I'm not very impressed by the warped spacebars on my set + spacebar kit
Nice colours tho, definitely the best looking set I've seen

UPDATE: I asked Mykeyboard.eu about this and they asked me and others to post pictures of their warped spacebars in this thread. They will take this up with GMK.  :thumb:

I don't know why GMK just don't acknowledge the ****ty spacebars. Every GB has warped keys. No need to gather more information. Just make new space bars to every participant and fix your manufacturing process.

My GMK WoB from Drop had also very ****ty spacebars. The last time when they where perfect, was GMK Nautilus. They go a bit downhill. :(

It's so bad it's noticable even before I got it out of the tray.

I have the same warping issue on my spacebars as well, unfortunately:

6u off-center-stem white spacebar

6.25u white spacebar

6.25u gold spacebar

7u white spacebar

7u gold spacebar

For comparison's sake, this is an old 7u spacebar from GMK Oblivion R1:

I don't want  to sound like a broken record, but when you claim to have warped spacebars, can we at least verify that it has an impact first?

I had warped 9009 spacebars if you placed on a flat surface, but there is no interference or issue when you actually used them. Also, once put on a board, you could not see any visual issues.

I presume people actually use spacebars rather than just put them on display cases to show off how flat they are.

I think the issue is that the price for the base kit was 124$, extra spacebars were like 25$, and most people got another kit or two. Spending 200$ on a set of keycaps for a keyboard, you kind of have an expectation for quality, and with how warped those bars are, that expectation is not being met.

If all people cared about was basic function of the key - to press down on the switch and actuate it - then people would just go get a 25$ set of cheap ABS keycaps.

I have the same issue with my 9009. But GMK fanbois would defend it.

I suppose it may vary from person to person. Some people in this thread appear to have less warping than I do, while others seem to have more. So I can only speak for my own stuff below:

Here is GMK Classic Retro (non-warped spacebar). For reference, the bottom of the spacebar is fairly in-line with the surrounding case.

When swapping in the GMK Cafe gold spacebar, even if you press down pretty hard across the entire surface, it's never quite level. Especially after some short-term usage you can start to see it ride up a bit.

During one test when I was hitting it repeatedly, it became partially dislodged on the other side:

I tried using it normally for maybe a couple of hours, and honestly, for the most part it's fine. That said, I occasionally get strange-feeling presses when the bar shifts a little, and I have to press the whole thing down again. The most obvious thing though is the front aesthetic - that becomes uneven very quickly, though some may not care about that as much. It's sort of hard for me to ignore (personally) so I'm going to try to flatten them out. Not a huge deal -- but I do hope it's an issue GMK can fix in future sets.

What does the comment about someone buying child kits have anything to do with spacebars? Does someone who buys the novelty kit become more deserving of straight spacebars than someone who buys just the base kit?

The expectation is that they work correctly and without issue and also look straight when placed on a keyboard. If you have the expectation that they must also be perfectly straight when you display them, then you should confirm with the GB runner that they will meet that expectation before you order.

Technically there is no physical relationship between child kits and space bars. But space bars are part of the base kit and there is an assumption about the quality of the base kit that helps justify the purchases of the child kits. When something integral about the base kit falls short, it makes one a bit more upset they threw money at the child kits.

That being said, I bought Café and received it a few days ago. I have warped space bars in the base kit and the alt alphas kit. sigh.

I just wish GMK manufacturing and QA would improve.

My kit has some slight warping with my space bars too, but so does the last 10 GMK sets I’ve received (not important, but it’s a expectation at this point). I put them on the board and they look straight and work exactly how I expect so I don’t mind. Not saying others should or shouldn’t care, but my expectations are met for a ~$3 piece of colored plastic.

Just received my cafe, and all my space bar are warp as well, it makes the space key sticky or not returning...
This to me is unacceptable, especially at its price point. None of my previous sets from last year had this issue.

Everyone,

There are clearly issues with the spacebars of this set for some, if not many people. Please continue to post pictures of the issues so we can share them with GMK as we work with vendors to correct these issues. I would like to get everyone the product they expected. Please be patient with me - I'm working on it <3

That's pretty disgusting.

Is this what we should expect from GMK now? I'm sure I'm done with them.

Hey everyone,

It's hard for me to associate geekhack usernames with orders placed on CannonKeys.

So, with that in mind, if you ordered from CannonKeys and have any issues with your GMK Cafe set, PLEASE send in a support ticket containing:
1. images of the warped spacebars on a flat surface / images of the issue you are seeing
2. your order number.

Without this information, I can't easily track this issue. I'll gather information for a couple weeks then send it along to GMK.

Once that's done, we'll see what GMK has to say.

Thanks,
Upas

I couldn't find a link on the cannonkeys website. So I emailed support. Hopefully that will be ok.

LOL. It's straight when it is sitting flat against flat surface. Anything else = warped.

Imagine buying a new car with dents on it and the seller is like:
"CaN WE aT LeasT vERIFY THAt IT has AN IMPacT fIRsT?
If YoU HaVe THE expECTAtioN ThAT theY MUST AlSo be peRFECTLy StRAIGHt When yOu DIsPlAY theM, thEn yoU sHOuLd conFiRm wITH the gb rUNNER thAt they WILL meEt thAT ExPEctatIOn bEFore you ORDeR."

I have bought a ton of Lego for my kids and every single piece has been straight. And I expect every single piece to be flat and fit to other pieces nicely. How can kids toys have better quality than small production run of caps that some people use to do work.

If it is so focking hard to do straight caps then adjust the price accordingly. Now it's clearly a gamble but GMK, designers and vendors will never say this. So it's impossible for buyers to adjust theirs expectations.

I have the same warping issue on my spacebars as well, unfortunately:

For comparison's sake, this is an old 7u spacebar from GMK Oblivion R1:

I have the same issue with my 9009. But GMK fanbois would defend it.

Nobody is defending that the bars aren't crooked.

I think he's talking about how people are saying it doesn't matter and very dismissive of the spacebar issue while also criticising the spacebars of PBT sets.

I am not a long time in this hobby, but an easy fix I have seen is to just use boiling water. Why is there so much backlash if that is an easy fix? Mind you my spacebars are warped too, I am just genuinely curious.

Because you should not get scuffed product when paying such a high price. You dont buy a car and accept faulty things do you? It does not matter if fix is easy or hard, but mentality to accept such things will only make this issues continue and increase on every set. GMK needs to accept and fix this.
