The time has finally come people! Its The Ave. Group Buy!! The ultimate, sexy, cute, and powerful, ortholinear-battlestation!
So things have changed a lot in the past month or so. Here are some main points of note...
1st:
E-Yellow has been tossed out for options just due to its complicated nature and that I know sometimes it can come out looking more Orange than Yellow. All of us are pretty tough and picky when it comes to colors and without a full and final prototype finished in E-Yellow, I just dont feel comfortable with going through with having it be availible and then people getting upset when it didn't turn out like they expected. No one likes that.
In its place, however, I have spoken with the factory and Sandblasted Polycarbonate will be subsituting the E-Yellow!
Which I know a lot of people wanted and Im excited to be able to offer it for the first big Ave GB! :D
2nd:
the second notable change is that now, every single base kit configuration will come with BOTH a full brass Plate set and a full FR4 (PCB Material) Plate Set! Options are nice, but having them distributed all over the place isnt lol. SO NOW YOU GET BOTH SON.

After an amazing response from the community I've kicked The Ave. into high-gear. Almost everything is finalized and GB "Details" can be found at the bottom of the Page. Thank you to all who have helped this idea come to life. Over 1k Form responses... I can't describe the amount of love I have for this community and all those who have directly helped me in this project.

If you have ever been around professional studio workstations, or have seen them in TV or Movies before, you will notice instantly the inspiration for The Ave.

Now I've used 40% from the first moment I jumped onto this crazy train of a hobby. Something about the simplicity of 40's boards instantly drew me in. And after the few months of frustration and re-learning to be a better typist. I have found nothing to be as comfortable as 40-60% ortholinear keyboards.
They are without a doubt, The Thicc Bee's Knees.

The rotary encoder is a fun touch, itd be interesting to see other controls in the top row as well. The mixer in the first post has me thinking about sliders, toggle switches, joysticks, x-y pads... etc.

Personally, I like how sharp and straight everything is. Very boxy like an old Volvo, feeling very durable looking. It almost looks inspired by brutalist architecture. Functional, overbuilt, hefty.
This IC clearly isn't for you.

Why are you offended on OP's behalf? Calm down. The fact I'm even addressing this is completely ridiculous but alas;
Firstly, it's BLATANT that I was referring to an opinion without having to elongate the response for no reason. In my opinion, ortho sucks. Obviously I'm not stating ortholinear as a whole is a disgusting practice and everyone should be ashamed for liking it, you inferring that from my statement is showing bias on your end if nothing else.
You have absolutely not business telling me if an IC is for me or not, especially after I specified that I love the design and want the project to be successful, I believe (in this case I think it to be factual so if you wanna attack anything, do it here) that'll be an easier road if a staggered plate+PCB being offered is a possibility without straying too far from the original idea(s) and/or being cost prohibitive.

A Standard 40% Stagger Option will be available. However, it will be an additional cost. Plate+Staggered PCB.
I've discussed this will dozens of people on the Reddit thread and Discord discussion and its been a WIP for a while now. :)
The Staggered option is same as Daisy & asymmetrical bottom row. :thumb:

Probably! If this design ends up working out well, I dont see any issues offering a few different Acrylic colors (Black Frosted, Clear, Beige Maybe, etc.)

And The Upper section does indeed have its own PCB. I Just didn't include that in the pic. The top and bottom PCBs connect using a fairly standard JST connector. :)
Again, The PCB's are both Through-Hole style DIY builds with Breakout board to rear of case. This Keeps that "retro" aesthetic intact and prominent, and allows us to include some fancier things Like Through-Hole, Terminal-Mounted LEMO Connectors and Some other fancy add-ons.

NO Soldermask (or "Clear") would be pretty cool honestly. Right now we are looking at Either, Green, White, or Yellow PCB with Gold Surface Finish. Should be really pretty.

Since I have access to a laser cutter, I'm quite keen on this 3mm acrylic panel idea of yours. Sharing design files would allow others such as myself to laser-engrave text/imagrey/designs/patterns. One important thing for me is the possibility to cut holes on the bottom panel for screw-in case feet, since I like my orthos to have an angle. :)

Is this a 40% planck like on the bottom or a 50% Preonic type? Im in 100% for a 50%. Im out for a 40%.
As a whole, The Ave. is a 50% Keyboard.
The main typing area is a 12-Column/4-Row Layout just like the 40% Planck. To the left is a 4-Key Macro column, and the top is where a Rotary Encoder, Esc Key, And 3 Extra right hand keys sit.

First off, Price is still being worked on, mainly in shipping and packaging. I'm really wanting to do my dream board right and get some really nice packaging. Unboxing experiences may not appeal or be of a priority to some. But they are to me.

Im thinking of doing maybe 5-10 custom powder coat ones. At an additional cost of course. I need to get a quote this week from a local body shop Ive done business with before.
And Im still thinking on the sale type I want to do. FCFS is easier speed and invoice management wise, but as someone with slower than average Internet speed, a Raffle is something I always personally preferred. Raffle also seems the fairest.
Ill should probably make the form and take opinions from everyone. I will, however, announce a decision on it a good bit of time before the GB.

I love your design and concept. I just wish it was in a more practical format like TKL or even 100+%. I find a lot of these boards are really pretty and great fun to build but ultimately you end up using something else to work on.
That said, I love that you are doing something different from the standard 60% that is now just saturated with keebs.
I think its judt a matter of getting used to whatever layout you want to get to get used to.
I have written all of the code, done all of the CAD, and PCB design of The Ave., as well as all my other boards and projects, solely with 3 various 40% keyboards. (Prime_e, Zlant, Lets Split).
They are extremely practical to me and Ive never wished they were any more than they were to be begin with.
Just practice, and adjustment. :)

It was my first dive into Sheet Metal Design. So I have no idea how bad or good the design is.
It was/is a fun thing to get into though. Interested to work on it in the near future. Especially with seeing and trying out the SKB boards.

The 1.5u isnt meant to be convex, I colored it that way just to show what space would be taken up/filled by the various key sizes. the 2.75/2u keys are meant to be the main spacebars. :)

Yes GB Ortho PCB and Plate will support x2 2u. Just wanted this for Proto on personal taste.
And polycarbonate has been redacted for this first round while I evaluate the design to take more advantage of PCs features.

No Polycarbonate Mainly because I want to do some more work on the best process for inset brass (or likewise) threading. I know PC is strong but I personally would want Metal to metal threading.

Oops. I meant will you have different GB times so people could try to get into both GBs if they wanted?Round 2 is mainly set to be beige and polycarbonate focused.Music to my ears. I know it's a little early, but would you consider staggering the PC and and beige GB times to give people a chance to pick up one of both if they're interested?
