Title: Equalz One(TKL RGB kit)By C³(Made by EVE)
Post by: C³—Ears on Mon, 10 December 2018, 06:15:07
Hi Geekhackers, Long time no see.

Today, I want to present you with our lastest keyboard--------Equalz One

When we set up our RGB Pcb project, we been thinking one thing: What’s the best way to show those RGB leds? And of course, transparent material is one of the best ideas. But we also want to use aluminum body. This is how Equalz One is inspired.
Learned from Kmac2.0 we added another mode to assemble it. When we bring this ideas to EVE he helped us to perfect it by using removeable Positioning pillars. So now we have tray mount and plate mount. You can have 2 kinds of different type feeling. Also you can remove some of the positioning pillars to have different type fellings.
There’s a stable wood on top of the arrow keys, used for RGB leds. We add a blocker to cover it when you don’t want any light on top of it. And a small PC diffuser to show some back light of the PCB.
Enough talking let me show you some photo:

I know you guys are tired of waiting for GB keyboards.Sometimes you waited for a whole year for one keyboard. This time we pre-made this for you. However there will be a limit to this. We made 60 of one and our plan is to sell 30 on GH and 30 in China. But some didn’t pass QC and now we just have 20 to sell on GH. Here’s list:
White;10
Blue:   8
Purple:  2

Flaws:
Since this is pre-made we did found one flaw of this. There’s some deviation of the positioning pillars. It caused by CNC. We fix this problem by drilling the positioning hole bigger on the PCB. Here’s how it looks. If you really care about this, please don’t buy it.

You posted in the wrong forum.

It's in the right forum, we moved it here from Group Buys as these keyboards are already premade, and this thread is basically a sale.

Are keyboards artisans now? The op literally calls it a GB.

Oh well.

Nice keyboard. Ruined by whatever that thing is on the right side above the arrow cluster. Otherwise I would have picked it up.

It's a pre-made fully custom product sold by its maker in collaboration with C³—Ears.  Yes, they are considered "artisan" items.

Do you have any idea how fast shipping to the USA would be? Considering picking this up as a Christmas gift for my brother, but I'd need to make sure I have enough time to build it for him before Christmas  :thumb:

Took us sometimes to figure out the thing above the arrow keys. It's a stable wood to show some light and there's blocker to block it if you dont want it.

There's only 3 colors left to sell it here. It's all there.Since this is all made and packed already we not selling any extra PCB/plate. There's no need to buy another PCB. We have confident in our PCBs. And if you mess it up when soldering,i will sell you another PCB with good price.I have a bunch of them.

The spacing between the case and the keys seems uneven in some pictures. Is that just because those aren't finished builds (i.e. the keycaps are just resting on the plate)? Or is that an problem with the design?

Not finished builds. Didn't bolt together, so it looks uneven

Another couple of quick questions:
1. You said this has two mounting methods. Are these methods "tray mount" and "top mount w/ PC plate"? It looks as though the plate has holes for screwing into the case top, but it's hard to tell in the picture. Just curious since I've never used tray mount or PC plate before.

2. Do you know if this PCB is friendly to holtites installation?

Thanks for the quick buy. Looking forward to this.

1,Tray mount is without any plate, screw the PCB on those position pillars. Or you can use PC plate with top mount and screw into the case top(remove those position pillars). I recommend use tray mount with plate.

2, The PCB is not support kailh hotswaps. Others i havent tried. It's the best you just solder the switches on the PCB.

Thank you

I got mine today. Thanks for the fast shipping!

The finish looks pretty nice. The weight is similar to a TEX aluminum case: mid-light weight; it feels nice. It may be my ignorance on tray mount, but there seems to be a slight fitting issue in this configuration. It's only possible to put the top piece on when the PCB screws are loose because the top piece's bottom screw hole juts out enough that it can't slide past the PCB, but, once the top piece is on, the screws in the top of the PCB can't be accessed to tighten. I was planning on plate mounting, so that probably won't be an issue for me. The widened screw holes do not appear to affect tightness of the tray mount, which is good.

Just a tip for attaching the top and bottom pieces of the case: the short screws go on the north side of the case and the long screws go in the north side (towards bottom row).

Also, clarification on the stable wood blocker: the wood part has the logo carved into it. It's actually the metal square that slides up and down to block the light.

It will probably be a few weeks before I get to build mine, but I will power up the PCB and test it out later.

So far, I like it. Thanks for the fast and smooth buy, C3!

C³—Ears,

I have a problem with my PCB. When I activate a key on the left most column, the key below it is also activated. For example, if I press ESC, the tilde key is also pressed. If I press TAB, then CAPSLOCK is also pressed and so on. The only one that differs is left CTRL, it will also activate F12 when it is pressed. All other keys work correctly according to my testing.

I downloaded the LDN Config Tool from this thread (https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=95713.0) and I tried to switch the keymapping of the effected keys, but it still happened (I mapped ESC to A and Tilde to B, but it still pressed B when I pressed ESC [mapped to A]).

I do not see any physical damage to the PCB. Do you know if this is a firmware problem?

I appreciate any guidance you can provide.

Hi when you test it,use something isolation. Like use glove to cover your tweezers.
Our pcb is little bit different. You can't test it when electric going through your body.
If you soldered and have this problem please let me know.

I'm just about finished building mine.

A few takeaways...

First, the Equalz One is awesome--better than I expected. The anodizing is perfect as far as I can tell, and overall the design excellent. I bought the white and red option so I'm opting for SA Honeywell, which matches great.

There is an issue that wasn't pointed out by the OP: There aren't enough holes in the PC plate to allow you to tray-mount the PCB. As far as I can tell you have to either drill your own holes (not a big deal since it's plastic) or just stick with the plate-mount option, which is what I did.

I built mine with v2 Zilents and I have to say typing on a plate-mount PC plate is a new experience and incredibly satisfying. I've used aluminum plate mount keyboards, but not PC.

Yeah I am running into the same thing here. Kinda curious to include a plate thats not compatible with tray mounting the board lol.

I will probably just stick to plate mounting it as well

I'm running into a couple more issues:
While plate mounting is definitely doable, it's very difficult to keep the PC plate "snapped" into the mounts on the switches. I'm not sure if it's the width of the holes, or the PC material but getting it to stay where it should is a chore. Most of the time it wants to go back to resting against the PCB. I've never had this issue with metal plates.

Another issue I'm having is that when I press the Caps Lock key, the keyboard suddenly stop functioning and I have to unplug the keyboard and plug it back in to get it to start working again.  Only thing I can think of is maybe a firmware issue?

I do not see any physical damage to the PCB. Do you know if this is a firmware problem?

I appreciate any guidance you can provide.
Hi when you test it,use something isolation. Like use glove to cover your tweezers.
Our pcb is little bit different. You can't test it when electric going through your body.
If you soldered and have this problem please let me know.

Well, I thought it was an odd suggestion, but I tested the PCB again while wearing gloves, and it works fine. As soon as I touch the tweezers with my bare skin, it activates the other keys. I've never heard of that issue before, but, if it works when the keyboard is assembled, that's good enough for me. I'll let you know if I have any problems after soldering. Thanks for the tip!

Sorry i didnt say it clearly. when we design it,we want 2 kind of mounting type. The goal of this design is get rid of the plate when you using tray mount. so the plate is useless when you go tray mount. It only work when you use the plate mount.

Well, you should mount it on the top case when you using the PC plate. Use a long screw driver to screw it tight. it should work, i use a plate mount ONE myself.

I will have answers for the PCB problem later for you.

Well, i am glad it worked. Just let me know if there's any problem. Btw, how do you think of this board? Is it good or just so-so?

OK that makes sense. Thanks for clarifying!

Thanks for being so responsive, Ears. Also, do you know what key sequence toggles the LEDs?

I can't comment fully yet since I haven't built it, but I think the case and finish are really great, especially for the price. I also like the features on the PCB (per switch RGB, underglow, USB-C). I'm not sure what I will think of the PC plate, but I am excited to try it.

Use our software to control LEDs,or you can set a combo key to turn it on/off

Thank you! Any idea why my Caps Lock key would cause the keyboard to stop functioning?
