Yo from Portland, OR!
« on: Wed, 02 September 2015, 13:28:24 »
Hello All!  Happy to be here GeekHack!

I've been active on /r/mechanicalkeyboards for a couple years now and decided to start becoming more active on GH.  Thanks fknRaiden and IvanIvanovich!   ;)  I started hosting meetups in Portland about a year ago and now have a small club that meets monthly here: /r/pdxkbc.

Right now I'm working on finishing up my ErgoDox, just finished my custom gaming rig for my kids, and am working on designing a custom gaming cluster and TKL board.  I like artisans, but am much more interested in spherical and GMK keysets.

Thanks for having me!

Welcome to Geekhack!

What switches have you got in your Ergo Dox?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Hey man! I just moved to Portland in July and I've been active on /r/mechanicalkeyboards for a long time as well! My username there is pruwaters. I definitely want to start attending meet ups here. I also want to finally build my own board from scratch, but am completely inexperienced. I thought it would be cool if some of us could team up and work together on boards. Maybe more experienced people can show us soldering noobs how it's done!?
Anyway, nice to "meet" you!

How apt!  We are going to start a series of workshop meetups now that the sun is starting to go down early again.  Fknraiden and I are both on GH and /r/mechanicalkeyboards.  The meetups have their own subreddit /r/pdxkbc.

Glad to meet!  I'm working on my first from scratch board.  It would be great to learn together!

Unique Ergo Dox!

Was it difficult getting hold of vintage blues?  You don't hear much about them, most people carry on about vintage blacks!
