For the second keyboard, did you cut the rubber dome sheet to mix the 45 and 55g?

Realforce boards don't use a sheet, they use strings of domes ranging from 1u to 4u long. Depending on how vesper reassembled the board, he may have had to cutout a dome or two but there shouldn't have been a ton of modding required.
People in the 1980s, in general, were clearly just better than we are now in every measurable way.

The dumber the reason the more it must be done

Oh alright. I based my assumption on my experience with my Novatouch. I thought all Topre board were done that way.  :)

Thanks.

It changes from board to board, I think type heavens may also use a sheet.

Some use a sheet actually, some don't. Not really sure why there's inconsistency but I've taken apart five boards now and the 106UW-KW and 104UW used a sheet for everything except the large keys/bottom row, the 104UB-DK had a split sheet for alphanum, then strings everywhere else, and I forgot what the 45g/55g 87Us were but I think one was a sheet with singles for large keys/bottom row, and the other was mostly strings.

edit - looks like i need to re-enable the post warning now that clackvent is over ;)

I wonder if it has an effect on the board or if it is just pure design choice that doesn't matter in the end.

Decided to grab a Novatouch. Haven't typed on it enough to express my feelings properly yet, but it feels quite nice so far!
Show Image

There are still so many boards I would love to try and this one is near the top of the list.  If CM ever releases a 55g version I'm gonna go bonkers.

Really nice keyset as well, b7ad!  When/where did you acquire that?

The Novatouch is definitely a nice board. It is my daily driver since I bought. However it requires some mods to take advantage of his full potential IMO like a silencing mod. His stabs are just so loud and the key upstroke could need some silencing to be honest. That's I did and it is really nice.

Here is my HHKB.

It is normal one with the dental band mod and a mx stem on the escape key.

I am not liking that the clack is higher then all the other caps =(

I may put the old one back and just trade for a torpe clack.

Dustin's is 45g uniform but mine is currently variable but I've got 45g and 55g domes I could mod it with.

As far as comparing to a TKL, I'm of the opinion its pretty much the same just bigger, of course my TKL is modded also so it may not be a fair comparison.

Yeah I always thought 55g was the best topre but I've found using the silenced and lubed boards I have now I like the 45g on the 87U with 55g on the 23U. Right now this variable board is yet to be decided on.

Exquisite.

Absolutely exquisite :)
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

... my heart

<3

Nice naasfu, how's the range on it? Can't wait to get mine, supposed to get made towards the end of the month/early next month

The range is really good.  I was able to use the HHKB with my laptop from at least around 20 feet away.

Exquisite.

Absolutely exquisite :)

Wireless HHKB is a dream come true.  I love being able to use the HHKB with my laptop without having to deal with a USB cable.  Really really nice!
a cute stray cat combination that comes out happily when you look at your face is cute

Decided to try some low light shots, also just got my new mimic cable (gunmetal grey with white ends). It's awesome, will take some proper pics with it later.

Those are some beautiful photos.  What color are the caps on the black HHKB?  Are they just the white HHKB blank set?  They look really nice with the low lighting.

It's all the white HHKB, and yes just the white blank set on there. Just got an app for my phone that allows me to set the camera settings manually so have been having some fun with that :)
