I got my Ultra Compact F104 today and WOW, what a beast! It's so heavy and well-built. Assembly (i.e., putting in the stabilizer inserts and keys) was straightforward, although I read the entire how-to guide on the Model F website several times and watched the entire setup video. I had a few stabilized keys that needed some attention and my numpad enter was spamming keystrokes until I re-seated the spring, but otherwise I didn't have any major issues.

I ended up floss-modding mine. I intended to try it out sans floss first, but from the moment I got the spacebar installed, I knew I couldn't handle it. The ping is just so intense! I don't like the pinging on my Model M, and this seems about twice as bad. However, with the floss mod, I like the sound. I don't think it's amazing sounding like some of my Alps keyboards, but the click sound is very clean and cool sounding. It definitely sounds uber-mechanical.

So far, the key feel isn't blowing me away, but I felt the same way about genuine Topre switches when I first tried them and after a few days, they became my favorite. I like the very clean tactility of the Model F keys, but the weighting is a bit light for my taste. I prefer the weight of the Model M's switches. However, I will have a more well-formed opinion after a few days typing with this keyboard.

Overall I'm kind of astonished that I was able to buy a brand-new Model F in a never before seen form factor. I think the look of the Ultra Compact F104 is awesome, and I think it's amazing that Ellipse was able to pull this all off. I always wanted to try out a Model F, and several years ago, I missed out on a good deal on an F122, but I really don't like any of the original layouts. This is a dream come true and I am seriously considering one of the Classic 104 or 122 key layouts in the future. Major, major props to Ellipse to bringing this project to fruition!

I got mine in black with grey keys. Here are some pictures:

What am I missing out on using a pot to cook my rice? Rince, 2 cups water, 1 cup rice, add salt, bring to simmer, cover for 15 min, off heat for 5 minutes, fluff and serve. What would a rice cooker change if I already enjoy the texture of my rice?

The main thing I like about mine is having access to warm rice all day. You can make some in the morning, and if you are puttering around the house all day, it keeps it moist and fluffy so you don't need to reheat. Also, just generally more automatic. Because it has internal sensors, I just fill it and walk away until I hear it play Greensleeves. No stirring, no lids, no drips, no overboil.

2:1 ratio for rice is just wrong, idk where this lie perpetuated from. WAY too much water with a 2:1
I will concede maybe a ricemaker locks in more moisture, but I did a lot of experimenting before settling on a 1.25:1 ratio, and cannot imaging 3/4 cup is evaporating away every time

This week I spent a lot of time coordinating the small details of the board. Hardware, tools, cables, and daughterboards have all been finalized and are ready to order. Hoping to have proto v2 in hand in the coming weeks! Thank you everyone for your support on this project, and especially to those who are voting and contributing ideas in Discord.

...But in general if you are starting out I wouldn't reccomend SA because it's more an aquired taste, and for a lot of people it's too high up...
If you do like SA then absolutely go with signature plastics, the quality is very good.

This is actually better advice. SA is a very sculpted, very tall profile that I personally love. My spouse hates it and loves their XDA (flat, but textured) Space Cadet set. OEM/Cherry profile would feel more natural to what you are used to typing on (assuming you aren't using a flat/chiclet style keyboard).

This one on amazon actually looks not bad, it's $130 on sale right now, has all around heater coils including top.

Midea is a chinese brand, so no fvkvsh1ma rd1a7ion.  You nowha. Tp4 will buy this, and do teardown.

For decades I have been using a steamer like this one, and I get great rice, although perhaps not usually sticky enough for sushi.
