"Kudos" system?
« on: Tue, 29 December 2015, 23:15:28 »
Apologies if this has already been suggested.

Some sites have functionality where posters can mark a post as a question, and then click a button to mark someone's post as "helpful" if it pointed them in the right direction, or as an answer, if it answered their question. Points are awarded, with some points given for "helpful" posts, and even more given for posts marked as the "answer" to a question. Users, after reading the original post, can click a link to go to the answer. (Or the answer would be in some other way made obvious.)

This gives credit to those on our site who have helped others, and, unlike a simple upvote/downvote system, can't be gamed (as easily) since the functionality would be available only to the OP of a question.

It also makes answers easier to find.

Just my two cents on what could make a great site even better! :)

Most simple questions have simple answers and appear in the respective thread along with an index and links.

Almost anything else turns into a long discussion with lots of input, where rarely is there a single post that answers the original question.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Well.  That answers that.

Kudos.
