I have an invoice of around $200. And then I managed to grab my hands on a TKL R4 from someone else - and I really like the R4 SPH - so since I spent money on the R4, I decided to take away the black/red kit and just go for basic R5 - and my order came down to $100. I am happy.

I also thought that the GB will run till end of the month. It's just that if you ordered by today, which is the birthday of 7bit, you get a 5% rebate.

So, not so much of a savings. I only want about $29 worth, and could trim that, too. A red shift, a blue backspace, and the Dvorak kit.

Although maybe I better hurry up and order just to make sure the dvorak kit makes the cut.

7bit said tomorrow he will close GB for R5, and spend 2 weeks for collecting payment. But i hope he can change his mind >.<

So, anybody want to order please join quickly

I lost 408$ for R5 :(
Erhem:
The deadline today is for payment with 5% CherryMX 30th anniversary rebate.

After that, you can still order and pay, but you will not get the 5% rebate.

When I saw this rendition I was hooked.  Placed some orders at DT straight away.

I think this Group Buy is going to sink me deeply because there's too much additions that are available.  Who would think that within the Honeywell layout you could choose so many extras to cover all sorts of keyboards.

Nice setup there, I might even copy yours for an 1800 layout.  Sorry to be so devoid of any original ideas but that's what happens when you swim in muck all day/night long.

Just glad we have those here who are willing to show and tell.  Like I said before I am sorry for ripping off your original design layout for these key-caps  :-[ .

I've been thinking keys for my GH60 using the Samwisekoi layout, but I'm having trouble with the 2.25 L_SHIFT, which I'd like to be R4 since I've gone for the red alphas. It looks like I will have to live with an R3 key in that position. Will it look simply terrible?

Still very much a work in progress, but in the spirit of sharing.

Yes and yes.

1) See http://deskthority.net/wiki/Spacebar
2) See the FAQ on the groupbuy wiki page: http://deskthority.net/wiki/Round_5#From_which_rows_will_be_the_keys.3F

Other than that, I'd say better ask further questions on DT. 7bit doesn't read/post on GH.

I will ask 7bit on DT how to build a set that will work with:
87 TKL Filco (have)
104 Filco (may buy in the future)
ergodox (plan to buy)
HHKB pro 2 (plan to buy)

This will prolly be a bigger order than I originally intended but I don't want to regret not having a set in the future.

Just so I understand this profile layout: the 1.25x modifier row (Ctrl row) will be Row 3-profile, right?

Just looking at 7bit's post where he says the following:

"Only 1, 1.5, 1.75 and 2 units keys exist in a row 4 variant. It would look a bit asymmetric if there where a 1.25 units, row 3 key on the left and a 1.75, row 4 key on the right.

Result: Modifiers below row 3 are all row 3."
http://deskthority.net/marketplace-f11/doubleshot-replacements-round-5-honey-sphericals-t6732-60.html#wrapper

Which is not how the Commando group buy was done:
http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=45655.msg955882#msg955882

"The set will have the row profile like this
Esc row - ROW1
~ 1 2 3 row - ROW2
Tab row  - ROW3
Caps row - ROW3
Shift row - ROW3
Ctrl row - ROW4"

If that's true, it's disappointing that Round5 doesn't follow the improved more ergonomic layout Jil_jil did and that I think Penumbra will follow.

3x row3?? How are you getting that?  Not having row1 along the top is still fine for 60%.  Look at the profile image.

Tab + Caps + Shift, that 3 rows with same profile, isn't it?
Am I missing something or does it make all alphas essentially flat for 60% and ErgoDox?

Ah right yes.  My bad.  Still a curve for number row and bottom row.  But anyway, why would 60% keyboards be any different other than the function row?  Still seems reasonable.

How I look at it is that it is a trade off.  You get support for non-querty layouts but loose some ergonomics. To me it feels like sacrifice is a bit bigger for keyboards that end up not having row1 at all.  Hmm, but I guess it just because I type querty  :)

SA "done right" would also have the function keys be R3 (flat) as it is with the majority of vintage spherical keyboards  that I am aware of.

But basically every set is row1 for function row. Unless you have it on a 75% or similar, you won't be touchtyping the function row anyway as it is set apart, and it makes more sense to have them be flat.

Nevertheless, this GH fulfills the "big picture" so little details such as mismatching modifiers and odd profile rows are no big deal. The KB it's based on isn't sculped at all even (and I am aware of very few sculpted honeywell microswitch keyboards)

We had a poll about the F1-F12 function row and most wanted it row 1 instead of row 3:

If there are enough orders overall, I might add F1-F24 all in row 3, plus numpad in all row 3.

There are 2 function kits (HONEY/FUNCTION/R3 and HONEY/FUNCTION7) which consist of row 3 function keys.

BTW: The Standard kit of the 23 Command group buy was $68.40, while HONEY/TKL+HONEY/SPACE625 is only $69.68 including shipping worldwide and PayPal fees!

If that's true, it's disappointing that Round5 doesn't follow the improved more ergonomic layout Jil_jil did and that I think Penumbra will follow.

I disagree here. I see two major differences between the sets:

1) Commando is using row 3 for all the rows that have alphas. While this is more convenient if you want to make your own dvorak or colemak set and might be more appealing optically because the shift keys have the same profile as the alpha keys on the same row, it's certainly less ergonomic. You basically have a flat field of alphas, which conflicts with the whole point of profiles. Round 5 has a dedicated sets for colemak, Dvarak and BEPO, which is clearly the better solution.

2) Commando is using row 4 for Control/Windows/Alt: I agree that this is more ergonomic than using row 3. I thought the reason for that was that there was no 1.25u row 4 mold, but the new pictures from commando show that it exists. EDIT: 7bit tells me that 1.25u row 4 molds only exist in matte, not semi-matte top surface. Which would be inconsistent with the other keys, and the Commando set is in fact inconsistent in that respect.

Drafting my initial order came out to $280!!!

DAMN - I'm gonna have to cut this down: it's like a battle between my wallet and a fear that if I don't get the combos I want, I will never be able to finish or vary the set the way I like it...

okay - I've cut it down to $240 - need to trim some more

now down to $195, but I need to cut down more - why did bit7 give us so many choices?!?!?  the agony/the ecstasy

ok - down to $127 + $7 shipping - time to get some zzzz's

Heh yeah my first order was > $300.  Cut it down to $150 or so. :D

Same but I only got it down to a bit over 200.

Just sent in an order for $128 (my very FIRST GB!)

It's quite amazing that after trying out various color combinations, the classiest/best-looking combination appears to be the original Honeywell colors.

So I just combined pieces the best I could to get it to look like the original and added a little extra.

HONEY/TKL
HONEY/TILDEBPRIME/GREY
HONEY/VERTBSL150/GREY
HONEY/RETURN225/RED
HONEY/SPACE625

Extras:
HONEY/TKL/BASE/BLACK (black hides the space-row modifiers in my black case)
HONEY/FUNCTION/RED (gotta have that red panic button)
⌨White Blank HHKB P2 ⌨Filco TKL SA MXRed
Interests: ⌨AcidFire's Board ⌨Kinesis Advantage LF

I wish that this set:

Included 1x "0" and "00" caps instead of just one long "0" for the numpad section.  Or "0" and "," instead of long "0". Is anyone getting a kit with those caps in 1x size that won't get used?
