Bummed out that your Gateron clear caps aren't as, well, clear as abostudio caps? There's an inexpensive fix from the Plastic Modeling world. Oldpharts know it as 'Future'; a few years back it was rebranded as 'Pledge Floor Care with Future Shine'. What it is, is a liquid acrylic; dipping clear plastic parts in it (or airbrushing, or even handbrushing; the stuff self-levels) fills in tiny pits, scratches, and imperfections. The end result?

The left side is stock, the right side dipped once and let dry for 30 minutes. You could do two dips, giving at least four hours cure time (depending on temp and humidity) if you need to. I haven't noticed any catching or binding of the plunger; if you're concerned, a quick swipe around the plunger opening with a cotton or foam swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol will strip the coating. Best of all, it's cheap - it sells for $6/Qt in the US, which is more than enough for thousands of switch covers (or plastic models; I've used less than 10% of a bottle I bought in 2003), but if you know anyone who regularly builds plastic models, odds are they already have some you could mooch off of them borrow.

I really like these clear tops. Besides looking good, its easier to install 2x3x4 LEDs w/ SIP sockets. I used to cut the LEDs just under the notches, so they wouldn't sit loose. This way, installing the LEDs was a PITA! With these abostudio tops, its possible to cut the LEDs above the notches without having it move when seated.

They aren't as crystal clear as abostudio, but that can be fixed with the Pledge Future Shine. These are a lot better, as they are more flexible and fit better. The abostudio tops are more rigid and are prone to breaking a lot easier.
