Phantom tkl with underglow?
« on: Thu, 22 December 2016, 20:57:30 »
I know that phantom pcb does not have support for LED apart from the two led for caps and scroll lock.

Is there a way to add led under the switch?

I know GONS has support for them, but then I will loose the custom programmable controller.

If you want underglow instead of backlit caps, just install the LEDs upside down.

The phantom pcb does support in-switch led?

I could be wrong but I think it does, but you have to work for it.  Has pads, but not traced out from the controller.

No the Phantom PCB doesn't have in switch led anything, not even holes in the PCB.

The phantom only has caps lock and scroll lock and supports filco style notification LEDs.

The JD40 had traces and holes but not wired to controller.

Having said all that Google for backlit phantom and you'll find a mod done, I posted a link below in another post.

Never say never because some are crazy enough to mod about anything into a keyboard.

Thank you for making me decision clear. Gons it has to be then.

Again anything is possible depending on how crazy you want to go.

Be careful with GON he has a history of not fulfilling orders or taking many months to send parts.

But another answer to something you mentioned above about the GON board it should also be fully programmable as far as the keyboard layout goes but perhaps not as programmable as a phantom again all depending on what you want to do with it.

I do think some GON boards can be permanently modified to support TMK which would make it programmable like a phantom.

Thanks for the video link. It's too much work for me.
I have been on various post regarding GONS fullfilment issues. Most the delayed ones are the custom orders where he does the work of some kind. I don't plan to get anything done from him. Simple buy as is.
Though I am still looking for options. I have switch finalized. Gateron Brown.

Plus the overall design that I want.

And other custom tkl or full pcb that supports inswitch or below switch led???

You might also consider a winkeyless tkl it  should be fully programmable to a certain extent and offer some sort of backlighting options.

And if you are open to other layouts look into red scarf boards.

Just checked out red scarf. It's too much compact for my liking.

You can rig up WS2812B LEDs on the Phantom (I created the mod and support in QMK to control it).

If you don't want to sacrifice one of your status LEDs for it, you'll have to solder to a very small point on the Teensy PCB. Documentation is in the Phantom directory in the QMK GitHub.
