Thought For Future Key Cap Group Buys
« on: Fri, 18 December 2015, 16:34:07 »
I found myself going through 7bit's Round 5a wiki page and found and interesting item. He has a set of keys that include the SP color codes in the key caps.

HONEYB/COLORCODES Set

I thought this was a pretty cool idea. There are a lot of colors in the Round 5a series, so there's a lot of caps, but I think it'd be neat if two additional keys were included in future group buys with the codes on them. For example, just two Row 1 with each color represented. It's just text, so it would have a mold cost associated with it and you'd always know what colors were in your set.

What do you think? Is it something you'd pay extra for, or just something you'd like if it was included in the base set? Or, do you hate the idea?

It might be interesting but what benefit does this have over simply listing the color codes in the original GB page, like how Massdrop does it?

This way you only have to look at your caps and websites are constantly changing or can be hard to find the right info on.

And it gives you a physical representation of the colors without requiring you to buy the color rings from SP.  :thumb:

WHEN DID HE ADD THIS?!

Damn it, 7bit. Always adding s**t. My wallet can take only so much...
Or can it take more?

He also just added HHKB modifier kits, so I feel your pain.

Nice idea. It might also be helpful to include codes for the profile and type of plastic, although to include all this will require some small print.

I'd say it should be included in the base set. The proposal is for SP only, or in general.

Don't see why not for GMK too.

Also this should be in R3, as thats usually missing for 75% support

I think this would be a great idea.  The only cost would be the legend, which I believe is something like $25 per legend.  Totally doable.

I'm in ROUND5a. There are caps with sp color codes. How about caps with GMK color codes?

Since it's text, I didn't think there would be a legend cost, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, they have to cut a new mold for that text.  It isn't like typesetting.
