Artisan CAD Files for various Profiles (need sourcing)
« on: Wed, 06 November 2019, 10:10:23 »
Hello, was wondering if anyone could offer some advice,

I'm thinking about getting into CAD Artisan creation, especially since I'm pretty good at Zbrush, however ive never made anything that has been 3d-printed before. I came accross this guy at clackkeys.com and discovered that he prints his finals using a 3d printer at a very high resolution and I'd like to try the same. My question relates to where I might get blank files of various keycap profiles from, so I can start working on building, sculpting, tinkering using them as a reliable template for printing down the line. I found this - https://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=77502.0  but the models from there do not include the underside switch groove (i.e no MX or Topre shaped hole - https://imgur.com/a/RAsy55E). Does anyone know where i might find CAD files with the switch grooves that also include the correct real world ratios i.e 1:1 for the purposes of printing?

I'm a very much a novice, so forgive me if there is an obvious answer to this.

Many thanks

You can find several keycaps models in webs such as https://www.thingiverse.com
Maybe you find problems converting the diferent formats between programs. You could need to use a bridge program such as blender or 3d max but if you check on the Internet you should find info about import/export.

I wish you good luck and hope to join the print club soon too. I want to print cases, plates, etc.
