Post by: tp4tissue on Thu, 13 May 2021, 13:58:49
Why is installing printers still like pulling teeth in the year 2021..

click click, install, ufr2, ufr2 v4, wth is that, google, nothing. even canon doesn't know what v4 is.

Clikc click, install, can't find printer,  GDI, 2.4ghz only ? crap,  Turns on 2.4ghz, ok can't find printer.. GDI, go to printer, enter ssid manually, pass, Printer found.    Where is scan, Tp4 want scan,  google,  download separate scan utility, OMG,  ok,  clik clik , install,  scanner utility Can't find printer.. didn't have issues doing this with my HP printer, Win10 found and installed all that was needed for print and scan capabilities.

still use the same black and white laser printer. last time i checked last year they still make quality laser printers without the gimmicks, they're just a couple hundred bucks like they always were. i always just hook up my laptop to the printer when i need to print something.

Guess a decent typewriter doasnt seems like such a bad investment now does it.

And no installing or updates required. Guaranteed.

HP?
Probably HP.

How do you fix an HP printer or scanner? Throw it away and buy a Brother.
Unless they really need color often, I tell people buy a Brother B&W laser fax, super cheap to own and operate and last forever, if you need color it's actually cheaper to drive to a printing store or Walmart for the rare times you probably need it.

Your keyboard probably has more computing power than your printer.

They're hacking RGB software to mine crypto.

And with the risk of being accused of blasphemy around here: They can be more satisfying to type on than on a computer keyboard.

My Olympia Report Deluxe is more satisfying to type on then any beamspring board.

Only reason why I have my HP is due to a HP rep giving it to me along w/ 2 years of free ink - I'll use it until it dies and then I'll get a real Epson Photo printer or do more research into what else would be good to print photos larger than 8"x10" on the stock I prefer to use.

While not quite as bad, they're working on doing similar things with ink, like locking out remanufactured and clone cartridges.
Check the model before buying and never update firmware. The days of constant ink systems on Epson printers is quickly coming to an end, which was part of the draw to them.

What needs to happen is the open source 3d printer devs need to work backwards and design a 2d open source printer.

Paper craft needs to get a whole lot more popular, otherwise it's just the work printers.

I'll second Leslieann. Brother printers seem to be no (or at least less) BS than others. I've had the same HP printer for a long time, but it is always so much trouble that I finally stuck it in a corner and stole my mom's Brother printer. I don't understand why these devices need special software or complicated drivers just to function; it should be like plugging in a keyboard or mouse and just work. The only improvement over the printer I had 25 years ago is the new ones are quieter (and maybe resolution or something, idk).

They don't.

There are universal standards and drivers for printers and scanners, Windows used to use them and (shhhh) they still do.
The software is just vendor lock-in, you wouldn't want to have to learn a new program would you? You already have the software and spare ink, just buy another when this one breaks... I can't tell you how many times I've hacked Windows drivers from older printers/scanners to work on newer ones, they aren't significantly different.

Is TP4 scanning and printing money so that he can send us stimulus checks?

Normally, what they do is, they counterfeit $20s and $100s,  but they wash the $1 bills for the dye.

Tp4 would have to be the world's worst counterfeiter doing $1s, cuz it'd cost more to make..
