AFAIK Alpacas are just a recolor of Durock linears made under the JWK banner.

Durock & JWK are one in the same as far as product is concerned. I believe Durock owns the factory & machinery, then JWK contracts them to produce their switches. Some switches have their own molds or use different materials (V2 Tangies as an example), but most are just recolored Durock L series switches on the linear side & T1s on the tactile side.

Do you know this for a fact? Lol  I thought it was the other way around... I thought JWK factory produces the switches and Durock is the store owner.

I might have it backwards, I just know for sure they both make their products in the same factory with the same equipment sans molds in certain cases.

Since yesterday  I have found out from my favorite keyboard man Blacksimon  that Jwk top housing is very thin , and this is why it produces a high pitched sound.

Personally, I've always had the opinion that JWK switches are not good value. Compared to Tealios, they are good, but you can get around 3 Gateron switches for 1 JWK. And they (Gateron) sound a lot better, and feel almost as good as JWK.

Have you looked at H1 switches? Its also made by JWK but uses a thicker top. H1 has a custom top mold made by JWK.

Yes I've used them. However (to me) the sound is not noticeably different from other JWK.  It still doesn't sound as good as the Milk top black bottom Gateron switch.

I've been out of the loop on linears, seems like there have been a flood of decently smooth switches in the last year or so.

Do the Alpacas sound deeper than lubed vintage MX blacks? Or are Cherry housings still king for sound*?

* for MX style housings, lets not bring Alps into this  :D
