your patience has been incredible.

A chance, yes. A fair number of international buyers declined their mistake sets so I should be able to piece together some full correct sets. As previously stated, all proceeds will go to GH. But I'm not even going to mess with that until all original buyers have their orders.Any chance of any leftovers being available?+1

Any update on when we can expect international orders to ship?
Agreed !Any update on when we can expect international orders to ship?

njbiar has the fix here: https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=75515.msg2037974#msg2037974
The gist is you need to trim the back corners of the stem. I have a flat x-acto blade that works really well for me.
Quick update: I've created labels for another two dozen orders today, I'll get them shipped out this week and keep plugging along as time allows. Thanks as always for your patience, folks.

Nothing more exciting than receiving a package from Bad Motivator. Many thanks for all the hard work.
I received mine as well. Thanks for all the hard work njbair.

Does anyone have a spare 6x spacebar from the set? I gave mine away when I thought I wasn't going to need it, and now I have another Infinity.

Pretty sure I ordered extras, so I could send you one if no-one the the US hooks you up before hand.
Aaaand the nubs on D and K are driving me nuts!
Though I finally understand what Alps stabs are supposed to be like. Where can I get more of these?

You can get them from Matias.
I've still got lots of orders to invoice and ship. Don't worry if you haven't gotten an invoice yet. I'll get some more ready to go this weekend. Thanks! njbair! :thumb:

UPDATE: All orders are now boxed, all that's left is weighing, invoicing, and shipping.
My wife and I managed to go through and sort all the blanks last night, and got them boxed up with their respective orders. So I'm going to borrow the postage scale from work some night this week, and get everything weighed. From there I can start calculating shipping totals and get some invoices sent out.

Did the artisan winners ever post their boards? Would be lovely to see.

Hey njbair, I didn't receive an invoice from you... should I PM you?
No invoice here, but I'm still not complaining. **** happens.
I'll just patiently wait until more details unfold. I don't think nj would bail on us.

My main annoyance is that some people have had keycaps in hand for 8 months now, US people started getting their replacement sets 4 months ago, and some of us are still haven't seen one keycap. Feels like the forum regulars got theirs and international casual users can go suck a lemon. Frankly I could have bought one of several sets I saw on /r/mechmarket by now.
Good point. I apologize for my ignorance regarding that issue concerning the international buyers still waiting on receiving anything at all. I entirely forgot that njbair waited on shipping those until the replacements arrived.
Yeah, I don't know what's going on here. NJ should at least post SOME kind of update, but I know how it can be when the guilt train hits you hard and you feel like you can't show your face until you have something to speak of (and I know it could be any number of reasons, not just guilt).
Still, we don't need another SethK or Ivan incident here.
I have received my original orders, but I didn't receive the replacement sets as I put in a large blank order so that puts me at the end of the priority list. Anyone in the US still not have replacement sets?
I'm still waiting for an invoice... I have a keyboard fully ready for a year now with a wooden case and Matias Reds that I'm dying to try. No Alps keys, though...
So here's what's pissing me off: This thread starting out by njbair offering to do us a huge favour. Then, it turns out that GMK ****ed up, and njbair's huge favor is now SUPERHUGE.
And you're complaining... I know no one is blaming njbair as yet, but I've seen threads go off track REAL FAST before! And it's SO TOXIC!
Also, Massdrop has a much better reputation now than it did a year ago... BECAUSE they charge for doing what njbair is probably tearing his hair out trying to for free right now.
So remember this: njbair is trying really hard to do a job he didn't really even volunteer for! Yes, it takes longer. Suck it up, brother mechheads - suck it up and be glad :)
And next time, suggest to the runner that you'd rather pay a little more to do the run through Massdrop than having it all fall on one pair of shoulders!
I don't mind the wait. It's the 47 days without an update, on a product that we paid for over a year ago, that grinds my gears.
has anyone pm njbair personally? what is the current update? if he feels tired from shorting and shipping and want to take a break i don't really mind, but i need some sort of update so that i don't feel cheated.

Toxicity begins when a random guy shows up tell people their frustration is meaningless and they should just STFU. People are asking for an update, a feedback and that's totally justified. My PM is unanswered since July so of course I'm worried. But I guess it's my bad because I didn't tell him to use Massdrop instead /s
**** happens, we all understood the delays and the problems that occurred. I was okay with it because he was giving feedback and updates and I was expecting to get my stuff soon TM. At this point I have very little hope of getting the keycaps and that saddens me. I feel like I have the right to express it.

Sans the slight drama up there, njbair really should publicly comment to help reassure us here. I'm still waiting for my replacement sets.
Yeah, that's even worse. C'mon nj. No need to avoid things. If you've got some kind of life issues going on or are feeling down in the dumps and need some motivation, let us know, dude! Showing us you haven't just forgotten about our orders and actually care will do heaps.
This is reminding me a little of how SethK ditched his LED order. :-\
I am getting mad at this point >:D >:D >:D and I feel we have crossed the line of unacceptability.Everyone here needs to come to terms that it's highly unlikely any further orders will be fulfilled. It's an extra kick in the balls to us international buyers who are left with zilch for our efforts (in my case $146). That's the risk you take with these group buys. Caveat emptor.
So here's what's pissing me off: This thread starting out by njbair offering to do us a huge favour. Then, it turns out that GMK ****ed up, and njbair's huge favor is now SUPERHUGE.
I'm guessing njbair isn't going to show his face on GH again after this.
I'm willing to pay for a chunk of the bulk shipping and pay the shipping fees again to the person who'd dispatch them. Hell, I'd even offer to do the re-distribution myself if we could get an idea of the numbers which are still left to fulfill.

Why ? There's nothing broken that can't be mended (yet). And the dude is running his account under basically his real name, he isn't very hard to track down. Maybe he just needs a kick in the pants to stop procrastinating.

Does anyone have a personal relationship with him? skullydazed maybe? I think our only hope is someone convincing him to ship the items in bulk to another member.

I reached out again over the weekend. I don't really have more of a personal connection than anyone else here, I just have a largish order I'm also waiting on. My last email exchange with him was in September and at that time I offered to help him in any way I can. That offer still stands if he needs help to finish up.
if he had the replacement keys already, how does one just disappear? i mean.. is not like there is some other market where he could sell those and profit. something happened to the guy. i hope he's ok. sadly, we lost our cash it appears.

The guy posted on Twitter a week ago, so he's fine. Maybe things got away from him, or he's procrastinating,... All that is fine, those are things that happen. What I can't stand is not even taking the 2 minutes it would take to own up to it and respond to an email, or even a tweet. I mean this guy is a web developer, are we supposed to believe he didn't see the tweets or mails ?
Edit: OK I've decided to be that guy and spammed 3 email addresses of his I could find. I feel like a bozo, but there it is. If there's no response to any of those I'm going to assume I just got scammed (again!).
Why get in on this group buy? One word: freedom.
You're here reading this because you have an Alps board of some kind, or at the very least, some interest in Alps/Matias switches. You probably also have one or more Cherry MX boards as well. Those Cherry boards probably all have different keycaps. But what kind of keycaps do you have on your Alps board? My money says they're stock. Because a good set of aftermarket Alps caps is hard to come by.
Those aftermarket caps on your Cherry board represent one kind of freedom. Freedom to choose. Freedom to express yourself with your color choices, unique layouts and combinations. But ironically, that desire for freedom of expression has enslaved you to the Cherry MX world. Meanwhile, your Alps boards remain faithful and reliable, like a Model T Ford. And just like a Model T Ford, you can have any color as long as it's black.
NOT ANYMORE.
This group buy also comes in one color: BX Teal Blue. But behind that BX blue stands a legion of color choices waiting to heed the call--the call of Alps group buy success. Will you step up and do your part? Will you rise before the world of Cherry MX oppression, proudly fly the Alps flag and join us? Will you risk your wallet to open the doors to a wide world of switch and keycap options for generations to come?
If we succeed, we do so together. And we may emerge with thin wallets, but we emerge with SP DCS Alps modifier keycap sets in our hands. And then, they may take our stock keycaps away, but they will never take...

OUR FREEDOM!
I'm kind of afraid to scroll back and see what stuff has (justifiably) been said about me.
Hi, folks. This reply is long overdue and for that I offer a sincere apology.
I kept telling myself, "I'll post an update as soon as I make some more progress." But as the weeks go by, the group buy just becomes that thing that's never going to get done, and in my mind the urgency wanes in light of whatever other urgent thing has popped up in front of it.
I'm not here to offer excuses because I don't think anyone here cares about that. I just wanted to tell you all that your keycaps are still here, they're safe, and I've got eleven days of vacation I have to use up this month, during which time I'm going to do my best to get as many orders out as possible.
I haven't been keeping up with the thread and at this point I'm kind of afraid to scroll back and see what stuff has (justifiably) been said about me. I'm just going to focus on shipping caps.

I might sell my spot from this, not particularly interested in building an Alps board.
PM me if you're interested.

Just snag a set of costar inserts from somewhere and you are good to go. I am not sure if the costar wires fit in the alps wire holders, I just used the stock wires from the board I changed over. Do note that it may be hard to get replacement wires if you choose to change back. They are easy to make if you find the right diameter wire.

Most of the shipping invoices I sent out last week have been paid, so tomorrow morning I'm going to print out shipping labels for those orders and drop them off to the post office. If you want your CONUS order to ship tomorrow, please pay ASAP.
Hopefully I'll have time later in the day to start getting shipping quotes for international orders and send out some invoices for those. I'll keep you all updated.

Maybe they are suspicious. When I got that invoice, my first reaction was "what the hell is this? I didn't ask for any IT consulting." It took me a minute to figure out what it was for. :))
Got my set today. Was a spacebar supposed to be included or omitted in the replacements? I didn't get one in the replacement package.
Ah, I figured. Thanks for the confirmation.Got my set today. Was a spacebar supposed to be included or omitted in the replacements? I didn't get one in the replacement package.
Nope. The space bars were not affected by the production issues so SP did not furnish replacements.
Quick update, I'm going to start getting quotes for international shipping on Tuesday. I'm honestly not sure how long that's going to take but I hope I can get through a good number of them in a day and get those invoices out the door.

It is possibly the best Alps keycap set produced in recent years - the color, the profile, and the selection of keys to include.
I wonder if there is any possibility to have a re-run of this GB in the future.
You don't need to contact SP to try get them to run it. Someone here in the community can start an IC/GB for it.It is possibly the best Alps keycap set produced in recent years - the color, the profile, and the selection of keys to include.

I was thinking that we could tally up the final numbers as proof of a solid/moneymaking set for SP, but I suppose they have those numbers. Maybe we could beg and plead for a second run?? I don't know how to contact them anymore because the website seems to make it apparent that they don't want casual feedback anymore.
I'm still holding out for Lightcycle to make a run in 2017, but Alpine Winter would be a nice treat.

Alpine Winter is meant to be a more modern color pallete. The goal of the infinity mods kit was to be a more classic color so that it would better match whatever classic alpha kit you chose to pair it with.It is possibly the best Alps keycap set produced in recent years - the color, the profile, and the selection of keys to include.

I just contacted SP yesterday asking them the availability of even just a blank set for Alps switches.
They replied quickly saying that they do not have such an item in their inventory, not for DSA, not for DCS, of course not for SA (how can these giant caps mount on Alps switches??)
Lightcycle is also a nice set but it is a DSA set which is good for smaller boards.
If I have to propose an Alps set be available in SP inventory for a longer run, it would be Alpine Winter or its extension kits. The Alps DCS Infinity modifier kit is nice to have but looking at the choice of color, Alpine Winter has to be better.
Quick update: I shipped out all remaining paid orders on Wednesday, international and CONUS. So if you have paid your shipping invoice your package is on its way. I haven't had time to sit down and send out PM's with tracking info yet.

Glad to see some international sets starting to land, even if it's just the 51st state (Canada). You guys waited this whole time without even the mistake sets to hold you over.
Also nice to see some pics of the keycaps in place on boards. I haven't even gotten around to trying out my own corrected sets yet. Hopefully soon.
Apologies for the out-of-the-blue first post here..
Q: Is it possible to buy an international order spot if there are any remaining / unpaid / up for sale?
I'm in the UK, have a KBP V60 Matias on order and finding ALPS sets is proving impossible (as I'm sure the fellow Alpers here can understand).
Again, I know it's beyond late to jump on the GB but I have to try my luck.
Cheers, Chris.

More expensive but you could buy from Clueboard

OK, now that sticker is a great idea. I love the way the blue looks with the silver. Gives me some ideas for my HHKB plate.Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/KZANBOW.png)

Thanks, yeah I found them on there. If it comes to it I'll buy from there, just wanted to put the feelers out on here first..
I'm pretty sure when my V60 arrives in a couple days I'll have to just pull the trigger :D
I ordered a set from Clueboard last night, couldn't hold out :))
Bring on the taxes and fees...
Personally, I would love to own a Clueboard one day. I might sell something else to make that happen.

Nope. Not any time soon, anyway. The time commitment is just too great.
When I started this buy I had a lot of discretionary time. But then we hit delays due to production issues with Signature Plastics, and real life kept going on. I moved my family into a new home, a fixer-upper which required a lot of work; there were health issues in my extended family which kept us tied up; and my work situation changed, requiring in excess of 50 hours per week. Alpine Winter became just one more thing I didn't have time to focus on, and the participants are the ones who suffered for it. Even now that all the sets are shipped out (save a few buyers who haven't responded to my PMs), I still feel incredibly guilty that I let this go as long as I did. Personally, if I were someone else, I don't think I would trust njbair with my money again. At least not for a while.

Here's one I took of mine with Xerox DocuTech/6085 PBT caps and AW mods w/ a Tai Hao space bar. Eclectic, I know. :PShow Image(http://i.imgur.com/bY6xIhr.jpg)Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/tHyEjMX.jpg)
I played with a few sets for this one. :PShow Image(http://i.imgur.com/nOfBWwk.jpg)
Here's the straight AW set though. :D

What cases are those?
Well Ive hit a speedbump in my installation..You can get Costar stabilizer inserts, but the existing wires won't work. Right now the prevailing solution is to bend your own stab wires.
These caps have MX stabilizer holes.. my KBP V60 Matias uses Costar stabs with Alps-style inserts:Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/oj5RXhF.jpg)
Im guessing I can just get MX versions of those little sliders?

Does anyone know where these nav cluster keys with legends came from? As far as I know, those were not part of the group buy:Show Image(http://i.imgur.com/qgt2194.jpg)
Probably from skullydazed. He sold some Alpine Winter kits which included extra keys to make it compatible for the Clueboard.
I missed the boat on them due to lack of funds at the time so now I have to find the elusive Alpine Winter: Clueboard Edition keysets aftermarket. :'(
Any chance on a R2 :-0.
Does anyone have a few R4 blanks in blue they could spare?
Wishful thinking after all this time, but if you don't ask...
Hoping that someone has an MX mount ISO enter key that they've never found a use for?
This key was sent with either the original kit, or as a replacement - can't recall.
I've a build that's near complete, with the exception of this MX ISO enter.
It's needed as the PCB/plate has the enter switch rotated 90º, so it's using a slider to provide the MX stem - and patiently waiting for a cap to cover it.
I'm located in the UK, and would be very grateful if anyone could oblige.
All the best!

Is this the one you're looking for?
It certainly is! Would you be willing to let it go?
All the very best!
Had someone else reach out, so in case anyone else is missing something or needs a replacement from this buy, let me know. I have lots and lots sadly unused.
Hi! I’m looking for a replacement Alt cap, I think it’s the 1.5u one. Do you happen to have any of those?
