The new spumoni Clack has started a debate at my house.
We can all agree that spumoni is triple-layered ice cream, of a vaguely Italian origin, with the following three layers: Chocolate, Pistachio and Cherry.
However there is difference of opinion as to the proper colors of the layers, and the order of the colors, apparently depending on what part of the USA you're from.
I have always had
bona fide New York City Spumoni which has the layers in this order: Cherry (Pink), Pistachio (beige with greenish pistachio nuts), and Chocolate (brown). Like this:
My wife on the other hand is from Boston, and apparently those chowder-heads like to dye their Pistachio layer green, like this:
^ this is wrong, btw. But I can accept it.
More troubling however, is this:
They put cherries in the pistachio layer, and they have added an apparent 4th layer of vanilla. One of my friends thinks this is "real" spumoni, because he thinks spumoni is supposed to look like the flag of Italy:
But clearly this is wrong because the layers would be Green Pistachio, White Vanilla, and Pink Cherry. So why have chocolate at bottom? Makes no sense.
And then we have this type of thing:
Which is the worst of all: the mish-mash.
Anyway, regardless of how you think spumoni ice cream should look, I really want that new spumoni clack, so start PM'ing me your ridiculous offers.
