What sets this apart from something like the CU7 from capsunlocked?

- Knob
- Material (brass)
- Color
- Faster GB (maybe)  ;D
So then I would be interested depending on the price so kind of a paradox lol

Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

Will be announcing the price as soon as we have a prototype from the CNC company!
Is there a rough ETA on that or is it up in the air due to covid?

Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

I honestly can't give you a useful ETA until I get a prototype from the CNC company. If they can make it a high enough quality then the group buy might be starting in the next month or two otherwise it might be another month or two on top of that. It could even be sooner, I just don't know at the minute.
There'll be an update fairly soon, I've been making great progress with the PCB!

Beauty!

Please make sure there's no gap between keycaps and case on the final product, or it would look really bad :(

Posted this on Reddit already, but to ensure visibility, here it is again:

As for suggestions, it would be awesome to have a knob option with some texture on the sides of the knob rather than only on the top. Also, offering additional knobs to purchase separately in the GB would be stellar!

Ideas for additional knob/texture designs:

Really dig the new renders. I think I'd be in for a black one with either smooth or a notched wheel. If you end up doing an e-white option though I'd be in for that even more.

This looks good! Would also prefer 6-key over 3. Hopefully the encoder will work great! If the price is right, I might very well be hopping on!

If this is nicely priced, I am definitely going for this.

I would like a gray variant as well, though probably will pick the black as well. Just think a grey and brass scheme like the Atlas 5x12 would make this look awesome (and I get to match them, more reason to not miss this!)

Please try a 6 key version? That would transform this into an ultimate macropad that I, for one, can't afford to miss. I always wanted one with 2 rotary knobs and 6 keys but this one makes up for it even now.... So 6 keys would make it the endgame Macropad for me.

And maybe a slight angle? 2°?

EDIT: Keep that notched knob... <3

Ditto others re 6 keys! 3 keys good, 6 keys twice as good.

I think I'd prefer no indicator on the knob - it kind of loses it's meaning if there are no upper and lower bounds to the rotation.

There are already macro pads with knobs and more keys in the works. CU7 with 6 and Soap with 7.

Please keep this at 3. I wouldn't know what to do with 3 more keys and this makes me prefer it.

I agree that I prefer a 3 key version. I would absolutely find some use for more keys but I'd much rather have a smaller footprint.

I don't really mind 3 keys either... Though I want 6 keys... But still.
The Grey color and slight angle are a bit more important to me.

3 keys, 6 keys... I'm in either way. This thing looks dope, I got a split keyboard on the way, this thing can fit right in the middle just perfect.  :thumb:

Well I just filled out the form but I'm going to leave my comments from that here as well.

I'd love to see something like this with a stepped potentiometer in place of the rotary encoder. How possible this is I can't say as I'm not that familiar with what is involved in setting this up as an input option for a PC. All I can say is I still own a Pioneer stereo from the 1970's (an SA-7800) and NOTHING I have ever used feels as good as the volume knob on that thing. It feels exactly as heavy and precise as it should. It would be amazing to have that exact thing to use on a PC.

That's a really cool idea! I'm not sure if it would work in this form factor as the potentiometers tend to be fairly large. It could be an option for a future project though!

Yes you are right, I wasn't thinking about the issue of how thick that component actually is. Still enthusiastic about what is on offer here though, and if you do decide to work out a project in the future that does fit in a stepped potentiometer I'd definitely be all in there as well!

Free spinning magnetic rotary encoder

Does this mean that there is no resistance at all when turning the knob ?

That makes me very happy because I actually intend to use it as a stand-alone scroll wheel. I miss the Kensington Expert Mouse scroll ring on other trackballs and this seems like a great solution. Will it be heavy and smooth enough to have some momentum? (To let it spin freely if you nudge it hard enough.)

It should be, I've been playing around with the bearings I plan on using and they spin for about 1s. With the knob, there'll be a lot more momentum so it should spin for much longer!
I'll be posting a video of it spinning when I get the prototypes

It should spin really well, there aren't any parts that are in contact with each other. The only friction will come from the bearings
Here's a link to a test of the encoder chip - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1pPAv9PewBg512wwro1o7rLLC9ZoXgD3a/view?usp=sharing
There's a magnet at the end of the pencil but it's not actually in contact with the chip, there's a 1.5mm gap
