Had some beer from Utah the other day... beer from Mormon country. Surprisingly good. Squatters Hop Rising Double IPA. Unlike the slew of IPAs these days, this one was incredibly well balanced instead of tasting like pressed pine cones. If you like IPA and see in at the store I don't think you would be sorry you picked some up.

Uinta is a Utah brewery.  They have many beers that are quite nice.

I do miss those balanced IPAs.  It seems like they're impossible to find on the West Coast.  The more piney and/or dank and/or citrusy (and by that I mean tasting like citrus rind) they are, the more popular they seem to be here.  No nuance to them.  No herbal, earthy, passion fruity, tropical fruit, or other subtle notes.

Don't get me wrong, I like aggressive IPAs, just not all the time.  Even Dogfish Head 90 Minute seems more balanced than most West Coast IPAs.

Yep, Founders out of Michigan. We just started getting their beers here in TX about a year or two ago. I like the Prairie Bomb a little better but it's expensive @ $8.50 a 12oz. bottle.

Speaking of balanced IPAs, Double Dog has a nice malty backbone that helps balance out the hops and Racer 5 is a West Coast IPA that's not too hoppy to me.
SSKs for everyone!

That's one thing I love about Alpine, their IPAs like Nelson & Duet are so smooth & well balanced imo... but I do have to admit I also love the really in your face IPAs like Stone's Enjoy By, RuinTen, or Knee Deep Simtra Triple IPA. Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA is a lot more mellow with a nice fruity flavor and has been pretty easy to find, so it's been a staple day-to-day brew, along w/Sculpin. Racer 5 is a good one too!

Finally got my hands on a Mocha Wednesday, a delicious, oh so rich, decadent dessert of a beer - I don't think I could make it through a whole bottle but it might be fun to try one day!

only had my potato cam on me :(

I'm just a little envious of my friend's cellar right now:

Matt, this was shared with 6 people tonight, so thanks from all of us! I want some more....

I'm at home tonight. I didn't bother posting because my beverage is uneventful. Regular bottle of Guinness Draught. I need to return to the store for something more and different though. My normal choices are stout and ipa. I do enjoy some porters as well.

Not taken that way at all. I guess that's just my poor wording. Also it appears we have the same desk. Mine is ready to be replaced. I've had it since 2004 and it has seen days of abuse and neglect.

That keyboard tray was not the sturdiest thing, that's for sure. Lost mine pretty quick myself. For the price this thing has been amazing but I have outgrown it. I think if I were to resurface the top it would make a great little writing desk.

That Guinness was my last beer in the house and I decided not to leave anywhere since the helicopter was up the street with the spotlight going. Switching to the Makers. No beer and desks and I'm two off topic.

The Banquet Beer, Coors Original, for the win.  To be honest, Coors Original is my favorite cheap beer.  I used to be a beer snob, but living in my neighborhood without easy access to the craft brews has reverted my taste in beers equal to that of a college sophomore.  There is this ghetto liquor hut a couple blocks away, and I frequent that when I'm thirsty.

Yeti Imperial Stout. Looks almost like Hershey's syrup when poured.

It's beer week in the bay and yesterday was the annual Sour Sunday. In protest of the long lines a buddy and I decided to throw our own.

Looks like a great tasting Jwaz! Some friends of mine did one recently, had some good stuff - I think the Maple Bacon Coffee Porter & BCBS Coffee side-by-side with Mocha Wednesday were the standouts of the night.

space is not a vacuum; it will not clean your carpet

it was a Magic Hat heart of Darkness stout... not amazing, but still a decent tasting beer...
