[IC] 40% mod kits
« on: Tue, 05 April 2016, 17:39:46 »
As the 40% form factor gains more momentum, I think it would be cool for KeyCap group buys to offer a consolidated 40% mod pack the provides support for the various 40% boards out there.  This would combine the buying power of all 40% users and make such a kit more viable.  I have been playing around with the various modifier sizes used between the different 40s out there and came up with a kit that would work on a uniform profile board (DSA, SA-R3, etc).  Profiled sets would take a bit more work.  Anyways, let me know what you think of this idea and any suggestions or improvements.

The Mod Kit Itself

This might support it already, what are the key sizes for that board?

Mmm, that would need two 2.25u keys and Shift/Backspace is 1.5u.

I'm in!  (possibly for 2!)  Great idea... I've been scrounging around since I got my planck.  And I'm looking at your Van, but don't like the keycaps set.

not all of the legends are perfect, but there are correct keycap sizes to cover the board

Yeah I'm not actually proposing a set here, more trying to solidify a set of modifiers that could be a child deal on all new keycap sets.  That way us 40%ers could utilize all these cool sets on our boards too!

It's an wonderful idea. If this gains momentum, I could finally buy a key set! Owning only a 40% has it's downsides - can't get any keysets without a bunch of "useless" keys.

The 40% keyboard user is still a super minority.  I think it makes more sense to look at what's in existing Tsangan and standard modifier sets and cutting down the 40% pack to the bare minimum.  It may make the cap set more expensive than some people want to pay, but it avoids fragmentation of sets and duplication of keys.  Set fragmentation really has been the GB killer lately.

I like this 40% kit. Skully dazed has done pretty well w/ the 40% kits he offers. I believe eventually complete 40% kits will become a standard. I really hope you get the chance to speak with Skullydazed soon.
