so everthing is recessed inside the cap?

Looks like a hollow cap was cast, inside was painted with parts tacked in place either with a tiny bit of resin or paint, and clear epoxy or resin was poured into the cap and let to cure.

I was wondering about that. Is the top a uniform profile or is there a raised section where the clear resin is?

That's a nice mix of old and new :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Slight bubble

I saw Hoff's in person, and it is a thing of beauty.  I also worry that the slight bubble in the clear resin will get scratched easily.  You might want to consider cutting a screen protector or something to overlay to protect it if you're keeping it on a board.
I'm back.
