Modding the Droid 4 (xt894) to BE OFF, reliably.
« on: Tue, 30 April 2019, 01:15:36 »
We cannot trust phones to turn off via software, so we have to cut the power.

The 'elegant' way would be to break contact on one pole and wire a micro spst switch and mount somewhere on the case.  If someone finds a suitable switch with high current capacity, let me know.  I didn't.

Lacking this, I considered how to mod my Droid 4 to reliably turn-off.  And came up with a simple solution.

1) Find appropriate torx screwdriver and unscrew battery leads.  No, we're not removing it, Motorola.

2) Cut a piece of stiff foam from some packaging.

3) Should be about ye-high for good contact.

4) When you reaffix the back cover (with some pressure) you will have battery contact.

To turn phone off, slide cover off, remove foam and put it in your wallet or somewhere where it won't get lost.
