Stuck on a color scheme for my Ducky.
« on: Fri, 31 January 2014, 20:38:44 »
I've been wanting to change my caps out forever, just don't know what color scheme to use.

This is what I've been entertaining lately. I like RGB modifiers.

You won't find many people here recommending WASD keycaps. They're made of thin ABS (a plastic that will show wear and shine after continued use) and are lower-quality than other keycap sets at similar price points. I don't love WASD's colors either; I don't think they compose well.

That's just, like, my opinion, man. Ultimately, it's all down to your personal preference.  :thumb:

What are some other alternatives? I'm new at this, obviously.

Here is a set of RGB modifiers which are dyesub PBT which is basically the best you can get.
http://www.originativeco.com/collections/keysets/products/bsp-rgb-set

As for the white and black keycaps, you can only buy full PBT sets for each colour (except for some possible rare exceptions in the classifieds) which could run you $50 a set.

Except that the BSP RGB set won't fit on a Ducky since they use 1.5 size. Instead you could get some GMK Cherry doubleshot RGB from EK... and for the rest of the keys I would suggest to grab an old Cherry G80/G81 like one of these or these. They also exist in the inverse, with black legends on white/beige keys but I didn't see any on ebay in my quick look. Check the classifieds here for them. Might as well start at the top and get the best.

You could try the ones from banggood if you dont mind waiting some time( my last order took around 20 days).

Who else other than WASD lets you modify the color of full set keycaps so that they're not all one color?  I would really appreciate the answer, especially if they come in PBT key caps.

pretty sure no one lets you customize like that.

most people are happy with 2 colors and are willing to buy two sets (some combination of complete or mods/alphas only)

If you want to go crazy with customizing your caps that's fine for WASD, the problem is a few things. For starters, the cap quality from there is just not great by any means. Additioanlly, you really don't need to have a ton of colors on your board for it to look nice, and in all honesty I think most WASD boards I see look ridiculous since people go overboard with the customization.

I've been wanting to change my caps out forever, just don't know what color scheme to use.

I recommend taking a look at the Keycap Color Scheme Archive for some ideas.

Does your mouse have a colour scheme? It'd look nice of you could match that.
