[IC] SA 1-1-2-3-4-2 profile keyset
« on: Tue, 03 April 2018, 12:21:48 »
Hi guys,

I come up with this idea this week, just post it here first to see if anyone share same interest as me.

I'm a flip-space user when I type on GMK keyset (also the Alt/Win key some time).
The reason is quite simple: when I click the space key with normal install keycap, I'm always hitting the edge of keycap instead of its surface comparing with a flipped space keycap.
It causes:
1. my thumb hurt
2. the space key is easy to be shining after long-time use since it is ABS

This week I assembled an ergo keycap and use a SA keyset.
I use two R4 shifts as space (2.25u and 2.75u), I flipped them and it feels much better than the regular SA R3 keycap.

So here comes the idea:
1. Design a normal keyset
2. Choose R4 instead of R3 as the bottom row of caps.
3. print the characteristics of last row by rotating 180 degree to make it factory-friendly

2. Choose R2 as the height of the bottom (since its angle is the revert-R4's)

---

A simple diagram to show:

1. Current:

2. The new design:

3. An example by SA Pulse

I'm wondering how many of you guys interested in this profile.

Personally,
1. I do not want to hit the edge of caps but the surface of them
2. The angle between my keeb and desk is not large
3. My wrist will be put on desk instead of in the air when typing

----

Edit: I'm focusing more on the SA profile currently.
The GMK can also work with this idea but the profile is not called as 1234 but abcd, also the R1 has angle already so you can flip them but the printing will be flipped at the same time.

hmm. no luck for the dsa users

If you're saying the bottom row will be shot upside down so they are right side up when you flip them, this would require new molds.
Why not just do 12342 since 2 and a reversed 4 have the same angle? It will still require molds though.

AFAIK legends can be flipped upside down without doing new plates for those. See SA Carbon, where some people received upside down bracket keys, which are on row 2.

OP should just rename to 112342, then it's all good and absolutely doable.

I have a couple SA keys from grab bags that are all wonky profiles, upside-down, etc. They look fine to me, besides being totally the wrong profiling.

i think it looks similar to mt3...i have heard split reviews...i agree with oblotzky's encouragement...don't give up on it...or at least don't give up on the ic

Also keep an eye out for SP's updated SA Family spec sheet due end of this month: I don't have any specifics on this, and to be taken as pure speculation/wishful thinking--perhaps someone in the know can chime in--but I'm hoping for an expansion on the convex R3 keys for precisely this reason. 2.5u/2.75u/3u R3 convex? Yes please.
