It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

There is a hilarious band from Australia called The Beards. My favourite track title is "If your Dad hasn't got a beard, you've got two Mums"

(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

And I second what demik said, I need a mini wingman or woman like that.  It's more effective than puppies.

ISN'T SHE ADORABLE SHE'S THE BEST

(Sorry, I get a little enthusiastic)

Also, yes. Just make sure people don't think she's your daughter. And if you're really tall and have a tall sister (so you could easily be mistaken as a couple), don't take the niece somewhere with you. It's awkward. (It's actually not that bad, but people will think you're a family)

She is cute.  I can tell your sister got all the good genes in the family...err, I mean, you're an attractive sexy man Hoff and I want your man babies.

You must be spinning it wrong.  All the women I've met think it's cute and responsible and oh so sexy if you're out with your niece.  You just have to make sure they know she's not yours.

The real question is, for those of you men with beards, how many of you aren't trimming or shaping them for November?

it's "no shave november" in english and "beardember" in russian, neither of the names requires anyone to not trim their beard :p

I'll have to take a new picture when there is light out, my beard has come a long way since this thread started! Actually been going to the barbers about twice a month to get a trim otherwise it's like a face afro hahaha
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

Yeah, I think I am just going to come straight down with the sideburns, down to the jawline.  Just to neaten it up.  Still need to find a good barbershop for beards.  I don't trust myself with scissors to get it evened up.

Agreed. I would not let anyone touch my beard unless they were a seasoned professional; and even then I would still be flighty. I think I would just let them line up my cheeks if anything. My hair is curly enough that I can get away with just using a balm to keep it somewhat neat. I'll snip any stubborn hairs that stick way out.

Though the most aggravating part about my beard is the hair doesn't grow out and down.  It goes from left to right.  So if I want to shave against the grain I have to go sideways.  Makes a goatee look funny cause the right side always looks fuller than the left side.

So what do you guys use for a brush or beard oil?

I think my long term goal for my beard is to have my beard and hair hang to the same level.  I know I have a long way to go there.

Yesterday, I asked the wife about going full on Billy Gibbons beard.  Yeah, I didn't exactly get a positive reaction.

I'll have to take new pics soon, mine is way longer than it was when this started. Having to hit the barbers at least once a month these days otherwise it's all over the show.
It's a good width!  If it's half-width it's too narrow, and full-width is too wide.

So what do you guys use for a brush or beard oil?

I've been using Honest Amish Heavy Duty Beard Balm for a little bit now. I like it overall. I have curly hair, and this stuff seems to straighten it out a bit (which is fine with me; makes it look more full) but it is a bit shiny/greasy. I use a small comb to get out any tangles, like this one
More
. I'm almost out of Honest Amish, and I want to try something different; so I ordered Wild Willie's Beard Butter. It's a bit more expensive than the Honest Amish, but it's not supposed to leave an greasy residue.

The one problem with beard balm is that if you don't get it all mixed into your beard well, you may go out and about looking like someone jizzed in your beard.

The one problem with beard balm is that if you don't get it all mixed into your beard well, you may go out and about looking like someone jizzed in your beard.

I wondered how long it would take you to comment on that.  Much faster than expected.

Heh, I think I had that issue once when I didn't warm it up enough; it can be even worse with wax.

The Honest Amish balm is pretty good at turning from a solid to an oil. My bathroom gets rather warm when I shower, which makes the balm super soft and easy to work with by the time I'm ready to apply. I comb my beard out maybe once a week; any other time I apply balm or oil I just rub it in. I also wash my face with African black soap, which does a great job of removing dirt and oils from your face, without leaving any residue whatsoever. Perfect "platform" for applying balm/oil, IMO.

Toothpaste dribbling down your beard is just as bad, if not worse.

How'd that work out for you?
didn't work well :( but that's because of unrelated reasons.

Niiiice.  :D  The shampooed pic looks great.  One on the right looks like I would spend more time finger-combing and would just screw it up more.  xD

I'm still a lazy-ass and haven't bothered to experiment with proper beard treatment (oils, etc).  I tend to just trim it when it gets to the point that you'd really need it.  :-[

I'd say ten hail marys should cover it, but ten months of untrimmed growth seems a bit more fair if you ask me.

Anyone have any recommendations for a new beard balm?  I've been using Honest Amish, but it doesn't give enough control for my tastes.

I really like the beard baron stuff.  Its on the expensive side though.  I just love how fresh my beard smells.  I have a bottle of his limited edition imperial oil (fall blend cherry and tobacco) and a full set of waikiki (oil, balm, mustache wax scented like a Hawaiian fruit basket).  I love the waikiki scent and feel the balm gives a good deal of control.  Always worth a try!  I love collecting all different kinds of beard treats.

I don't see imperial on there.  I know it was a limited run but so was waikiki and the next time I went on there it was a regular.  I have wild wood as well and it smells like straight up pine trees if thats your thing.  Orient express will be the next one I pick up.  Cinnamon, anise, and nutmeg.

I wish I could grow a beard... Damn my Asian genetics!
i wish my beard didn't give me terrible skin irritation. damn my... slavic genetics?

What a beard! How do you like the transitions? Haven't had a pair with those since like 2001, got too annoyed with how long it took for lenses to transition back when going inside. I'd imagine they've improved a lot in 15 years though

I love them.   The only reason my last pair didn't have them was because a second pair with polarized lenses was cheaper.  I still wish I would have gotten transitions instead.  But for my work I cant wear contacts, to much of a hazard.

So I need to find a new beard product.  I have been using beard oils, but it is getting longer to the point that it doesn't do much or just takes a lot of it to get anywhere.  So, I think the next step in this progression is a balm.  Any suggestions?  I would prefer to get one from a site that has a nice wooden comb as well.  I just want something that doesn't snag and cause split ends like my plastic combs.

I've always wondered,  do hair ties hurt ?

Not just on beards. but when people use them in general..

It looks like so much tension being strung together since hair is quite heavy and has high tensile strength.

Have you let your beard escape?
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada
