okay, so I just wanted to let you all know, I tried shipping everything last week, but the post office pretty much refused to mail all my packages at once. pretty ridiculous I know..  Anyways. I signed up for stamps.com, and my starter kit today (which came with a nice free scale and $40 worth or stamps! amazing!) and I'm working on getting them all ready. I don't have a printer though so I have to go to a friends house to print out the stamps. I don't have a car and its like 5 miles away, so I'm gonna have to ride a bike there. : (

But anywho, just wanted to fill you guys in. I haven't forgotten about it, and they aren't lost in the mail. Hang in there : P
Oh, and to the people who ordered other things from me, I dont wanna get into details right now, or make up excuses, but Im sorry for taking forever. Im gonna send your stuff along with these.

If you're just dropping them off it shouldn't really matter (if you do pre-paid postage). I could see that if it was international and you had custom forms to have the post office worker check/stamp

They have the right to NOT accept anything over 10-20 packages regardless if its international or domestic, also doesn't matter if it's pre-paid or not, some post office are anal and will force you to go to a USPS that falls under the bulk mailing category, I had this happened to me before, USPS = YMMV

It's like the same thing as printed postage they have the right to deny you if the date on the postage does not match the date you are dropping it off ie. you printed it today but something came up and went to go drop it off tomorrow, they can deny you depending on how anal they are once again.

Since LS already shipped the caps to reaper and reaper is going to send them out for us, we should eventually get what we ordered.  What is unfair is that we paid for shipping, and now that reaper has the goods, not only is he doing a favor for LS and all of us to get the caps shipped, reaper now is paying for shipping the caps to us?  Not to mention that LS somehow couldn't send them out himself? 

I would like to hear for LS what is causing all delay so we don't have to make judgment out of thin air.

please put down the pitchforks, people. i think LS has proven that he has a legitimate interest in this hobby, and pulling a fast one for such a small amount would guarantee his bannination from geekhack and other forums - effectively locking himself out of the community for good, which i just don't see happening.

it's entirely possible that he can or has paypalled the shipping costs to reaper. of course that's still conjecture but i think it's equally if not more likely...

I don't think people really want to contact his family or anything like that.  I don't really care as long as I get my caps, eventually. 

What irks me is, when you start a group buy, when you receive money from your buyers, you take on the responsibility to see it through, that means getting what people ordered in the group buy into the group buyers hands.    What is this chicken **** that you start something and then just give up when you run into some issue?  If you haven't thought it through what it takes to do a group buy, then don't start it.  If $3 is not enough for shipping, and I don't think it is,  just say it.  Not able to ship all the packages at once and then just give up seems kind of lame to me.

I ran into some trouble with the Lambda group buy because I had never shipped internationally before, and lost a bunch of money to currency conversion purchasing the keys from a UK based company. I had intended to give contributions to geekhack and deskthority but had to put that off after all the costs. I still intend to make a contribution to DT when finances allow, and already made one to GH. I'm still baffled how he collected money for things and the funds didn't get applied correctly. My guess is lack of experience and poor financial planning. I know when I run my next group buy I'm going to setup a separate account so I don't have to waste time trying to keep money in check, it will just be separate the entire time.

It wasn't that bad, I guess my point was I'm a *relatively* responsible adult and was able to handle a couple bumps in the road without issue. If Lethal Squirrel is a young adult without a car or a regular income then running a group buy can potentially be significantly more difficult.

That's the problem with these group buys.  I remember there was a user who was running a group buy in a different forum.  He got all the money, and paid for the item.  He used the shipping money because he had an 'emergency', so the items are all stuck in the warehouse. 

It seems like you guys are dealing with the same problem here.  I just would like LS to respond if possible, because it is getting worse each day when he does not respond.

Edit: I could be a little wrong though because he did front the money.  If he really wanted to fix the problem, he could have gone to the USPS to ship 5 packages... wait a few minutes, go back in line, and repeat the process.

Just an update on this, Lethal Squirrel paypal'd me tonight the shipping cost.  He's fixed everything that he could and stood by his words (he even paid me earlier than I expected).  Everyone got their keycaps then we're all good.
