I definitely can't deny that LZ's red looks really good. I just really love the dark gray with red plate color scheme. I am still sticking firmly with my choice of red.

LZ typically caps at around 70, since he's pretty serious with QC. Wouldn't be surprised to see it go up to 100, but even that's a stretch.

Not where the bar clips into the stabilizer. It's a common stab mod where you jam the toothpick in from the bottom side into the part of the stab that clips into the PCB. This prevents the clip from contracting and popping out of the hole in the PCB.

If you put the lube under the bar, on the clip housing instead of where the bar clips in, the bar doesn't come unclipped so easily.

LZ is not a new maker lol, pretty much every board he runs maxes out as he always or almost always sets limits, then add in the craze for ergo boards currently, no way he thought it wouldn't sell well, thats just a bad response lol

Luckily vintage sets are mostly beige. I was originally planning on combining a set of Dell AT101 caps + IBM 5140 caps, but I see that there's 2x 1.25u caps needed to complete the board. I believe there are 1 or 2 boards that have it, but I don't think they're the easiest to get. Hunting for compatibility is part of the fun for alps :)

The last shipment I had from EMS was ~$70 (it was recent). Admittedly the overall cost for shipping and fees does seem higher but not really anything to anything to trip about.

I'm going in blind with this one. I bought an acrylic Alice style board to build and give the layout a try. However, given the unexpected price of the invoice, I'll probably end up selling the acrylic version before building it. I was hoping to give it a shot but don't feel like spending another $300 on switches, keycaps, etc. along with paying this invoice as well.

I have a split 65% keyboard, and I keep the halves tilted like the Alice style and prefer it that way. The biggest differences I see are some of the middle keys and the fact that the mods aren't tilted. So personally I'm excited to try this out

I am buying one of these from someone who was ready to give up their spot, and I'm getting an Alps plate, else I'd have just not commented and left everyone to their own devices. Why not inset and/or outset the Alps stabilizer inserts from the MX ones so you can support both alps inserts and MX stabs... that might prove to be impossible with this board (due to where the keycaps end up in relation to the top case piece?), but alps inserts and wires can technically be outset from the edge of the keycap (try not to if it isn't needed tho) as the wire can protrude beyond the edge of the keycap due to the costar insert sticking out below (or the standard Alps keycap insert for that matter) the keycap itself. Maybe a compromise can be made if anyone can work with LZ to check the plate file out for dual compatibility. I think if dual compatibility is not possible I'd personally tend to go toward maximum capability, which means Alps inserts, though if I'm the only holdout I'll vote with the rest of you for consensus even if it limits me to just DCS Alps sets, and the Rare DSA Alps sets.
Serious Question: I care about this subject myself and have previously suggested that Alps only PCBs support an MX screw-in stabilizer for the spacebar. That being said, the only place I usually ever have a hard time eliminating rattle completely is in a spacebar, particularly the 7u variety because the bar is stabilizing so much potential wobble relative to the wire's stability, but on the shorter (even 2.75u) keycaps I never have a problem. Why would we care to do it this way on the PhysiX? We don't have any stabs that you won't be able to get rid of rattle and major wobble on.
Note (#1): There are plenty of vintage alps boards that have 1.25u bottom row mods as someone was talking about being difficult to find, as well as plenty that have all the other makings for this board that can be combined to make a decent looking final keycap set... If you use PBT caps like from 5140 as someone else suggested, yellowing isn't an issue, as they're PBT. This board can, and if it supports them, likely will end up with a vintage set at some point during my ownership; but I'm weird and have a ton of Alps keycaps from harvested boards laying around.

Just my 2 cents, but buying a new alps set with MX stab mount is way easier than finding a combination of 1.5u 1.25u 1.75u with the right profile and a bunch of other ANSI mods that are not cheap laser engraved ones (AT101, Taihao). I like vintage alps boards, but I have no problem with high quality brand new doubleshot(DCS sets) and PBT(Kprepublic XDA, PMK) keycaps that fit easily into a more modern layout like LZ physix. This also means I don't need to rip keycaps from multiple vintage alps board that I have already converted to usb. That said this is exactly the problem with alps in this hobby, compatibility is always an issue and everyone's style differs. With respect to everyone who want alps cutout, I still strongly prefer mx cutout.

EEK! That was a significant herniation. I'm glad you had it taken care of. As someone else said, work on your core strength. You don't want to be "robodoc" like me and have a bunch of titanium in your back. I hope you are feeling much better now.

The Alps question he's referring to is the Alps stab vs MX stab cutouts on the Alps plate. I was running a survey among the Alps plate buyers to see which was preferred.
Hopefully you manage to run the Alps to MX stab inserts with DCS WoB so that this board can use those keycaps without any mods to the plate.

If i'm interpreting the weight file correctly then it is 2mm thick. Look in the top right.
The plate is probably 1.5mm tho, as that's the standard for MX switches

CNC production of CASE will be completed next week.
After inspection, anodization begins (First week of April)
#. The second sample of anodizing.
Proceed to final sample next week.
#. PCB production delay due to COVID-19
So the schedule posted in the spreadsheet is as of this writing:
1. CNC (End of March)
2. Anodizing (End of April)
3. Inspection n Sorting n Packing ( May 15)

That's ridiculous but i think also dependent if you have business shipping account. I only paid $75 for Taobao to ship me 13lbs of packages via dhl express and they even pack all the smaller boxes for me.

I wouldn't totally count it out. Translating the korean to english from the sheet it also says "Domestic delivery will be shipped immediately once the entire packaging is complete.".
I'm guessing he will ship stuff out asap so if there's left overs from the domestic shipping then it might be that he's working through the international orders too.

No shipping was already included during the original buy, for the duty fees I received a text from DHL with a method to "pay in advance", they can't receive payment at the door currently because of COVID-19...
I think there was a confirmation e-mail for addresses a few months ago? You should definitely check with LZ though cuz I can't remember if the address confirmation was for this GB or another...

from experience with tx and lz gray boards, their gray anodization has always been consistent, along with their black and red. i'm regretting not getting a red one as well.
forgot to mention that the mounting bits used is first of its kind in the keybs. it's like burger mount, but easier, and isolates the plate well. planning to build mine with lubed holy pandas!

Not to go down a rabbit hole, but I had a TX1800 in gray with poor anodization and also was in the LZ CLS GB where grays were problem children.
Also the 910 CE I got came out like brown/goldish gray.
It seems like this is increasingly more rare now though, I’m sure due in no small part to increasingly competent GB runners.

I'm still processing the fact it was packed in a case that probably costs more than most of my other keyboards, and that the case had LZ branded zippers. Also the sheer weight of the case, holy crap. And the LZ branded USB cable included.
Some people say Korean customs are overpriced, but they haven't held one. This thing has incredible attention to detail.

Oh actually thinking about it it's probably meant to keep the stabz' prongs spread, similar to how some people use small bits of toothpicks. Would make sense since the stabs arn't screw in.
On another note... whoever tightened the screws is at least as strong as hulk. Wasn't able to unscrew them with my small screw driver without worry of stripping the screws, going to try again tomo with better tools :)

I actually had to use a pipe wrench. I gripped the screwdriver with it, pushed down on the screwdriver with the other hand and used the wrench to loosen the screw.

No kidding. I also switched drivers so I wouldn't strip them. Every screw let out a loud crack before it turned, which was very worrying! It all worked out in the end though:

He's right. The larger bumpons don't fit into the indentations on the bottom of the board. I tried it, too, and it was clear once I did.

Does anyone know what the difference is between the two gasket types (white and black)?
They feel the same, I though it was just for colour preference :P ... anyone know anything about the little rubber/plastic pieces that came with the stabz? (not the heatshrink tube)
The little clear wedges that came with the stabs are used to keep the clip in stabs nice and firm - I go this pic from LZ.

Yeah I just figured that out 😅 they have borders so they actually do fit perfectly.
This is a really beautiful board! CF plate is one hell of a satisfying typing experience too.

I noticed the same thing and did not remove my plastic film for that reason.

I removed the plastic from mine without any issue.
(Built with a CF plate)
IIRC stainless isn't super conductive either when properly treated.

I know of one user who was getting shorts in a certain part of the pcb when she removed the plastic film from the weight (so she put it back on).

I mean, sure. Not that I need an excuse or don't have more keyboards coming. :) But GMK stabs seem to be very hard to come by right now. Zeal/Durocks have wire-pop issues. C3 V2 stabs are pretty good but aren't in stock anywhere, AFAIK.
Would be nice to hear if somebody else had good luck with the plate mount + shim setup. Then again, I don't want to be the first to try on this particular endgamey build.

i am using them and they are good. with the plastic shims, they aren't going anywhere. you have to force very hard for the shims to go in all the way tho.

Yeah, for the avoidance of doubt, it's always easy to put the liner (or a replacement liner) back on the SS in the unlikely circumstance you get shorting. Shorting is usually indicated by multiple characters coming up from a single keypress on certain keys.

I have the PC plate and zealios v2 with the tops swapped for marshmallow tops!

I think it was definitely somewhere in the comments they posted it. But wish it was in the first post. fn+r is what you are looking for and I think QMK has some standards on how to get into reset mode (such as holding Esc when plugging it in)

With the weight it felt as if the switch pins were resting on the weight resulting in a harsh bottom out. Not at all what I had anticipated with a PA plate. Moreover, the sound profile of the vintage browns was not what I had expected either. They sounded high pitched and harsh. Given the absence of flex, despite a very soft plate, I decided the weight must be too close for comfort, so I removed it. Everything immediately turned out just they way I had foreseen it with a pleasing sound signature and a nicely bouncy feel.
Great little keyboard, LZ!

the new PCB samples were approved at the end of last week, so they should be assembling/shipping the rest of them in the next 1-2 weeks. I'm not sure if there will be a delay from the upcoming Chinese National Day holiday, but it's possible.

Mine worked after soldering. Shouldn’t need to do anything else. Try desoldering and switching the LED wires opposite how you have them now.

I suspect the issue is caused by static electricity, but it seems to be a new problem, somehow. We went through the worst of the cold and dry season here with worse static without any issues. Now, in the past week or two, this happens fairly often.
Anyone else having a similar problem? Any ideas about fixes or workarounds for it?

Didn't have the weight installed. Just tried lining the area under the PCB with paper and wrapping the USB port with electrical tape. We'll see if it helps or not.
I'm not super optimistic, but I guess we'll see.

Yeah, I'm on my fourth USB cable, including the LZ one included with the board. Issue seems to happen with all of them, perhaps worse with one of them than the others. Tough to say with an intermittent issue.
I have another build based on a second PCB and plate. May swap that over if the paper and electrical tape don't work. Honestly, though, I really want this build to work properly. Ugh.
