Geekhack backspace key
« on: Wed, 09 March 2011, 15:40:29 »
Yes, another thread related to the Round 3 group buy organised by 7bit. This time a doubleshot backspace key featuring "geekhack" in a similar font and logo to the header at the top of the forum. Made by Signature Plastics it is intended to match the other sets in round three.

My hope is that it will look something like this:

With completion of round three being close and this being a recent addition I thought that it needed a bit of extra publicity. 7bit has said that he will enquire about prices but votes are already being taken on these colour options (How to vote).

Big thanks to 7bit and iMav for all the work that they have put (and have yet to put) into the round three group buy.
Smaller thanks to the person whose keyboard photo I stole months ago that ended up being used for the mock-up at the top of this post. ;)

wrt Geekhack branding, is the backspace key REALLY where you want the Geekhack name?  For instance:

1. Real Geekhackers don't NEED a backspace key.  (insert snide comment on slave-ish devotion to hhkb2 and other minimalist keyboards here)
2. Would "I made a mistake and need to erase it and start over, press the 'Geekhack key'", sound right?

Just a thought!

OOh!  Here's a thought = A Geekhack emblem that replaces the Backspace key while also disabling it.  THAT would be cool.  The bragging rights would be, "and YES, I use my keyboard on a daily basis with that keycap replacement on it".

That's more thought than I put into that side of things. All I wanted was a big enough key that would appear on both ANSI and ISO keyboards. Where else could it go, shift? Surely not Caps Lock?! ;)

I told 7bit 2 days ago about making a right shift with Geekhack when he told about the possibility of making a guilleguillaume 2,75 right shift. Enter geekhack sounds nice too but you are making things impossible to ISO layouts.

Backspace sounds good to me.

Anyway I think that if there is no white on blue that matches the white on blue gaming kit I will pass since I will want a white on orange and white on light blue.

Ok, CapsLock then... it's just about useless for most people.
Though having said key on the right side would be a plus, IMHO.

I'm off for holly days until Sunday 20th March 2011!

The vote-system will work without me. Just send your order lists to me, 7bit_vote.

You will get some statistics from time to time.

Don't ask 7bit or me any questions during that time. We will not answer!

There will be no update of payment status. Anybody should keep track of that themselves! It is sufficient to pay when I'm back again.

For questions, please read the first post in the main thread.

Have a lot of fun ...
