Decided to shave my beard off today. Man, that was a bad idea. I haven't seen myself beardless in almost 2 years. I even scared my daughter.

I mean, it's not quite at dubs level. And it's not quite as glorious as it once was. But here's my ginger mane as of tonight.

I think I'm in an abusive relationship. I haven't shaved my beard off in three years and my girlfriend really wants me to. I'm entertaining the idea but know I'll just immediately start growing it again. Please help.

I wish my beard was as thick and soft as on some of you guys in this thread. My sideburns are almost disappearing.

My beard is ginger and my gf still hates it.

It's staying for our holiday next week. YOLO.

I've never been able to really grow a healthy thick beard.

I actually had one last week that I had been working on for about a month. The issue I run into is that I can never grow the connecters from the upper lip to the lower chin. I end up just looking like a sex offender so I shaved it all off.

I enjoyed my beard and I'll probably grow another one soon.  :p

Why'd you shave?

With summer coming up, it's nice to start fresh so I don't get even sweatier, plus maintaining a big beard can be a lot of work to do properly.  Also it's nice to just change things up every once in awhile.  I never keep it shaved for more than a day though, so this cycle will just repeat in a few months.  :)

I understand that. I had a beard over this past summer and it was a pain to keep in line.

Facial Hair by Andrew Hoffman, on Flickr

Of course the best thing its that it will just grow back again!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

A week ago today, I made the grave error of getting a haircut AND shaving my beard off.

Needless to say, no one recognized me at work for a couple of days. It's growing back nice and slow...it'll look OK in a couple of weeks.  :D

I actually found trimming it ever so slightly once ever few weeks encouraged it to stop being lazy and keep growing. It does get "stuck" a lot.

Your curly beard is epic as hell.

Time to jump in on this thread.

The Girl will be visiting soon, so I'm trying to find the exact right moment to trim my beard.  This is essential for a few reasons.  The obvious one is that I have super fine hair, so my beard is super soft like a fluffy face bunny.  When I trim, I have about a day or two of slightly pokey hairs.  So I don't want to trim right before she gets here.  Then there is the issue of appearance.  I have a curly beard with some blond patches (one on my left cheek, one on my left jawline, and my jazz tuft - right below the lip).  This causes issues.  Especially if I trim it too short.  And I always trim it short.  It goes like this.

  • Clean shaven - I haven't been that way since high school.  My chin is a childhood memory.
  • Shorn short - Blond spots make it look patchy.  Dude is probably a serial killer.  Much sketch.
  • Yes - Perfect.  Handsome.  Women want to be with me, men want to be me.  One half cocked smirk is all it takes.
  • Long - Scraggly.  Face beginning to resemble testicles.  Girls that have experienced the softness prefer it though - so I stick with it.
  • Super long - it tends to grow out rather than down like those long dwarven beards.  Dude is probably a serial killer.  If wearing a turtlneck - Dude is probably a whaler.

So there is my venting about facial hair.  I require beard therapy.  I presume this involves rubbing my beard with oil and a light massage.  I will just lay here and accept that, thanks.

No beard or anything here (grill), but I'm 22 and have a TON of gray hair on my head. The fact that I'm brunette doesn't help either, people love to point the grays out to me...YEAH I KNOW THEY'RE THERE.  :-[

Grey hairs in the beard is great.  Patches or a couple, not so much.  It's like just make up your mind already.

Grad school buddies! *high five*

I've been out for two years, so I don't think we can be grad school buddies.  I can still commiserate with you about the shared misery of the experience though.  I have enough bitterness stored up from grad school to fuel the hate of several wars.

Some of the ones I get almost fall out, others are grounded.  Plucking beard hair hurts though.  You should have found some way to retaliate...like waxing their arms or legs if they're a dude.

Going grey before 30 is the new "in thing."

I automatically trust someone with grey hair much more. Perhaps we should request that GB leaders state if they are grey.
