Shrapnel's QFR Custom Cover Build Log!
« on: Mon, 16 September 2013, 12:55:41 »
Alright! So first off I want to thank Jixr for his awesome painting tips. http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=47959.0 Go check it out if you are new to painting covers!

 So to start off:

Using Jixr's tips as guidelines, I purchased 600, 1500, and 2000 grit sandpaper. Also, you can see that my first project was going to be painting my cover white.

Here's the beginning of the sanding with the 600 grit.

Skip a few steps (I'll make sure to document them with my next cover), and here we are at the end!

I really wanted to do a white case to show off Bunnylake's Miami keyset. I think it turned out great for my first attempt at painting!

I am currently working on another case right now, and it should be a banger! I will definitely post some pics as I go along this time! :)

Looks great dude, so does your lawn, mines covered in dog pee stains :'(
unless they have some unforeseeable downside (like they're actually made of cream cheese cunningly disguised as ABS)

Here's what I'm planning for cover #2. I'm planning on doing a two tone blue fade :D Hopefully the paints work out okay for me.

And as promised, here are pics of the cover after doing the initial 600 and 1500 grit sanding.

Wow, that looks like it is going to turn out really nicely. Have any plans on what color keycaps you are going to put on it?

Right now I have a plain white keycap set on the way for it. But I will continually look for some other nice combos :)

Thanks! Hoping it works out how I want it to!

Haha, maybe not BMW in my mind :p

So I think I'm mostly happy with it right now. I'll be doing the final sanding later today. I'll post some pics as well, and then I'll talk about some things I would have done differently.

Thanks guys... So I really need to follow up on the second case I started. I'll try and do that Sunday or Monday, but for a quick update I'll just say that I never completely finished it. I need to do some touch ups on it, but I think it came out well.
