[IC] Lin Works Whale 75
« on: Sun, 29 November 2020, 11:16:05 »
Hello.

This is Kevin Lim from Lin Works.
First of all, thanks to your support, I was able to finish the Montage project.

Now, I drafted the next Geekhack IC for the “Whale 75”.
It’s a 75% layout board combined with our previous board design, “Whale”

First when we planned this project, we only considered the classic 75% layout. But we got so many requests on putting a knob on the layout. And we considered market trends with different brands, which we found to be the same.

So, here is our answer for these requests, on behalf of Lin Works. We will give you the choice.

“Hybrid”

– PCB will be compatible for both: with and without knob.
You will have to make your choice on the top case layout. Either for a Knob or an F13 key.

The GB will be happen on our Discord and Instagram.

Here’s the details of this keyboard.

1. Name: Whale 75
2. Angle: 9 degree
3. Material: Alu
4. Weight: 2.0 kg total as unbuilt kit
5. Standard kit: Top and bottom case. PCB. Brass weight. (Brushed and clear-coated?)
6. Mounting method: Sandwich
7. Color Offerings – Silver / Black / Burgundy Red / Military Green / Lavender Purple
8. GB date: Dec. 19th 00:00 ~ 23:59 (1 day)
9. GB period: Will announce later after we get the final order qty.
10. Quantity: We will accept all orders within 1 day.
But if the order exceeds our capacity, there is a possibility that we will have to close the form sooner.
11. Order limitation
 – We will allow 1 of each layout.
 - This will be only for international buyers.
   (한국분들은 린웍스 블로그를 통해 별도 진행)
12. Price: 550 USD
13. Top Case Layout – 2 layout (Knob type or F13 type)
14. PCB – QMK and VIA compatible. Please check more detailed specifications below:
* Programmable via QMK and VIA
* 75% form-factor
* Centered top side USB-C connector
* Break-away USB port and JST connector to use with or without daughterboard
* ANSI and ISO layout, split and 2u backspace, regular or tsangan bottom row
* Rotary encoder (Alps EC11 style) or F13 key in top right
* Addressable RGB underglow (18 LEDs)
* Single-color 3mm in-switch-LEDs
* 3 indicator LEDs
* Powered by STM32F303C MCU
* No physical reset/boot switch - just bridge-able pins
* Native USB bootloader - no need for programming dongles

Collaboration

We are happy to announce that we are going to work with 3 artisan makers for this Whale 75 project.

Each artisan makers made the color way choice for whale 75. They will come up with the matching colorway of their works.
-    Hello caps : Burgundy Red “Bongo”
-    Alphakeys : Military Green “Keypora”
-    CYSM : Lavender Purple “Keyby”

-    Each order with the payment is completed, will get raffle entry as their choice.
-    All the entry will be randomly selected between 3 brands.
-    For those who buys each layout, will get 2 entry.
-    We will allocate the total number of the sculpt into 3 different groups.
      : Knob / F13 / Korean Local GB

* The plate on the render is just space holder. The plate will be covering ISO/ANSI.

it literally isn't identical, the spacing between the two is different and the rightmost cluster is 3 keys instead of 4. that said, neither layout is really that original; since the success of the satisfaction 75 the separated arrows and cluster have come into vogue

Nice side profile, but I'm a little over just throwing a knob on there for ****s and giggles.

Otherwise, nice exploded 75

There are a lot of 75% boards, and they are all going to have extremely similar layouts since they are... all 75% layouts. That being said, idk why you chose to pick GMMK's keyboard to claim it's "literally" the same. The right function cluster is "literally" a different number of keys.

What does the numlock led do? This is a 75% keyboard and I don't know that it needs the numlock led coz only full size or 980 layout keyboard with numpad need that led indicator. Can someone pls clarify on this? Thanks

What about the keyboard dictates 550 USD? Normal whale was a lot less than this. Not good

Probably going to get hated on for this - - -

If this wasn't a Korean maker then you guys would have been malding very hard. Just because they're Korean and they have made keyboards in the past doesn't mean they are entitled to raise the price by so much.
